I watch this before sleep. Everyone and everything in this drama just makes me feel so relaxed except the first episodes which were kinda heavy but all worth it with Liu Yifei's acting. It is light, unforced and everyone is just so natural. The conversations between LX and LY on the romantic side of things are cute and funny in a way that I could imagine could happen in real life. It's not in your face and the teasing doesn't come off as something that is forced on you to believe that they should or would end up together. It leaves a space that it might actually just be as it is but gives you hope that they could be a couple later in the drama. Everyone just fits their roles like a glove. I enjoyed the intelligent conversations on family, the contrasting views of different generations and how there is still so much wisdom we can learn from the older generation and the countryside - that when life is stripped off everything, it is not tha difficult to figure out the things and people who matter. And oh , Dali is a dreammmmm! I have seen so many vlogs about Dali in the past and they are not lying - it is just beautiful. If I were to be given a chance to visit China, Dali is number on on my list!

This drama and Hi Venus have been my lifesaver while I struggle with grief of losing my dear mom 2 months ago. I skipped most of Ep 1 because I could not deal with even a fictional death of a loved one. I am searching for the purpose and meaning for the rest of my life as well and so wanted to just pack up and go on a similar journey to a beautiful and peaceful place. It has the soothing and healing I desperately need right now, and I am so thankful for it.

Up till now, probably the best slice of life drama I've seen in years coming from cdrama-land. Yes, the show is not plot heavy, but the character development is chef's kiss. You care for every single side character the story touches on. Everything happens so organically and nothing feels forced. Loving the journey so far.

I 100% agree with your definition about this drama. Each episode I have watched, I find myself smiling at some point. It is soul soothing to say the least and gives the viewer an insight into the ongoings of day to day life in a small village. In this crazy world we live in, I think we need to be reminded of the simple things that bring us joy in life, things like familiar traditions, family and friends, caring for community, and beautiful, calming scenery, and this drama certainly brings this all together to give one a "feel good" warmth. ❤ There's something about this drama that's almost therapeutic for sure. Well written and well presented.

This drama is like watching a Li Ziqi video in series form; both give you a soul calming and soothing feeling. It reminds me of an “old” British drama, The Darling Buds of May, that made Catherine Zeta Jones a household name in UK. It’s a refreshing change from the usual cliche plot driven drama with unnecessary complication from many C-dramas. I have enjoyed this drama tremendously so far. January 2023 saw many good contemporary C-dramas. Apart from this, there’s Flight To You, Three-Body, The Knockout (Punch Out), In Spite of The Strong Wind, Homesick (despite the short coming, still a good watch)

Li Xian is so adorable in this drama! I’ve only seen him in Go Go Squid and his acting seemed very stiff. Granted his character in that drama was supposed to be cold and all of. He seems so much more relaxed in this role and it’s been great!

this was my first Cdrama thanks to sm ppl on tik tok, I feel so lucky this drama healed my soul, the way you described it is on point, its comforting, warm and light like the morning coffee on your day off, everyone was so natural, the romance was not forced or childish I loved how adult they were about it, the village is piece of heaven it made me wanna pack and visit it, the OST is a chef's kiss. Ngl I had to speed sm parts where the dialogue was long (which is smth im not used to) and also the first episodes were a bit heavy I dont usually rewatch drama no matter how good they were but this one Ill watch it years later for sure

this is one of Avenue X's best reviews. She sure sums the whole thing up. Describing it as having an aromatic pot of coffee waiting for you in the morning... I watch it when I need to de-stress and un-wind. Obviously there are no explosive romance like the intense chemistry the female lead had with Chen Xiao. It is very soothing and I totally agree that the OSTs are sweet and delightful to the ears. We have both eye candies and ear candies in this drama. Never knew it can be so healing to have a grandma around too.

It allows the relationships to develop naturally without the use of cliches to bring them together. It also helps develop the side characters and makes them feel like people. Really love your accurate review of this drama. The most peaceful, relaxing, heartwarming drama I've ever seen. Just forget the stressful negative world we live in and let yourself be transported to a delightful little village that will calm and soothe your soul. With most dramas it's bad to watch before bedtime because you get keyed up but this drama just calms and relaxes you and makes you ready to slip away to dreamland. This is one to rewatch any time you need to destress. It's only the beginning of 2023 but honestly I can't imagine any other drama topping this one for the best of the year.

The pleasure of watching great direction at its best! I could watch it only for the long colorful landscape shooting! Finally, normal people talking and behaving like NORMAL people do, in real life. What a pleasure to watch such relatable heroes. The dialoges are smart, realistic, funny, often a pause has a meaning. Extra bonus: Bai people and their customs, their food and clothing, embroidery, decorations, so many colors, tastes, aromas, coming out of the screen straight to our face! Last but not least...my fav fairy, Liu Yifei, always in good quality productions (my only bitterness is the Love of Hypnosis with my other fav, Jing Boran, which will never air). Liu Yifei is not an outstanding actress, but she's like Keanu Reeves in female form. She s got that calm beauty, and that calmness is so in tune with the whole show. Plus, she's CONSTANTLY eating in each episode lol. Overall, chinese dramaland cant give us a mediocre show these days. Its either bad or TOO GOOD. Great drama. Just great.

I usually watch cdramas with altered playback but for Meet Yourself, I can watch it in a normal speed. The script just flows naturally and similar with others, it is indeed like an extended version of Liziqi's videos haha. It smells like baking bread.. warm and homey. The sceneries are amazing and what can I say with the leads? Their acting is so natural and their visuals is so pleasing to the eyes. Great great set of cast. I hope it won't go downhill.

I am enjoying this drama, a real change for Li Xian who has played stony-faced, emotionally distant men in his other roles (Tientsin Mystic I, Go Go Squid.) Here he plays a warm-hearted and sincere entrepreneur trying to revitalize his tiny hometown after leaving a successful career in Beijing. That tension between "the Chinese dream" of becoming financially well-off in a big city, getting married, buying a home, sending 1.2 perfect kids to prestigious schools, living comfortably - versus a quieter but hard rural life will resonate with many American viewers. And how can we not love a drama with two resident cats and a horse named Cutie Pie? These small details really make this drama shine.

i visited Lijiang in 2007 and was taking photographs of locals in triditonal clothings. they complained to me that many people take their pictures but nobody ever give them one. when in returned to Singapore, i developed them and sent them a couple of the images. they wrote back and invited me to visit their howetown. loved the weather and scenery there. i should go back.

Yes, the people and places are all visually stunning and the series is almost worth watching for that aspect alone. FWIW, I'm a somewhat newly minted fan of the gorgeous Liu Yifei (aka Crystal) since Mulan (2020) & A Dream of Splendor, and altogether adoring Fan Shuai Qi here in a modern role after her appearance in the recent New Life Begins. I also keep expecting to see Dianxi Xiaoge wander into the scene at any moment. I love the meandering pace and I feel like the writers have given the viewers the same opportunity for reflection as the characters in considering the relative value of our life choices. I wish you congratulations in advance for a well deserved 100k viewers!

I have been waiting for this drama since the drama was announced. The title is very unique, then once first preview came out, it felt super relaxing and is like a tourism ad. This is a life drama, the conversation are very soul soothing and makes you self reflect. All the characters in this drama is authentic and relatable. The leads' interaction are so natural and have great realistic banter instead of the typical dialogue. This is coupled with beautiful scenery and music. Overall it is a very relaxing and calming drama. It allows you to escape from fast paced world of daily grind. The side effect is: It makes me want to go on a holiday.

You are right, this drama really feels like a travel vlog and probably that’s why I’m enjoying it so much. It’s like watching liziqi videos on KZbin. It just gives a sense of peace. And the natural acting of all the casts adds a perfect touch. Sometimes I feel like we have really good actors in China but they need good director who can lead them and a good production team. That’s why some of the popular actors I feel like in some dramas they are good while in most other they are just blah and I feel like it really goes down to the director and production to bring the best in the actors. I hope they can produce more quality dramas like this. 👍🏻

It is the BEST - BEST - BEST DRAMA OF THE YEAR! Watching this is also like meeting or knowing myself more and reminiscing my old self. I love that the drama doesn't have any villain in a person form but it comes with life struggles. I really love it and you will get to reflect on yourself: what I really like, what I really wanted to do? Salute to the screenwriters because they really did a great job. It also reflects someone's life. I really cried when A-yao was telling about his memories about his grandparents because it reflects my own life; actually it was my life. Plus, the OSTs are all good; also making me reflect on my own self. I hope all the awards will be taken by this drama in all the awarding stage coz it really deserves all those accolades. For me this is 5 gold bars and 5 is the highest.👏👏👏

This drama also makes you feel relatable with at least one character, in my case is with Damai in terms of personality and what made me love this drama is that each character personality is well respected by the everyone, you don't see anybody trying to force their life perspective into someone else, just love it. You are right about the brain switch. I have been struggling with doing something for me and this drama helped me. I won't quite my job because I need money to achieve my simple life goals but I'll start doing what I have been procrastinating for a long time. And this drama for sure will help to change the ideology of what a rural China is like. I'm starting to plan my visit to China in a few years and Dali will be my number one stop.
