“All of a sudden, the whole area of the country has been invaded. 120,000 people had to be evacuated. They all talk. It is another chink in the dam.”
Putin is being “undermined” by his oligarchs as Ukraine “increases the tempo of effective strikes”, says former air vice-marshal and military analyst Sean Bell.

All this talk about Ukraine having to consider giving up some of their land is disgusting. The people of Vietnam and Afghanistan didn't toss in the towel. They fought hard and kicked out more powerful invaders. The people of Ukraine have that same courage and will overcome the illegal invasion and destruction of their country. The dithering, hand-wringing and waffle by the political elite of most NATO countries, does not inspire much confidence in that organisation's capacity to ever be able to defend Europe against invading armies.

Your analogy using Vietnam - and Afghanistan - does not "hold". The Americans and South Vietnamese lost the war in Vietnam, and the Communist army of the north flooded in - resulting in a Communist Vietnam. In Afghanistan ... the Russians gave up and left. (Hurrah!) BUT - the Americans, their allies and the part of the Afghan people that were fighting the Taliban also "lost" after Biden stuck with the date of American troop pullout.. set up by the illustrious Trump. The ultimate objective, and victory, will be for Ukraine to remain an independent state, free from an imperialist decrepit Russia. That is definitely achievable and i believe should be set in stone by allowing Ukraine to join Nato. But sacrificing a huge number of lives to re-take all the cities lost to Russia, which contain many Russian sympathisers who would then be impossible to integrate into Ukraine, is IMO, just not worth it.

Of course the Kursk incursion has worked. How many men have russia gathered there to meet the threat? Numbers vary between 30-60.000. Each of those men are one man that can not be sent to the Donbass. Same goes for every tank, artilleri piece, truck. Etc, etc. This also means that the limited troop regeneration that russia has to work with, must now be divided between these two fronts. Same goes for fuel, ammo, food. This is not an easy thing for russian logistics, that so heavily relies on an already catastrophically pushed, under maintained railway. To just stare at what is physically redistributed from one place to another gives a false impression of reality.

They should be running out of old equipment to refurbish next year and then they will have to rely on new stuff which is much harder to produce. What a pessimistic viewpoint!!! As a trained Military Leader, I can say the attack into Kursk was a Tet Offensive type gamble. I do think trying to reach the nuclear power plant was not wise. However, building a Ukrainian border along the Seym and Psel Rivers with several smaller river and lake networks in between, was an achievable Objective. GEN Syrskyi has to make sure it is accomplished. You do not start an Offensive Operation greater than your resources required to achieve the Objectives. Eastern Ukraine by contrast has few natural defense lines. If Ukraine does not have layers of Surovikin quality defense lines from Zaporizhzhia to Sloviansk, then shame on the 2ND Ukrainian Military Commander to do what is required.

I think Ukraine can do much better in this war if they do get those longer range weapons - the recent munitions storage hit in Russia demonstrates just that.

European supplies still important and relatively consistant. Especially from those countries threatened by Russia making any gains. Impressive destruction of russian weapon stores which must make an impact on logistical supply. Do ukraine really need other missile help? At the moment they seem to have an answer, small it may be but effective nonetheless.

Lets be logical here how much can 2 destroyed depots effect Russia? Barely. Its the same as with the refineries. It doesnt even worth strikign them if you cant do it regularly. And Ukraine cant do it, according to their own military maps. Because they make 1 strike, and they need the news circle to run it for about 3 weeks. That means the refinery is fixed even before they can make the next strike.

It's so frustrating to think that this horror could have been avoided with faster and greater response from the USA and Western Europe in the lead up to the invasion. Now we see tens of thousands dead, far more grievously wounded - all for the ego and pathology of one man. putin, if he does believe in god, will surely find out he's not entering whatever form of heaven that he thinks awaits.

Bell is improving his reputation by coming out and telling the truth before others are forced to. And that truth is that Ukraine is losing the war and the West has no money or weapons of significance to hand over. For example, there are queus of poor people now in Britain queuing for food at food banks while the British regime cannot even keep their elderly warm in winter.

"It is not as easy as it sounds to ramp up domestic production." I think he meant to say that it isn't easy for the Brits. But the Russians have been able to do it rather quickly, just two years. It's not that difficult, just requires competent and stable leadership and ad a strong economy. And of course large supplies of inexpensive fossil fuels, without which modern industrial production is impossible. And leaders selected for their ability rather than for their skin color or gender. Putin's Russia is a meritocracy. No DEI.
