Heading out on an afternoon domestic widebody run from San Francisco to Denver, seated in First Class with a great view of engine no. 2. United's domestic-configuration 777s (this particular example was appropriately registered N777UA) feature the old flat-bed seats from before the Continental merger, in a 2-4-2 layout with alternating forward- and rear-facing rows. It's a bit of an odd configuration, but it felt quite luxurious for a two-hour flight, and I actually kind of enjoyed getting to face backwards while flying-it was a different experience, and I appreciated not having to crane my neck in order to see the wing and engine.
It was a beautiful sunny day in the Bay Area, and we were able to get in the air pretty quickly, by SFO standards. They used both forward doors to board this flight, so I used the first door, which felt pretty cool. After pushing back and starting up the engines, we taxied out to Runway 1L, pulled straight onto the runway, and after a brief pause, we were off. I really like the PW4000-112 engines on the 777s, they're not as common, and they make a unique low-pitched humming sound at idle and a nice, loud growl on takeoff. After takeoff, we turned right to continue climbing out of the area and head East towards our destination. The in-flight service was pretty good, and the flight crew were very friendly, but they were out of my meal selection for the lunch service, so I chose something from the Economy Class hot food menu instead, which wasn't too terrible.
Check out the landing in snowy Denver later that afternoon here: • Wintry Golden Hour: Un... .
My uncle was on this flight with me, too, and he filmed from the opposite side: • [FLIGHT TAKEOFF] Unite... .

Great video! The PW4000 is my favorite on the 777, I just love the slow rumbling startup, the idle hum, the "drop-spool" sound when power is applied, and the loud growl at takeoff power.

Good point but in MNL it's a different story because you need to be flying MNL-ICN OZ/KE and ANA MNL-NRT/HND B777-281/ER to get a PW4090 engine since MNL-BKK/SIN/HKG you get a Trent 800 PRB777-3F6/ER B777-306/ER KL CX B777-367/ER B777-3B5/ER and rare pre-2020 a DL777-232/LR that did a nonstop Eastern & Central Time zones US & Canada DTW/MSP-MNL JL B777-246/ER if sent are GE90 engines in or out of MNL

Yeah after nearly 30 years of service and a flawless safety record Pratts were the launch engine for the 777 and UAL was the launch airline.

Legit question, how can you tell if it's PW, RR, or GE from inside the plane?
@parinpatel5719

By looking at the overall engine shape. Also if you listen very closely, you can easily tell the type of engine from the sound it makes.

Usually the shape of the mark of the fan nose. GE & CFM has a short "G spiral", Rolls Royce has an extended spiral with 2 rows, and Pratt & Whitney has a short strip as on the video. Although this doesn't apply to some older planes like early 747, 757 & 767.
@EpicThe112

Another way to tell it is that 1 of them puts a vacuum cleaner sound on taxi PW4090 Trent 800 877 doesn't make a vaccuum cleaner sound GE90-94-115B silent but Max Growl on take off. TO OR from Manila Philippines you have PW4090 Manila to Korea PR GE90-115B GE90-94B Manila to Amsterdam Schipol. Trent 800 Manila to Singapore Hong Kong & Bangkok.

@@dy7296you are correct another way to see this if it's spinning counterclockwise Rolls Royce 🇬🇧 Clockwise GE/PW🇺🇲. On B777-200s with in Star Alliance network UA has both PW4090 & GE90-94B🇺🇲 RR Trent 800 SQ & TG🇹🇭 OS🇦🇹 GE90-94B OZ 🇰🇷 & NH🇯🇵 PW4090. from my home airport in the Asia Pacific region Manila gets Trent 800 BKK🇹🇭/SIN-MNL while ICN-MNL Asiana is PW4090 🇰🇷 NRT/HND-MNL PW4090 B777-281🇯🇵

No, it is the B777-200ER with PW4077 / 90 engines, if we look back the B777 was launched on the market in 1994 with Pratt & Whitney engines, after that in 1995 it was certified to equip General Electric GE90- 77 engines and in 1996 the Rolls-Royce Trent 800.
