I jumped the full height of the jumps previously but this week it didn’t go so well. The air vest saved me from injury and I even cleared the fence👍🐴 The bobble even came off my helmet 😂

This looks like the mare I learned to ride on, back in 2006. Her name was Roxy and she was my favorite. Last saw her in Southern Maryland in 2009 but I heard she was sold. Probably not her (she’d be 23-27 at this point, give or take) but it made me smile. Miss that girl. There’s still teeth marks in my green pants from my first show, where she mistook them for grass and bit my leg!

Maybe that horse needs A LOT of contact and has an exaggerated response to hands which are not VERY still. Maybe she needed to squeeze more with her legs and keep the horses head straight with more sides contact. It's these types of unforgiving horses that teach us the most. Also, maybe long build ups are spooky. Probably cutting the distance and coming in at more of an angle will give the horse less time to decide if it wants to jump or not. All easier said than done. Thanks for sharing and reminding us all that it can happen anytime. Stay safe ppl. Purchase a good vest and keep on riding

I came of this weekend at full speed, the airbag did as was expected and basically I bounced along the ground.. In the mid flight fall I could hear/feel it to go off, which probably stopped me from freezing up and therefore has a double beneficial effect. I got back up and on again without problem. I can feel that I fell this morning but there is no major damage.. I can't Imagine not wearing one now.. Exactly one day before my wife and I bought our Airbags my wife's horse refused a very low jump and my wife was ejected, her back/side landed on the pole and she broke her rib. Now that was truly very unlucky.

I do try but it was a very quick fall so I didn’t have chance👍
@Jess._.Equine133 жыл бұрын
Also I’m not being rude at all but in some cases and in some types of falls you need to continue to hold the reins as the horse could (say your in an open field) bolt the reins come over there head they could trip and hurt them selves and say in this case it was kinda goos they still held the reins as if the horse May haw bolted and scared the other horse then it wouldn’t just be one person possibly getting hurt
@smurfettefreedom26503 жыл бұрын
@@Jess._.Equine13 - I always hold onto the reins. It tends to put me in a better position for landing on my feet or bum which is a lot safer. Also usually leads the horse to swing round and face me, rather than running off and me getting caught by flying back feet. I suppose everyone has their own reaction, but it has always worked well for me. In my fifties now and still alive after a lifetime of riding and the odd unexpected incident.

@niamhconway28863 жыл бұрын
If I’m going xc I would rather a small bang go off rather than, if I ever have a rotational fall, getting crushed. I’ve fallen off in one and it didn’t make a noise that I noticed I was just more focused on falling and my horse didn’t mind. Also, the comment about the palomino, it is obvious that it spooked once the girl hit the ground when the bang would have went off before then.

When you fall like that, let go of the horse, you hurt his mouth as you can see in the slow motion. You better use your arms to protect yourself. But not when he was falling and so she pulled the horses mouth and didn't protect herself. Its clear in the slow motion ...
