Putin ready to end Ukraine war if Russia can keep land it now controls: report

Russian President Vladimir Putin will halt the war in Ukraine if Russia is allowed to keep the four regions it has taken control of, multiple key Kremlin sources say.
The oppressive dictator believes that any new substantial gains by Russia will require another major - and highly unpopular - mandatory draft, and that the Russian people can be sold on the idea that the Motherland has already taken back enough territory, Reuters said.
“Putin can fight for as long as it takes, but Putin is also ready for a cease-fire -- to freeze the war,” said a source, who has worked with the Russian leader and been privy to high-level Kremlin discussions.

Even if there is a ceasefire, I think for many years there will be problems unfortunately. But it might be wise for Ukraine to agree for a ceasefire to help their people. 2014 Anti-Russian actions plus the SouthEast Luhansk/Donetsk regions agitated everything; then this is what brought Russia into it in the first place.

Japan did not surrender to the USA even after the bombing; only after the nuclear bombs did they surrender. Current frontline is flexible. It may extend many kilometers from the border. Russia will keep on advancing if there is no meaningful negotiations in their terms. Ukraine should expedite their process if they are serious about ending the war. Putin already hinted that Zelensky is no longer the president so he has no authority in initiating the negotiation and signing the agreement. The Ukrainian parliament should expedite resolving the leadership issues and revising or revoking their laws that prohibit anyone from initiating peace negotiation with Russia. My hyperbolic hypothesis. Just saying.

This clip is misleading. Putin has never wanted Ukraine to not be a sovereign state -- in some form or another as it was never coherent as a republic -- so he is inviting parties to re-visit the Minsk talks which Kiev rejected without holding a referendum. The west's hysteria and narrative about brave Ukraine standing up to a bully does not correspond to facts and never did. The proof is in the content of Russia's 20+ requests to the UN and OSCE to tackle the Donbas anarchy which Kiev consistently failed to do. Although Poroshenko had plans in place with the AFU he was defeated in the rigged election of 2019 (not by very much and Lviv's votes had been shredded) then Zelenskyy became the beggar tyrant and slick PR man all over the rich world. Once he has gone there will be a Ukraine and peace but the Ukrainian people will have to work very hard to reach the standards of even Bulgaria. To provoke Russia without having coherent self defense capabilities killed 1/2 a million Ukrainians. Zelenskyy was a disaster but those who helped him (for their own gain mainly) have that same blood on their hands.
