You probably grew up as a free citizen of a democratic country and had your granted human rights - I grew up in a communist dictatorship and was allowed to do what the commies let me do. It's hard for me to explain to you what it's like to live as a human being without human rights if you haven't experienced it and can't imagine it. Trust me, Putin's fear of poisoning is - compared to the everyday fear of a lawless citizen of a regime that can do absolutely anything - a complete trifle.

Millions of his subjects have to live as his regime forces them to live (or die - if we are talking about russian meat-waves attacks in Ukraine)...

I have heard of Putin's paranoia and his refusal to eat or drink in company, but it's hard to square that with the stories of his dining out (over 20 years ago) at restaurants owned by Yevgeny Prigozhin, the all-round criminal who went on to run the Wagner mercenary group. Perhaps that was before he settled on poisoning as a preferred means of political assassination. He was once called "Putin's chef."

What happens is the President sits down at the table, then when the food comes out, the United States Secret Service takes the food that was going to be given to the President and replaces it with the food that the US Secret Service made. They try to not make a big deal about it. There was a cookout 30 years ago in the United States by the one of the Senators and he complained that it would have been nice to have the President actually taste the stuff he made at the bar-B-que. They did not trust even a US senator.

The fact that Putin is blowing up key infrastructure in Ukraine with huge FAB1500 gps glide bombs shows just how hopeless the Russian Army are, there is no way that Putin doesn't want to inherit a well working Ukraine, if Ukraine surrender, he will rebuild all of this key infrastructure, this could be half a trillion dollar alone, but trying to do it without working power stations, water works and other civil engineering is really not in Putin's interest. Surely that makes him easier to target, it's a definite line to his mouth. Not sure that's the sane, rational, intelligent approach, but rather it's actual paranoid behaviour whereby he is acting like someone delusional despite the very plausible risk that someone might target him this way. In a way this adds to the risk, and demonstrates the lack of genuine rational and overriding paranoia; poisoning is a Russian tactic, it's a KGB tactic, these are the men perhaps most likely to poison him, and to do so in a way that is cunning enough to succeed. He is an old man who is sheltered and detached from reality, he is unable to be humble, and he is a prisoner of his own making. His is quite tragic tale of greed.
