Ice just started doing this with swamp cypress (Taxodium Distichum), another tree that grows well in standing water, though it's fresh water only. I plan on eventually growing it as a permanent "bonsai" within my planted aquarium ecosystem. I might need to try it with mangroves in a future tank 😊

How's it going so far? I'm looking to do the same in a 72x72x30 paludarium I'm building

Just a FYI for mangroves, it's easier to buy the propagules. The reason why is that you can acclimate them into any water conditions you want. If you plant an established sapling into a different water you will shock it and it will die. It has to be acclimated over time so you won't shock them. I learned that the hard way, I don't have a tank but I just want the tree's for the tree's.

Yes that's a good point! These mangroves had already been acclimated to freshwater by the grower. A point I failed to mention in the video.

Those barbs are awesome fish

So, you can grow them in a tiny tank, like a 55 gallon? 😊😋

Even less

Hi how do you attach your mangrove at the back of the tank? 😀
@Riffwaters Жыл бұрын
Hi! I used airline suction cups, until the trees grew enough to root in the substrate. It worked okay; not the best. If I did it again, I would try rigid twist ties. Wrap them around the trees then hang a looped end over the tank rim.

I want to keep one in my tank now. Is there a special lighting requirement for Mangroves?
@Riffwaters2 жыл бұрын
Only that it's a strong light, preferably in the daylight color temp range. Don't need anything special. I use outdoor LED flood lights, hanging about 12" above the leaves.

Can you keep a Japanese maple in an aquarium
@louel92726 күн бұрын
Yes you can keep it. Keeping it alive however is another matter.

Where can I get these I can seem to find them:(

Ebay is the best place I've found. Lots of sellers there.

Depending on where you live you can collect the propagules at the right time of year. But be careful these trees are protected by law in Florida because they are so important.

Dont this things grow feet per year?

Maybe adult specimens do in natural conditions. But young specimens in aquaria grow VERY slowly.
