And when you think about this, at the Wishing Stars none of the characters except Puss refer to Death as a wolf/"lobo". They only ask "who is that? what is that?" So, they all probably saw something else of the same size or shape.

For that theory of saying Puss In Boots should already be dead from encountering Death. The characters from the Shrek franchise can still die from stuff, but it's a cartoon, and it doesn't lack any toon force, even though it's different compared to cartoon characters toon force from Looney Tunes, or Spongebob SquarePants. Shrek, Donkey, Fiona, and of course Puss In Boots has survived stuff that they could easily die from realistically, or broke the laws of physics in other ways like slowing time.🙎🏻‍♂️

one of the problems I see with the map theory is why would Puss's incarnations tell him to take the wish if the map was supposed to lead them away from the wish.

Perhaps the map was supposed to lead him to the place and time to reclaim his life. Perhaps he could only become '[our] favorite fearless he-ero' again by acknowledging how important other people can be in his life and how empowering it is to confidently face a situation you used to run from. Perhaps Puss really needed to learn to recover from his recent trauma, listen to and share his feelings and stand up to the one opponent that had previously completely shattered his confidence. Puss had to understand his REAL wish was not to has more lives. His REAL wish was to find the strength to overcome his current problems (fear of Death, fear of commitment, fear of letting people into his life, ...). The map did its job.

There are 2 different versions of the Big Bad Wolf. One is from Little Red Riding Hood, and the other is from Three Little Pigs

I read that Death was credited as 'The Wolf' in promotional materials, in order to throw viewers on false tracks, so as not to spoil the big reveal when they actually went to watch the movie. Crediting Death as The Wolf was deliberately done to make future viewers assume it would be The Big Bad Wolf, instead of 'Death, straight up'. Also, as robertanderson1805 said, some characters could very well share similar characteristics - or even names - despite being different. One such example is when when Puss throws a party in the opening of the movie : at one point, an arm with a hook for a hand is visible. However, it doesn't seem to belong to Captain James Hook, as it's the other arm that has a hook. Another instance is 'Jack'. Several characters share that name, despite having very little in common. In the first Puss In Boots movie, we see Jack from Jack And Jill - while, in the second movie, we see Jack from Little Jack Horner. So, even though Death and The Big Bad Wolf are completely different characters, I can clearly see why people would make the mistake of thinking they are one and the same.

I think people miss the rather simple fact that Puss didn't go to Shrek for help because Puss thought Death was just a random bounty hunter. That's a problem Puss feels he has to deal with, and losing to the bounty hunter is something he has to overcome. It wasn't until he was already near the wishing star that Puss figures out that he is Death, by which point it is too late to even get Shrek involved. Yes, while Death was pretty easy to figure out as being Death and not just a random bounty hunter to the audience, the movie was smart enough to make Puss not suspect the wolf was anything more than a low-level threat, hence not needing to involve Shrek for something so mundane.

Nah, the last one is BS... The wish is within the star and the star will grant the wish to whoever reaches the star with the map in hand and pronounces the incantation. The function of thr map is like a maze of onstacles and challenges that shift your perspective. If anyone passes through the whole thing snd reaches the star with the map and says the words, it will grant that wish. Ofherwise, the opening monologue is BS. Now, the map's function is to make the bearer of the map appreciate what they already have. And, I think that the map knew that Puss, Kitty and Perrito were a company so it tailored the map so that they wouldn't be able to do it without him. It then uses Perrito snd his understsnding of the world around him start bringing them closer together. Kitty begins warming up to Puss after the pocket full of posies and since we dont see animosity from her. She is beginning to see a possibility of trust. And we see Puss starting to like the company of Kitty and Perrito, so mich so thst in the cave of lost souls when they mock him for befriending a dog and rekindling his relationship with Kitty, he sees what his nature was bwck then and he no longer putsnso much value in the lives he wasted, showing that he is beginning to value what he has right at that moment. His wish chsnged because his oerspective changed. Same with Goldi. The map showed her that she has it so good, why would she wish for anything else? In the end, everyone got a satisfying payoff, even death got a payoff, IMO. Yeah, he resented not killing puss when he had a chance, but he also resoected Puss' resolve to live the last one out to the fullest. So, no, the wish is not within the map, its within the star, because otherwise, when Jack Horner was in the oricess of reading out the poem, you can see that the star was powering up. My only headscrstcher is why wasnt it when Puss was reciting the poem? 🤷‍♂️
