I live in St. John’s County (St. Augustine) and am CONSTANTLY getting calls from “realtors” wanting me to sell my home. I get calls on my home phone & cell phone & my husband gets them on his cell phone. I ask how they get my number & always get told it’s public record. When I signed up with my phone service, I requested unlisted numbers - only to be told at a later date that they do not offer the service. The whole nonsense of everyone’s personal information being readily available to any and all who want it has led to this type of infringement. Realtors do not respect a person’s privacy and flat out refuse to acknowledge DEMANDS to stop calling. I believe the realtor in this case should have insisted on verification of ownership before listing the property if she was approached as stated. We have bought and sold homes before this one, and EVERY TIME we had to show our identification AND the realtors visited us IN OUR HOME or introduced us to the potential sellers if we were buying. How did that not happen with this gentleman’s property? There needs to be more digging by the authorities before saying it was an error….. Just giving my opinion based on personal experience! J

The common metrics used for identification are grossly out dated. There 1000's of names that are so common you may find that some neighbors may the same names. There are only 366 different days you can be born on and the number years are limited also. A 9 digit social security number can be computer generated. Phone numbers a computer generated even when you tell them do not call me again. The old court house record keeping has not kept up with skill of the thieves. It is now necessary to extra steps to keep your accounts and property safe. Identity theft can come from any direction.
