Thanks a lot. I'll be doing this soon to the front of my 2018 BMW R1200GS so I can replace the plastic fuel hose quick-disconnect fittings with steel-coated brass ones. Your identifying every screw by drive size, length, and shouldered/nonshouldered is very helpful to me.

Hi Steve, many respect and a big THANK YOU from The Netherlands. Since May this yeah I’m the happy owner of the R1250GS. Preparing the bike for winter (also earlier bikes) I dismantle as much as I can and clean wherever I can get too with a brush and cloth to remove all mud, sand and dust. Your video has helped me a lot in finding all the screws. Fill follow you and check all the vids that might come in handy. Again, THANK YOU!!!

Really interesting and many thanks for showing us whats involved in careful panel removal. So easy to bugger things up by brute force and ignorance so you've saved your viewers some hard earned cash me thinks! Nice easy to follow vid with great editing...

Hi Steve. You take the time to create such valuable videos, and based on the comments that you receive you may have gotten a feeling of how extremely valuable and helpful these videos are for someone like me, who is very interested in not just riding the bike, but also working on it or adding accessories. Without the content that you create, I would never dare to strip down my GS. So many many thanks, and I look forward to watching more videos from you. This is a great video! Safe riding.

I know this thread is 3 years old but it’s bloody excellent!! Huge thanks indeed from someone who would otherwise have a few spare at the end of a rebuild.

Great job. In my case, how to pull back the black perforated flare above the battery housing was a key. Though I still injured my finger prying out the little plastic door to the battery... Well well thank you sir!

Like the magnet on the wrist for impact tips. As I take screws off, I place in a numbered egg crate or two and line up the panels.

Such a good clip. I've pulled panels off my GS before and probably broken more stuff than I fixed. After watching this my confidence in taking the farings off has improved dramatically.

Further comment if I might. I took your advice and have stripped the bike down stopping at the side panels of the gas tank, which I will do tomorrow. Fairly straightforward following this video. I may decide to just lift the fuel tank rather than remove it as I am only running a pair of D3s (no additional lights, camera, or sound bomb) from the front. Thanks again. Very helpful.

That would have taken me way longer to figure out on my own. Special thanks for all the expert tips like removing the plastic panels by sliding rearward, or popping straight out, etc. Saving us lots of time and $ from making mistakes. Great work Steve.

I've really enjoyed this and it's been extremely helpful on my teardown and upcoming installation of my D4 bundle I bought from A Bike Thing. I hope you'll update some of your links. I know the Innov K2 is no longer but you have some other Innov products that replace it.

Great video mate. I'm adding 2 cameras, and a CarPlay system. So no tank removal, but I had a feeling that the screws would be different sizes, etc. I suspect you will be spending the afternoon in my garage while I put all the bits back in place. Cheers!

Really appreciated this video and time taken to put this up on here Fitting new Lone Rider Moto Armor so only taking beak and side panels off. Ended up with the dreaded 2 screws left. Used this video to identify where I’d missed them and which screw shouldered/unshouldered for which panel.

This is another excellent video of how to strip down a non-adventure GS, but I thought that I don't have to do all that to install a CanSmart, R3s and B6. I seem to recall a video by you of how to do that with minimal stripping down. Am I correct? I sure hope so. Please reply. Thanks.

I had a thought overnight Steve. Would it be possible to list the part numbers for the top hat plastic rivet and the common torx bolts used in the section below the video on both this and the GSA vids so if anyone looses a screw or damages the rivet during installation they at least know what part they need to get or even make a seperate short vid if that was easier/better? If you were able to say where you got them from and the cost that would help too though appreciate that might not be possible for commercial reasons. Cheers Ade

Hello. Thank you for this tutorial. It will happen happy, for a need to fix the nose of my GS. Since I need to repair it, which glue would you recommend to glue it back together (I got a small break) ? I'm asking, because on a previous bike, I've already used a glue which was totally ineffective. Thanks a lot in advance.

Brilliant video, just got my identical GS 1250 like yours , busy fitting my SW Motech pannier brackets and one of the t40 screws that hold the back footrest just won’t come off . Looks like the head is now damaged as the t40 chipped its teeth 🙈 Any tips on removing the screw ? Easy out ? Just worried the easy out snaps and then I’m screwed. By the way your videos make it look real easy.

Pretty much but there are a couple of differences. The 1200 use really tall shouldered screws on some of the panels.

This video, while useful, isn’t as useful as a printed guide. A document showing this same information could be printed and stored in the shop or on the bike making it immediately available when needed. You can appreciate that scrubbing thru a video on the side of the road or even in the shop is less than desirable. #justsayin
