I think Moldovans, Romanians, Poles, Estonians, Lithuanians and Latvians would be the first ones to welcome Ukraine in NATO and EU. And I also think we KNOW, that's the only way. As a Romanian, and only in my name, I can only say one thing. Thank you Ukraine for protecting the Eastern front for everyone. If it wasn't for Ukraine, it would have to be us. So thank you Ukraine for fighting for us. I am sincerely sorry we couldn't do more to help you in our common fight :(

Bravo! Well said. Sadly, Ukraine will have to wait for membership of NATO, until after they have agreed a final peace with Russia. Individual NATO countries can, of course, make their own alliances with Ukraine. Poland, for example, may find that they have a role to play in the final settlement of this war.

ukraine has to wait until hungary’s presidency of the EU ends next january (2025). and at that point ukraine will likely have to undergo a fairly intensive series of additional reforms vis-a-vis economic viability, democratic governance (elections are currently suspended), corruption (the chaos of war does not lend itself to rooting out a deep set culture of graft), etc. i’m not trying to be mr doom and gloom; but a factual read on the situation points to another few years’ wait before ukraine can even be eligible to accede to the eu. the political climates in france and germany atm don’t favor this happening either.

6:00 unfortunately this parallel does not work in this situation, the east German Republic did not have a Soviet Union de geminizing the whole area, I'm being careful with my words, but essentially moving any and all non-russians or Russian loving, out of the geographic area, and leaving an increasingly sovietized population. It is ethnic cleansing that we're talking about, those areas that Russia takes over will be treated like Crimea has been treated, where whatever Ukrainians stayed after being given sledgehammer hints to leave, they were drowned out by a massive influx of Russians given cheap new housing and other incentives to move to the area. This is already happening in the other occupied regions of Ukraine, there will be no reunification because there will be nobody left who identifies as Ukrainian in that geography. This is exactly what the Tzars and the Soviet Union did to the Rostov, Kuban, Voronezh, Belgorod regions during the last couple of centuries. As such anything that's been given away in any peace treaty will be forever gone, do not expect those lands ever to come back, because the people who live on it will be displaced

This is exactly what the good professor was saying too!

Biden has been lying all his life. "I graduated at the top of my law school class." (actually bottom half) I had nothing to do with my son Hunter's business dealings." (The emails on Hunter's laptop tell a completely different story.) Viktor Shulkin (Ukraine's chief prosecutor who was investigating Burisma) is corrupt and must be removed." (Actually the Biden family was taking millions of dollars from Burisma to get Joe to force Ukraine to take the heat off Burisma; Shulkin was blameless). "Trump paused Nazis in Charlottesville." (Even Snopes has termed that a lie; Trump denounced the Nazis, and only said that there were good people on both sides of the issue over the proposed removal of the statue of Robert E. Lee.)

But: Trump explicitly says he plans to bring all the Agencies, such as the CIA, the IRS, the FBI under his direct control, dammned any Constitution or Rule of Law, while the Supreme Court of the United States just provides the "legal" foundation for it through their verdict essentially granting him absolute immunity, enough immunity at least to achieve his purpose.
@RichardTaylor16307 күн бұрын
The Constitution has no provision for 'independent" agencies "such as the CIA" etc. Article II describes a unitary Executive Branch under the control of the elected President. We have Biden as President only because FBI and CIA officials, in violation of their oath of office, conspired with FB - Google - Twitter - ABC - CBS - NBC - NYT - WaPo - CNN to suppress the truth about the Hunter Biden laptop in the weeks leading up to the 2020 election. It's intolerable in a free republic for the spymasters to be plotting against the people's elected president, but that was what happened between 2016 and 2021. These plots were advanced with the connivance of Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama - but you are worried about TRUMP controlling 'all the Agencies"???
@DavidAllison-qs8wn7 күн бұрын
Bannon has said that their goal is 'to dismantle the American administrative state' They want to tear things down, not to build anything. They will shred the Constitution, the system of laws, the balance of powers. They want a dictatorship and they want total control. That's how they would 'make America great again'. @franceyneireland16335 күн бұрын
I believe Trump although he is unable to pull the US out of NATO without a vote by congress, he can prevent aid going to Ukraine. Also if Russia were to attack a NATO country, Article 5 of NATO each member can decide what and how much aid they provide. If Trump is elected other NATO countries should consider approaching US arms manufacturing companies to create arms manufacturing in their countries. If Trump is no longer selling arms to NATO countries they may be willing to start a branch in other NATO countries. There is also the danger he will tear up or ignore the defense pact/treaties with other non NATO countries such as Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Australia, New Zealand and Canada. Trumps actions and words appear as if he prefers to be allies with Russian North Korea and China otherwise he prefers to be an isolationist. Can the US get by with trade only with Russia, North Korean and China? Has Trump thought that thru this or does he plan in the future to invade US former allies along with Russia and China? When he was president after a meeting with Putin, when he demanded the interpreter to destroy notes and another meeting, Trumps starts talking about buying Greenland in 2018-2019. Then in April 2021 Putin filed a submission to extend a claim to the Arctic, all the way into Canadian and Greenland (Denmark) continental shelf and economic zone, as part of Russia's continental shelf.

@@Deathadder90, So the American taxpayer gets the bill for all of those arms deliveries. Do not think that the costs, materials, and tansporpation costs come out of nowhere and there is a defense boom where everyone benefits. We all pay, and some benefit. Further, if this war shows Russia to be almost defunct and into the 50's as a result of this war, then we will take the Russian contracts. That is our small, very small benefit.

If it is true that the Russians are not able to advance much, this spring, despite the lack of ammunition in Ukraine, Russia is once again moving towards a frozen conflict which after a generation will be an accepted fact. For the simple reason that Ukraine will not be able to recover all the occupied territory anytime soon without a military technological breakthrough, or without more direct assistance from NATO.

The political system in 🇬🇧 UK is rotten 😂😂😂😂😂
@raymondporter20946 күн бұрын
The political system in most countries might strike a liberal progressive as rotten, but it is STILL better in the UK than in most countries even at this sorry point. (1) The population has the right TODAY to vote for a new Government, and if there is a new Government it will take its position without violence. Does that happen everywhere (even in the USA - like after their last Presidential election)? (2) If the UK's position & system is so bad, it would be a surprise to find people who have travelled to safe countries in the EU (France with its "liberte, egalite, fraternite"), Netherlands, Belgium and even Sweden risking death to get to the UK. Surely they'd feel safer in a stable EU with its Human Rights protections & courts and the Commission looking after the interests of its citizens?

Lucas' idea that Crimea would be settled by a vote makes little sense. Either Russia, likely, or Ukraine will control Crimea for the vote to take place. If that is the Russians, which is most likely, I doubt the vote will be fair. Plus the Russians have removed people in Crimea who were there at the start of the war and brought in many Russians. Crimea will be decided by the nation that controls Crimea.
@joebish66297 күн бұрын
Crimea is Russian. The people of Crimea are Russian. The people of Crimea are the same as they were when the democratically elected Yanukovytch was overthrown by the US-backed coup in 2014. Crimea was only Ukrainian because of an administration technicality back in the 1950s. You're deluded if you think otherwise.

@@joebish6629 There was no coup in 2014. Check Wikipedia's article on Viktor Yanukovych the section on Removal from Presidency. Yanukovych was unanimously voted out of office, 328-0, in the Ukrainian Rada when he did not show up for work and could not be found. Crimea belongs to Ukraine. The Russian people there can become Ukrainian or move to Russia.
