He was spot on about the 'fallout' from firing off one of those things. Neither China nor India could justify to themselves use of the world's strongest weapon for the sake of one man's frustrated ambition to seize the nextdoor neighbor's land. It would be an end of free travel for all russians, an end to any goods or services from russia being purchased on the world market. They would be purposely isolated for a generation by everyone

I think one of Russias concerns regarding the use of nuclear weapons, especially soviet legacy missiles, is, like we saw earlier on, the grifting, skimming and corruption has left essential maintenance entirely lacking. I read a piece some time ago that estimated that only about a quarter of their nuclear arsenal would actually work, but would perhaps be a gamble as to WHICH quarter. That might just be relevant to strategic missiles though.

@@dartfather It's not just the Plutonium though. They also need Tritium which has a half-life of only 14 years. Couple this with the Russians using an untold number of weapons in their reactors and the rampant corruption which leads to poor reporting of actual assets, and I would imagine that even the estimate of 1400 active and ready warheads is way low. Macron clapped back that France had Nukes too and Putin backed off the Nuke talk... that is telling. Macron only has 290 nukes. If Putin really does have as many nukes as reported then a relatively minor nuclear power should not have rebutted him.
@dartfather
@dartfather Жыл бұрын
@@talyn3932 Because of the short life of tritium, it is not even on the table for disarmament. In fact, the US stopped using it. I am certain only few are made by any country out of tritium because it is expensive to replace it every few years. Russia has the largest stockpile of nuclear warheads in the world at 5977 as of 2022. They have deployed 1588.
@talyn3932
@talyn3932 Жыл бұрын
@@dartfather most nukes use Tritium as it boosts the yield. How does that take it off the table for disarming? In know the stats thrown about... I'm saying those stats are sketchy because so far Russia has shown that corruption rules the country. Most of their active units I doubt are actually ready. Better chance some oligarch pilfered their radioactives to put in a power plant but paid the bookkeeper to say they are still good.

Crime is very low and is very petty, maybe some stolen metal that bums sell for alcohol, some drug dealing. The police and judges don't tolerate criminals, the prisons here are very bad, the family have to bring basics , any food other than porridge has to be brought in by relatives. So any criminals that join Russia's army will be so unintelligent, they will only act as some type of police when Russia controls a town, they have no use as soldiers. Putin is on the ropes, unless he mobilises and forces more inteeligent Russans to train up and be officers, use equipment that involves some mathematical calculations

Difference of motivation, Ukraine has fully mobilized and are constantly throwing troops as cannon fodder if what we hear is true... While Russia has only utilized a portion of their military but were still making gains. Unless they fully utilize their air force to clear the skies or go for mass mobilization, leaving a small amount of troops to push into Ukraine is eventually gonna backfire worse than what has already happened. One correction, The Russian army was beaten twice in Chechnya in the open battlefield as well as in the cities. The second Chechian war, was a case of them finally recovering in the end of that war and then committing an act of unmitigated untrustworthy backstabbing by luring out the leadership of the Chechens and assassinating them as they were leaving the ceasefire talks that were asked for by the Russians under a truce flag. Having said that you cannot consider the chechnians of that war to be peers, despite them thoroughly embarrassing the Russian armed forces, to Russia. But apparently you can't consider Russia appear to Ukraine either

That's a relief to hear, that the use of a tactical nuke in Ukraine would turn China against Putin. However, Putin seems oblivious to the way others feel about his actions at times. Nuclear could be an exception on that though, because any advisor who went along with approving his use of them, would be in deep trouble with him if the consequences proved to be a disaster for Russia. The dissent in Russia could be enormous, too. And historically, that is one of Putin's greatest fears since the time he came to power, that the populace would turn against him.

There is a reason why the Soviet Union, nor any nuclear power, never launched a first strike (nuclear attack) since Word War 2, despite all of the Cold War fears that the Soviets would. And its because you can't launch a first strike without being annihilated in the second strike. I remember in the 80s when The Day After aired, and everyone hoped the Soviets would see the movie and learn the lesson. Probably not realizing the Soviets can be trusted to act in the best self-interests...which mutually assured destruction is clearly against... and that the Soviets knew this since the 60s, if not the 50s. -- How is it any different today? Even if Putin had the launch codes (he doesn't), or the ability to order a first strike by himself (he doesn't), even he would know the response is not going to be 'more sanctions'. -- The only way I could fathom Russia using a nuclear weapon in Ukraine, or against any enemy country, is the FSB had a foolproof plan to blame am ISIS terror cell, or rogue Chechen element, or claim the Ukrainians did it in a false-flag conspiracy to frame the Russians. -- But that would require a convincing story on how such an element got the nuclear weapon 'elsewhere', and eliminating everyone involved in the planning and execution. Whatever the case, Russia would need absolute plausible deniability. -- Here's my two cents, if there was really a way to use a nuclear weapon against an enemy without equal repercussions, Russia and China (and the US) would have figured it out a long time ago and did it already. All NATO must do is take out Moscow and 5 -6 other city's to take out all of Russia.... But Russia must take out city's all over the planet from USA , CANADA ,FRANCE UK. ALL OF EUROPE and as far away as , AUSTRALIA and so on and so on ... United Kingdom 225 warheads (submarine delivery systems new and up to date systems ) France 300 warheads (submarine delivery systems new and up to date systems ) United States 7,315 warheads (Mixed delivery systems new and up to date systems ) Russia 8,000 warheads (Mixed delivery systems old mostly from the soviet union times NOT up to date systems ) RUSSIA IS AT DISADVANTAGE !!! and they know it Putin's regime knows its and that is why they will not use nukes they will hint and shout about nukes but that's it !!

There isn't going to be a nuke....English reporters are just the worst in the world...even worse than CNN lol. 1st: It won't do anything to stop anything 2nd: The return strike would be more damaging to Russia and they would deplete their entire navy (Look at General Hodges comments on this) 3rd: Putlers orders wouldn't even be acted on as Russian people in charge of the nukes understand they don't want to suicide themselves 4th: Numerous countries would get directly involved in Ukraine even if just putting a defense force in major Ukraine cities and if attacked by Russia....speaks for itself. 5th: Even amongst enemies of the west it would be a point of no return, everyone is watching and a response would be mandatory or other states would see it as the west not responding and they would in turn use nukes in their enemies. 6th: Its not fkn happening these reporters from TR are just fkn idgits.

Russia still represents a very great threat to the Baltic States. NATO forces are very small in those 3 countries, and would not be able to stop a Russian invasion on the same scale as the invasion of Ukraine, especially if Belarus were used as a starting point for half the Russian force. The Baltic States would be temporarily occupied by Russia, and liberated at the end of the war.

@@timonsolus nope. It is impossible to do a blitz in this day and age. NATO would immediately strenghten its flank seeing any serious concentration. Also Russia cannot just jump nato, without Turkey starting attacking their Black Sea fleet. And the armies of baltic states are not that weak. He could target an Ukrainian city with a nuke. But Putin would also know, that it would have to trigger a military response from the civilized world probably headed by NATO. The coalition would have some clearly defined goals, likes establishing air superiority over westmost Russia and kicking Russia out of Ukraine with conventional means. Any further nukes from Russia would be a first strike. Detonating a tactical nuclear weapon in a non-city area would probably result in - not only the sanctions as of now, but a total stop of trading realtions with every civilized country - counting India and maybe even China - until Putin and the responsible parties were no longer in power
