People who don’t put carts back are lazy and evil and they put peoples cars at risk of being hit by one

You can tell if you’re in a bad area by how many carts aren’t in the cart return. The more carts around the parking lot, the worse the area is.

As I recall, people used to leave their carts at the curb and pull up to the front of the store to load their groceries.
@rossscarbro46028 сағат бұрын
When I was a teen in the 80’s I worked at a couple of grocery stores. I would bag the groceries and then do shifts of retrieving the carts from the lot. It’s not difficult and any low skilled, entry level worker can do it.
@Josh-do8pg9 сағат бұрын
Stores don't have to provide shopping carts. And in the past didn't.
@AlstarPalmer6 сағат бұрын
They didn’t until they figured out people would buy more stuff if they could carry more stuff. It’s all about maximizing profit. Bigger shopping carts. Pressure and customers to bring cards back. Now you have to scan and bag your groceries yourself as well.
@Josh-do8pgСағат бұрын
@@AlstarPalmerif someone is being paid to do those things (check, bag, carts and etc) their wage is baked into the cost of anything you buy from that store. So you are either paying someone to do it or doing it yourself. Nothing is free.

In economics, this dichotomy is called "The Seen versus The Unseen" or "What Is Seen and What Is Not Seen" (Frédéric Bastiat _Economic Sophisms_ p-1848). Jesse can see the business asking him to put the cart in the stall, but he can't see the higher prices he would have paid, had the business been forced to hire employees to exclusively retrieve empty carts. In other words, the business is offering its customers a choice: Would you rather pay slightly lower prices and put the cart in the stall, or pay sightly higher prices, and have dedicated parking lot attendants? It's clear, from market results, that customers would rather enjoy lower prices, and walk a few meters, on their own time, to secure the cart.

I went to a Spanish market, and the first thing I noticed in the parking lot was all the carts all over the place. I thought to myself, this looks like Mexico. Almost like there is no effort into keeping your stuff nice. I admit, what Jesse is saying is correct. There should be someone specifically for cart returns but its profits at all costs and now we the customer are left to put our carts back. I do it, but it’s because I know if I don’t, it’s going to be really junky and I don’t want my home town grocery store to be junky. And I’m half white

I certainly don't mind putting my carts back in a corral because too many places don't have enough people to bring them around and it leads to issues where carts can be hit by cars or roll and hit other cars causing damage. I used to have a grocery store when I was a kid where you would roll up and roll over a device soda ring in the grocery store and they put your groceries on a conveyor belt and you'd have a bad boy or girl had come out and put your bags in your trunk or your car for you. This is all free part of the service. I thought it was awesome and of course that was the volunteer. You didn't have to do that but they offered that service. Here we are. You know 40 years later and we're begging our own groceries. We're scanning our own groceries and it feels like we're doing everything ourselves. Even paying for bags now. And yet the price is of groceries has gone up. I get that inflation happens but if you get to pay less people and have more machines, do things and your customers do more of the work. Your prices should certainly not be going up very much. It's a scam

I mean it gives the employees something to do so the one kid gets paid by the hour to do it rather than get cut 45mins early because he has nothing to do.. let the big corporations pay the workers to get it

If they don't put them in the cart corral they leave them in a parking spot and then the next person can't get it into that parking spot without getting out and moving it. At least things are orderly if they put them in the cart Corral Plus in Phoenix when it's 110 115° outside and the cart guy has to go around a whole damn parking lot at Walmart to bring them all in, that boy can have a stroke out there because it's so hot.
