Steve - can't thank you enough! Was hoping you would do this. I did make a step-by-step list of taking things off and thought I'd follow it in reverse order when putting my bike back together. Never would have worked as clearly as your video portrays - your pointing out where all the nubbins go is a real life saver. You are a BMW guru!!

Congratulations Steve - best DIY video I’ve seen from anyone. Still glad I’ve got my airhead: removable seat & 35-litre tank without tools, no canbus or fuel pump, only one small screw in one small panel. Keep smiling behind bars🕊

You need to do this with a standard 1200 or 1250gs. The whole bodywork screws thing drives me crazy. Long screws, medium screws, short screws, short shoulder screws...argh! I even noticed some of the screws are flat on the tip, and others have a pointed tip. Maddening. German Engineering at its finest..."Why only use just one part when 37 will do?" 😵‍💫

Steve, thank you for these videos and all the work you put into them... just can't say that enough. You keep your good cheer even when you forget the carpet, and have to rewind everything... amazing. And the way you call out every screw... so helpful! One quick note on this video: when you get to the large side panels, you never state clearly that they require long, shoulderless, T25 screws. You do both panels, but don't state it as you do for all the other bits.... maybe you could add a note on the screen at that point in the video, just to be clear?? Thanks, mate!

As a toolmaker : Bmw screws if magnetic(ferrous) would rust unless they used a tool steel with alot of chromium in like en30b . its better to have fully stainless steel so everything stays rust free and stainless is very strong, like twice the rockwell of mild steel. Great content thanks. Look forward to having you work on my bike sometime. cheers steve

Try this, take a small piece of plastic film, such as from a plastic bag, lay it over the screw head. Press the driver into place forcing the plastic to fill the tiny space between the driver and the screw. This works makes a pressure fit that will hold the screw on the driver. If one layer of plastic film isn't enough, use 2 or 3.

Great video ... this one and the taking apart one! Question: The Milwaukee Fuel impact driver you use, how do you set the torque as the screws holding plastic bodywork on will be really low 2-4 Nm and things like luggage racks and crash bars will be 10x that! Does the impact driver have some kind of auto-torque or it is based on how long you hold the trigger (trial & error)?

I have a 2014 R1200GS. Here in the USA they use ethanol additive in the fuel. In turn it causes some of the gas tanks to swell a little making the tank cover have a gap on both sides of the tank cover. It will not lay flush. Have you got any suggestion on how to fix this problem other than replacing the 1250 dollar gas tank. Thanks.
