Review of the newest motorized sleds (motordog, snowdog) Tofalar. It is like a snowmobile, but much simpler and cheaper. Firstly in the world with an injection engine! The toughest tests including a crash test!

Here in sweden i was reseller and importer of another russian brand of "dogs" before and i noted that it was extremely hard to use it properly in other than flat terrain.. the slightest sideway angle for example if you drive on an open field with a slight banking angle and the dog will always strive to go downhill making it extremely physical to drive. Also due to solid suspension on both sides of the track it resulted in if for example you hit a treestump or a stone under the snow on one the right side of the machine it will turn directly left and there is nothing you can do from the drivers location to keep it from turning.. and if there is a tree to the left.. well.. you know.. This together with the regulations in sweden and europe that are much harder to cope for made me loose interest in this type of machines. BUT this video showed me some improvments for sure. Can you please tell me if you noticed any tendencies like i listed above on this machines?

I live in Minnesota and I would LOVE one of these!! Awesome! I love the Russian mentality to build a tough, affordable machine to do a job. In the US .......... it'd have to have built in child safety seats, backup cameras, turn signals, and cost 10 times as much and be half as durable.

I also had a Bolens Hus-ski and can see simularities in the two. The hus-ski could manouver very well in deep snow with the wooden cleats and angle iron for the ice. The Tofalar does not have this feature. With the Hus-ski I could put my shoulder against a tree and circle the tree. I find that this type of motorized sleds are more usefull in the woods then on an open lake or field. There is the snowmobile good for. I am inpressed with the test, however a test in the forest in deep snow should really tell if it is better than the Bolens Hus-ski. Is there an option to add the wooden cleats for deep snow traction?

These machines are very nice and useful. I’m not sure what’s considered new about them though? I know even 40-50 years ago we were using them in Wisconsin to snake pulpwood product out of the woods/swamp in places it was impractical to use the skidder. However advantage snowmobile for having a suspension for the rider.

Can't replace snowmobile what comes to riding experience and speed but I can see the simplicity of the design and benefits it brings. Definitely seems long life and low cost vehicle but hard to see any large scale use. It may be good for fishermen, but they are quite small target group.

One market it would reach is up North where they need work horses, if they can scale this up especially with the way it pulled it would be perfect for carrying 2,3 or even 4 trailers with logs tools etc
@teropiispala2576
@teropiispala2576 2 жыл бұрын
@@awsomegamer8277 it lacks weight for doing that. Disadvantage of pulling driver instead of carrying is quite big. Current showmobiles used for logging weights 300-400kg and they have more power. This one becomes very difficult to steer if the size is scaled up. These are simplier and cheaper machines with small engines. Can do small tasks but can’t see replacing current designs. These have been around for a long time and not done it yet.
