I could listen to this guy talk about building engines forever. Amazing stuff!

I bought my first project 944 on the hope your videos could give me hope for fixing it and I haven't been let down so far!

You make it seem so easy! Lol for someone with mechanical knowledge you just boosted my confidence in being able to rebuild my engine myself with this series on this engine. My only concern is using the correct parts for what I want

Dude you're a good mechanic but even good mechanics should read the service manual. You need to observe cam torque sequence and put silicone sealant beads in 6 spots under the valve cover gasket and also the half moon seal, otherwise you'll have oil leaks in less than a year. Theres also a special tool (cheap) to compress the cam chain tensioner..

I would definitely say invest into a M12 screwdriver. Will save you tons of of times

You forgot to apply sealant in the corners under head cover.
@GCS882 жыл бұрын
Youre supposed to put sealant on the corners of the valve cover gasket

Yes, make sure Cylinder 1 (and 4) is at TDC. The key way notch on the crank will be straight up.

When the cams are on their alignment marks and the number 1 piston is at TDC. There will be no interference and this is when we can safely install the cylinder head on the block. So, we want to immediately get the timing belt on the crankshaft sprocket and the cam Sprocket timed up?
@vsvenson2 жыл бұрын
Yes, that's right. With the cams at the alignment marks and the engine at TDC, there won't be any interference when you put it together, but make sure you put the belt on before you turn it over.

I assume the #1 piston is at tdc, correct?

Good Job, but you forgot to put the oil deflector. Are VVTs only for emissions purposes or do they give better performance?

very helpful , I have a mk2 gti and I am looking to swap 1.8t into it . how good is the 1.8t . is it better than the vr6 ??
@vsvenson4 жыл бұрын
I don't have experience with the VR6, so I don't really know.

Hi just replace a cam seal on my 1.8t. When I put it back together I have the timing marks lined up on the crank and the cam. It runs like the timing is off. Do you think one of my cams could have moved when changing out the seals?
@vsvenson4 жыл бұрын
Note that there are timing marks on the front and back of the gears (for a different application) - you might have put it on backwards, and now the timing is off.

An 8 valve 1.8T? I thought they all had 20 Valves...
@vsvenson4 жыл бұрын
It's 20 valves - I think, in my brain, I was talking about the 8 exhaust valves.

No, it’s me that’s blind...i can now clearly see the three lobes (per cylinder) on the intake side,... This is truly a German engineering marvel...or nightmare😂😂😂 Great video, as always, thanks!
