It's not democrats vs. fascists, or truth vs. lies, or fact vs. fabrication, or scientists vs. paid shills of corrupt businesses, it's not shades of grey or murky facts, it's always either two equally valid teams fighting it out fairly or us vs. them. If it's the latter, then our guys can do no wrong and their guys are always wrong, regardless of facts. That's what it seems, at least, with few exceptions.

If our current government were to find the vision, the spine and the will to do something like that; great, I would support it, but it would have been the first time the government has ever shown such qualities. As for a peace deal, that is for the Ukrainians to decide. If they want to keep fighting, we should support them all the way. What strikes me as strange in these discussions is how the problem is always Ukraine, but never Russia. It's Zelensky who doesn't want to budge. It's Kyiv that doesn't want peace talks. But, dear geopolitical experts, Ukraine has never been the problem. All along it was Russia. Imagine that! It's Russia that comes to these negotiations and says - okay, give up Kyiv and Zelensky and let us occupy the whole of Ukraine - then maybe we'll talk. That's the problem, not Kyiv. Ukraine is fighting for its survival against an enemy that will never - at least, until Putin is alive - give up its maximalist goals. Robert says - none of them will be able to maintain the same level of fighting. Putin doesn't care. He'll turn the economy into wartime mode, he'll mobilize even more people, he'll continue pushing to the last soldier. All the West had to do was to take this war seriously and provide serious weapons from day 1. Not begrudgingly provide a small part of what Ukraine has been asking for, delivering it months later and then saying - oh, the counteroffensive is not so great. Of course it's not so great - Ukraine has to beg for the weapons it actually needs. And a lot of it is still not there!

One fundamental problem is the belief that Putin might use nuclear weapons. That belief is a problem because Putin… can’t use nukes and stay in power. I’m not even talking about a nuclear apocalypse or Moscow being blown up or anything like that. Polls in Russia, which show broad support of (or at least tolerance for) the war and for Putin… also show that a very strong majority of Russias say nukes shouldn’t be used in Ukraine. Couple this with the fact that India and China have called for the war to end. And China has specifically said nukes shouldn’t be used in Ukraine. Putin’s political position domestically AND internationally would unravel if he used a nuclear weapon… I don’t think a lot of people appreciate this.

The cutting off of this support would send a message to Taiwan, Philippines, and the many small Asian countries is that you will not be supported beyond what hurts. Ukraine went from a country predicted to loose in 3 days to a country genuinely holding Russia at bay. The fact is Russia loosing is a change in attitude. It will b hard and not sure if it would work...BUT they want their country back in full, including Crimea. He is just wrong on so many points. The media needs to stop indulging this nonsense that the West will decide for Ukraine what they should do. It's not our decision...it's the Ukrainian people who decide when to end this war. And without NATO troops on the ground, Zelensky has no way to get those lands back. Certainly not Crimea and the core regions of the Donbass but probably not a whole lot more from where they are now. The Russians have the manpower and resources to continue and now they have to since the annexed regions are Russian lands according to Russian law. They're now obligated to keep fighting to secure AT LEAST the annexed oblasts. But since the current intensity level is unsustainable, it'll probably turn into a somewhat frozen conflict like it was post-2014 while still technically continuing. There's way too much wishful thinking going around and determining policy. Be realistic.

I'm sure this Fox guy is very clever and very knowledgeable, but I really couldn't make sense of quite a lot of what he was saying, especially in the early part of the interview when he was talking about negotiations (if indeed that was what he was actually talking about). It seems to me as clear as daylight that Russia has to withdraw its forces from Ukraine and pay for the damage it has done. I'm by no means convinced that Ukraine can't and won't fight through into next year. It's by no means clear that Russia can/will want to do likewise. Frankly, anything short of regime change in Russia makes any "peace" meaningless. I can see outsiders insisting on an ambiguous outcome for Crimea to preserve Russian pride (e.g. complete demilitarization of Crimea - including an end to Russia's fleet in Sevastopol and the future of Crimea left to some sort of referendum in 20 years' time...), but that's just foolishness smacking of Munich.

In-depth analysis from every angle make the analysis circular. The basic truth is, if Russia gains any territory from Ukraine, this is not only a reward for aggression but an abdication of responsibility of the United Nations. If Ukraine does not win, the world looses. There is no alternative to a sovereign Ukraine. Or an alternative to a United Nations be found because at the centre of the United Nations is the Charter, and Russia was a founding member who breached every protocol.

@@firstnamerequiredlastnameo3473 Really? Russia has lived like an outlaw for 100 years. There is some history for you. You are justifying aggression and land seizure from a sovereign country. This is Russia pattern. Russia is in violation of the UN Charter and basic humanitarian laws. Putin is a criminal with an international arrest warrant for him. Bombing civilian infrastructure is a war crime. Russia, according to public knowledge, is a pariah. NATO has expanded because Russia wants to expand and regain an historical Empire. Wake up to reality. The Ottoman Empire rose up and then fell. The British Empire rose and then fell. That is the way of empire. Perhaps you should acquaint yourself with some historical facts, not make silly comments. Cast an eye toward Finland and Sweden. That is a direct consequence of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
