Putin: Ukraine Would Have 'One Week Left' If West Cut Off Aid

Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday, October 5, that Ukraine would have a “week to live” if arms supplies from Western countries were to end the next day.
Putin made the remarks during an hours-long live-streamed press conference at the annual Valdai Discussion Club event in Sochi, Russia, while responding to a question from Mikhail Rostovsky, a long-time columnist for Russian state media outlets, about whether Putin would object to Ukraine joining the European Union.
Putin said he would not object, as the EU is an economic alliance and not a military alliance like NATO. He went on to say that neither Ukraine’s economy nor its military defenses could exist without foreign support.
“Imagine, if deliveries stop tomorrow, they would only have a week to live until the ammunition runs out,” Putin said, according to machine translations of a Kremlin-published transcript and an English translation voice-over on the Kremlin’s footage.

The difference between them is that for the US, Ukraine is not a key strategic interest as it isn’t a security concern for them. However it is a serious security interest for Russia and therefore Russia won’t back down, and is willing to fight a long war. Putin is betting the Americans will eventually get tired of aiding the Ukrainians (as it’s not a key interest) and will want to negotiate. Which is likely to happen, as there have been multiple pushes from US generals for this already, but Zelenskyy is unwilling to partake.

@@chancergordy So were the prices. I was born and raised in Ukraine. My eastern relatives (Lugansk) were often travelling to Moscow for work while western ones (Chernovtsi) went to Spain and Italy. Usually the jobs were: construction, security, cleaner, babysitter. Even today amidst war Ukrainian wages are technically higher than in Russia, but if you compare them to local prices - it's absolutely the other way around.

But the Ukraine was able to defend itself against Russia until they got Military aid. Russia is just a regional Power, as Obama said Back then and I guess Putin finally understands 😅

@@dcasteaux9181 Yeah, its cost Russia significantly more for that and those cost do not reflect the reality that the majority of the cost came from old equipment sitting in US warehouses so really was not an expense . The only real cost was the fuel the boat used to get it over to Ukraine.

Thev world will always be dependent on fossil energy to heat their houses etc. and Russia have plenty of it. The consumers in the West are the losers as they can no longer buy cheap gas/oil from Russia that seem to have all the aces.

Russias current oil reserve is listed at 80 BILLION barrels. The estimate of how long their reserves will last is 60 YEARS. Also keep in mind that Russia is twice the size of the US. So 'don't hold your breath'.
