From a military perspective the power grid is a vital target. Power plants are always part of the target package when planning an air war, even for Western powers. Without power trains can't deliver cargo, factories cant produce weapons, ports don't operate, the list goes on and on. It's part of modern war. Yes, it's bad for civilians, it makes their lives much tougher, especially in winter. I hate to sound callous, but it's just a fact.

Anyone who thinks Putin is going to actually use nukes just hasn't been paying attention for the last 3 years. As far as the landmines, sadly they are extremely useful in war, especially on defense. Ukraine needs to use every tool they can get their hands on.

Landmines are area denial weapons. The trick is using the correct kind that expire after a set time, and keep inventory and records of where they are placed. The old ones used in Vietnam and earlier created UXO.
