I watched Gone with the wind - first when I was a kid I didn't understand too lot - and the character of Ma is really like a mom to Scarlett . Don't understand why so many people think that this movie is racist while all the so called slaves are treated like members of Scarlett family

The way Hattie was treated in her career never not be disgusting. Especially how they didn’t let her go to the Gone with the Wind premiere with her fellow black cast mates and when they wouldn’t even let her sit with the other actors during the Oscar’s. She truly had a will of iron.

When I had surgery to remove a section of my small intestine due to a cancerous blockage, had stage 4 non hodgkin's lymphoma, I had a Af. American nurse who reminds me of Miss Hattie and my mom rolled into one person, she was calling me stubborn because I insisted on going out and having a cig, I know. I shouldn't have smoked during cancer treatment, but I'm still here baby. Anywho, she said "You get your little white butt back in bed and rest! You just had 7 inches of your intestine removed and you don't need to be doing that nasty crap!" I just said it's the last one I got and that I needed to get up and move around anyways, I get stir crazy when I'm in the hospital, especially after how many times I had been there while going through chemo and all that. I said something that made her laugh and she said to her co-worker that she liked me because I didn't hesitate to argue and I had a sarcastic retort and I came back with "And I love fiesty black chicks." she just started busting out laughing and high fived me and then gave me a hug before I left to go home and rest. I've seen her there a few times over the last couple years and she still tells her co-workers about that convo haha. Just had to share that, she reminded me of Hattie.

Hattie McDaniels was the strongest person in Gone With The Wind. IF I or Scarlett needed the strongest person in that time it would be Manny.In the book everyone respected Manny.Manny was loved by the whole family.Manny didn't take any it from anyone.I would want Manny to love and have Manny to love me. Manny was my hero.How could anyone think Manny was weak or any less than anyone else in the story.

In GWTW she was a slave, yet an authoritarian even to her owners, that was Mammy. Iconic role and actress. The movie wouldn't be the same without Mammy's character.

I got raised watching Gone With The Wind, making my love for movies, acting and writing burn. I'm Hispanic and my people suffered the same fate like African Americans and many other groups in USA and other countries and, eventhough Hattie's charactef was the usual black woman stereotype in G.W.W, I think she wad the strongest most beautiful angel ever and no amount of discrimination could take away her light and talented.❤

Now the WOKE want to bring the racism back from the other side!!! The left is stoking racial hatred again!!! It’s so sad that some people are falling for it. The KKK and the black panthers will be celebrating in the streets thanks to the democrats. To all the young folks, I say, search your history look it up. The Democrats were the ones that wanted to keep slaves. The Republicans were against it. Yes, oh yes, President Lincoln was a republican.

People cliticizing McDaniels roles as 'not progressive enough' not only still rings true today, but goes to show (not for the first time) that black Americans were bringing down other black Americas for non-approved behaviour (never mind the rampant racism against white people in the modern world) years before my time. Nowadays, black (or any non-white, non-white and/or female person) for not being woke enough. If I recall correctly, McDaniel's exact words were: "I would rather play a maid then be one." Mammy not only tried to give sound advice to the air-headed, selfish women of the plantation, but also did not put up with their nonsense and told them what to do when she needed to (this likely also applied when they were children). She even got away with telling off Mr. Kennedy. Finally, with her menial work (the role of a maid, butler, cleaner, cook, etc should be diminished by such terms anyway) she keep the plantation running. As far as stereotypes go, when it comes to black Americans, the mammy is far more positive than negative. People are so afraid to admit that stereotypes do have some basis in truth.
@sdlock83 Жыл бұрын
Exactly! She was definitely a strong, dignified, intelligent, and no-nonsense woman. I really don't get why they woke community are so against the portrayal and imagine of the mammy. Mammies showcased some of the greatest strengths of African-American women possess back then that are all but gone today. As a matter of fact, some of the greatest and just well-respected teachers I've had when I was in school fit the mammy archetype... smart, iron-willed, not-to-be-trifled-with (even school administrators are afraid of them), ingenious, devoted, motherly, and loving.

And so ..judge me not by the color of my skin but by the contents of my heart ….we were wrong then and now ….her talent is incalculable….but we were to stupid to accept her because of the color of her skin …..many of other races wished they had a quarter of her talent …..let’s not go back to those ugly days ….we are all of one race …the human race ….we are not born racist ..we are taught to be …let’s stop that …..including people of faith ….and so the republicans in many states are passing legislation that will ban teachers from teaching our true history….and that is not only wrong but immoral…..
