I like how VR swordfighting games need to discover a way to make up for VR's inherent lack of physicality/feedback from attacks, but it does make me think that a really cool VR PVP game idea would be to emulate how Dune's shields work, in that you can only break through their full-body shield with a purposely slow strike, It'd definitely defeat the 'wagging' maneuver you see a lot in melee VR and it could have a lot of interesting depth in blocking/parrying/striking when you're actively trying to slow down your strikes without being deflected. Fun video dude, this channel has been a fun surprise since that Gmod multiplayer video.

You know, the thought of a game in this genre did cross my mind before, but I honestly never thought it would work. Shooting in VR works great, but melee combat in has always been rough, even in singleplayer games, just because there's no physicality to it. It's kinda obvious, but you're not really hitting someone, you're swinging at the air. The only feedback you get telling you that you hit someone is visual. In singleplayer games with melee weapons, the main source of that visual feedback is your opponent's body moving/ragdolling/reacting to the hit. You can't do that in PvP games though, because it would be VERY disorienting to the poor soul on the receiving end. So I was surprised to see that there are games out there that managed to bypass this! It's cool to see the clever mechanics that these games have implemented to make PvP melee in VR work, and also be fun and engaging in their own unique way. It's shame that almost no one plays them though.

I’ve played a shit ton of blade and sorcery and I honestly don’t think the tech is there yet for PVP. Between more common issues in video games like lag, ping, and hit reg, VR is still so new that not many people have it. On top of this, those that do have a VR system might own a controller or headset type that doesn’t track as well as a opponent (such as glove vs controllers). I’ve also noticed that my current VR (quest 2) takes a LOT of bandwidth to run if I’m hooking it up to my PC to play, especially if it’s not a power cord connection and the cloud(?) connection thing. As much as I want to fight Mount and Blade style I just don’t think the technology is able to make the experience enjoyable. I’d say we’d need to wait until gloves become standard, tracking becomes smoother and less prone to bugging out, and a better movement platform. I think maybe a full body tracking platform could turn VR sword fighting from a gimmick into a actual E-sport once it becomes affordable and a few more kinks are ironed out with VR as a whole. Full body tracking would also just make everything in VR easier and more immersive.

So hi mug here I love sword fighting games too! they are amazing and im actually rank diamond in mordhau yay! I have done hema for 1 year and sport fencing for 2 and when i got a vr i IMEDIATLY looked for the nearest vr sword fighting game and i had fun with blade and sorcery.. but the competitive aspect of it never.. worked, after a while fighting bots endlesly gets tiring so i looked for PVP sword fighting games and i found one! This might be goofy but hear me out Rec room sword fighting. The idea they made is fenomenal and works in vr flawlessly IN PAPER. wich is: Trail that swords leaves behinds kills, actual sword model blocks. This works perfectly in paper because both parties need good positioning and finesse like real life sword fighting the issue of this is. ITS Rec Room. Its a shitty engine and shitty physics and the lag is imeserauble.. We are only in the starting phases of vr and im very excited for the future but for sword fighting games the future is not looking too good.. I wish a comp player from RR sword fighting would make a Rec room sword fighting inspired game, same physics and everything but EXPAND on it and then we would have an amazing sucessful Sword fighting PVP vr game
