Putting my new Tingerdog to work, grabbing a bit of firewood.

Well the day started off not too bad, temps were on the plus side and I really wanted to try out my new toy so I loaded up the truck and hit the local firewood spot to see if this machine was going to be able to earn its keep.... and it did.
Now nobody reads the comments so this is the perfect place to be honest, I ended up with almost 2hrs of footage just pulling the two logs to the road, I ended up having to do some pushing and maneuvering in several spots thanks to old logs frozen into the ground that I eventually got sick of so I removed them with prejudice.
Ended up adjusting the throttle linkage after pulling out the first log as the throttle arm on the Honda engine is sticky and was only returning to about 90% closed so I was fighting the machine a bit as it was constantly trying to move even with the throttle released and the brake applied.... problem solved now tho 👍
Still trying to locate a battery that fits in the tiny little spot they built into the engine compartment but that’s the joy of living in a small town, maybe I’ll run to GP tomorrow and check Canadian Tire?...
.....anyway... Tinger Dog seems to be a great little work horse, lots of low end grunt and I ran out of traction long before running out of power when I was pulling the logs... should be a wicked little machine for recovering animals in hunting season and for hauling in remote camps. I like it 😁

Interesting! Looks like its got lots of torque!!! Not sure if you have seen those log skidder sleds other people have fabricated but that would make life easier! I think on Martin's Cabin he used an old wheelbarrow body and connected it to the SnowDog. That saw is really nice!!! Just cuts so easy with that log bar!! Good job on the rebuild! 👍

I was watching that video with the wheelbarrow just the other day 👍 I may build something similar in the future, thanks for watching 🙂

Maybe have a look into Explorer industries in Edmonton , They are distributors for Honda powered winch... They have a sorta like tree condom ... Large rubber cone that fits at front of tree , It works great for skidding out trees.... Thanks much for posting 👍👍

Yeah I was actually looking at those a while ago, I just don’t think I do enough of this to warrant the expense at the moment.... What I find works ok is to sharpen the end of the log I’m pulling like a pencil with my saw so it glides over or around the small green trees and tree roots instead of catching on the blunt end and stopping me. I miss my grapple skidder 😞

I've been thinking of getting one the last year, mostly for ice fishing and skidding rails.

Ice fishing is probably the #1 reason people buy them 👍 But as you see they can pull a log pretty good 😁 If I was doing much logging work with it I’d build some form of a pull behind arch to make things a little smoother.

@@PuskwaskaOutdoors yes, either a small arch and winch on skis, or wheels, and maybe a seat on top, or footpegs. Longer makes less maneuverable but ...

Kind of amazing that these things can pull that much weight. The machine doesn't weigh that much. What is top speed ya think? Maybe you said? My wife is watching a movie, so I have the sound turned down pretty low. I re-geared mine, maybe 10mph now? I'm guessing though, I really don't know. I really like the way you have it set in the truck. How do you load it with the handlebars folded? I have some ideas how to set up my truck for trapping and hauling this thing next year. I'm too late this year....

Top speed is roughly 30-40km per hour... think that translates to around 25 miles per hour? It also has a BIG comet 500 series clutch on it like something out of an older 440cc snowmobile so it has more advantage than the 30-40 series comet clutches... I think it weights 250lb’s roughly, and I spun that track on demand with the log tied to the machine... tons of power but not enough weight to really hurt itself. Loading is the same as unloading and I did film that but edited it out... when I load it I drive it up just past the balance point and shut it off then fold the handle bars and just push it in by hand... it’s really easy. 👍

would you feel comfortable going 10k into the bush? Reliable etc...? Very cool looking unit. Wonder how it compares to the husky? Not buying any russian made products now, for obvious reasons.

They are neat but sort of a pain to use in my area, we have mostly flat ground but a lot of creeks zig zag thru it and it was really difficult to cross them without shovelling a level trail, the machine is built to a fairly high level of quality and I wouldn’t have a second thought about taking it on longer trips however spare parts availability was always a concern…. I actually sold the machine over the winter and went back to running my Argo, the Argo is much better suited for what I do. I did look at the Husky originally but the Tinger was priced more attractively…. The best advice I can give regarding these machines is “simple is better”, watch some review videos from Russia or Europe and you’ll see most people actually using a track sled and not just trying to sell them opt for very basic units with manual start.

Honestly only put maybe 2-3hrs on it after making this video so I don’t want to say much…. Just waiting on some snow now to take it out camping for a few days and then I’ll make my opinion public 👍

They start at $3500 for a base model kit without reverse, sleds are around $270, a motor from princess auto around $300-$500ish.... or roughly 1/2-1/3 the cost of a new snowmobile.
Rustic logging… building trails and cable skidding.
