Theodore Postol is Professor of Science, Technology and National Security Policy in the Program in Science, Technology, and Society at MIT. He did his undergraduate work in physics and his graduate work in nuclear engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. After receiving his Ph.D., Dr. Postol joined the staff of Argonne National Laboratory, where he studied the microscopic dynamics and structure of liquids and disordered solids using neutron, x-ray and light scattering, along with computer molecular dynamics techniques. Subsequently he went to the Congressional Office of Technology Assessment to study methods of basing the MX Missile, and later worked as a scientific adviser to the Chief of Naval Operations. After leaving the Pentagon, Dr. Postol helped to build a program at Stanford University to train mid-career scientists to study developments in weapons technology of relevance to defense and arms control policy. In 1990 Dr. Postol was awarded the Leo Szilard Prize from the American Physical Society. In 1995 he received the Hilliard Roderick Prize from the American Association for the Advancement of Science and in 2001 he received the Norbert Wiener Award from Computer Professionals for Social Responsibility for uncovering numerous and important false claims about missile defenses.

It’s actually really good to hear from someone with Ukrainians roots to talk about Odessa and calling it as a Russian city. In fact for those who does not know Russian history Odessa was created by Cathrine the great by signing the document in 1794 to begin building city of Odessa and port. In 1900 residents of Odessa erected monument in her honor . Odessa was always Russian city and always will be. Nazis do not deserve to have this pearl.

We often overlook the perspective of Heraclitus of Ephesus (c. 500 BCE) regarding the significance of war: "War is the father of all and the king of all." Only the clear understanding of an imminent threat of complete destruction can compel people to act at the limits of their capabilities to survive. War introduces this threat, and as a result, it not only ensures survival but also drives progress in science and technology. Moreover, war unmistakably reveals heroes and exposes villains, thereby purifying and enhancing societal efficiency. The history of human achievement is, in essence, a history of wars. If wars were to cease, humanity would inevitably begin to decay and ultimately perish.

1) Zelensky was installed and is being handled by Britain’s MI-6 intelligence. He knows what his fate will be if he deviates from the script. 2) Control over Russia is the main goal of the Western financial cabal and the gung-ho neocon imperialists. 3) Ukraine is many things, but most important, it is the sharp end of the spear pointing toward Russia. That, above all, is why Ukraine is so important to the Western political and financial elites.

Another fantastic podcast Nima! Your guest really gave us an in depth understanding of current events with regard to Russia and the West, and put the various factors influencing policy initiatives, into proper context. Ted Postol really debunked all the nonsense and meritless rhetoric that Western leaders have been using to describe Russia, and why we must have an adversarial relationship with Russia. As Ted laid out in detail, the claims that Russia’s aim is to conquer the rest of Europe, once the Ukraine conflict is resolved, is absolutely absurd. Further, Mr.Postol also elaborated upon the dangers of the West continuing to provoke Russia, and ignore the Red Lines Russia has delineated for its own safety and security. As Ted pointed out, continuing on our current trajectory, the West may find itself in a hit war with Russia, that could have disastrous consequences globally for everyone! This is clearly not a path the West should continue to pursue. The high ranking officials in the U.S. Government, especially in the State Department, are clearly oblivious to the warning signs that President Putin and his Foreign Minister, keep enumerating to the West! Unfortunately, the people in Washington D.C. and Europe are ignoring all of this, and at our own peril by doing so. Clearly there is no one in positions of power in the U.S. or Europe, with few exceptions, that grasps just how serious the current state of affairs are between the Russians and the West. It is incomprehensible that the West could be ignorant of this, but by their reckless words and actions, this is indeed the case! Everything that Ted Postol elaborated upon in this enlightening interview, was accurate and insightful. We can only hope that someone in the U.S. or Europe wakes up to the realities currently confronting us, before things spiral out of control? The consequences of the latter could easily spell the end of civilization, an outcome none of us would want to manifest! Thank you Nima for inviting Mr. Postol on as a guest to your wonderful podcast! His responses to your many thought provoking questions, really gave us a thorough understanding of current events , and showed us possible solutions to resolve things peacefully. Let’s hope someone among our government leaders will take seriously what Ted Postol had to say here? You are doing an excellent job keeping us well informed about current events, please keep up the good work!

I am taken aback by the Theodore Postol’s disingenuous disclaimers that “I am just a physicist, a scientist…” when most of his statements were political and cultural as opposed to military or technical. His praise of Putin as a great strategist and innovative commander was astonishing. Likewise, his statement that the Russian soldiers are well-trained and well-equipped. That is exactly opposite of what I have heard and read. Many of the soldiers were taken from prisons and poorly trained. The statistics that I have seen do not support the Professor Postol’s claim that Russians have used their soldiers, armor, drones, and artillery more effectively than the Ukrainians. The failure of Russia to take Kiev in the first three months of Putin’s invasion is evidence of his incompetence or at least a strong argument against Putin’s competence. Postol’s claim that the Russians controlled the air over Ukraine is not credible even though Russian control of the air over Ukraine is something that would be expected, given Ukraine’s tiny air force. Certainly, the Russians did not control the air over the Black Sea. As I understand it, the Ukrainians successfully drove the Russian navy out of the Black Sea and reopened grain shipping from Southern Ukraine using drones. The Russians certainly could not protect their oil refineries against Ukrainian drone attacks. I respect Professor Postol’s knowledge of nuclear weapons and their consequences but he is blaming a bunch of non-experts in think tanks for their ignorance. But, I do not find his claims that the Russian soldiers had better communication than the Ukrainians to be credible. They were communicating with each other through the cell phones! I don’t believe his claims that more Ukrainian soldiers have died than Russians. The propaganda is such that we cannot trust reports from either side. On the other hand, I do agree with him that Russia’s end goal is not to invade the rest of Europe or even Western Ukraine. However, I disagree with him that Putin is justified in his invasion of Ukraine. Putin initially invaded Ukraine because he was trying to control the grain producing regions in Ukraine and to gain year-around southern access to the sea. He is willing to pay a very high price for this access, including deaths and disabling of over 400,000 Russian soldiers, a third of his military. I don’t know how many Russians of conscriptable age have left Russia but it must be over half a million people. He appeared unwilling to negotiate until he was winning.

I live in England and i ask a lot of people why do you hate Russia so much and they say they are a dictator country and then when i say to them but they are a doctor for their people and it's up to their people to do something and i ak them when did they come near their borders and threaten them they never have an answer but the hate them anyway so i say it's because they are all an educated and the all watch their news without asking any questions

@@harryflashman4542 Russia does not need Europe, it wants to have influence on the space of the USSR and partly the Russian Empire, and this is its historical right, and of course the Russians are worried about the Serbian brothers, because they are in an aggressive environment and the Serbs experienced from the West in the 90s-2000s what Russia is experiencing now, but Serbia is small in terms of population the country and it were always tyrannized by the Turks, the Austrians, the Germans. regarding Europe, Russia will be satisfied if Europe is an independent player from the United States, but of course we do not like the tyranny of the Brussels bureaucracy of the EU, We believe that nation-states should play a major role in Europe, not EU officials.

Kudos to that learned and distingished professor . It's a great pity that people at the top decision making positions , as he has enumerated , could be so ignorant about the Russians . That ignorance is responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians , not to mention the destruction of their cities . The same America that threatened to bomb Cuba if Soviet missiles were not withdrawn from that country would love to see nuclear weapons installed in Ukraine if that country joins NATO . Russia has a genuine case for those who understand American ontentions of surrounding Russia with bases . The CIA is now fomenting trouble in Georgia which may soon become another Ukraine .
