True story. In Reno about 3 weeks ago along the far south hallway where you'd go to get your equipment weighed, I saw a lone woman trying to put her equipment in one of the lockers early afternoon, I offered to hold the locker open since its spring-loaded, and I when I got close enough to notice, I say "wow, are you Danielle McEwen?" It was. Nobody else was in that whole 50 yard hallway. I just should have gotten a picture. We bowled the same 8:30 doubles and singles squad later that day. Cool time at Nationals. I was the guy with the blue Nitro Circus hat. ;)

Hey I don't remember the announcers ever talking about how Mcewan (vs Poppler) went back to her old ball that she was using throughout the game except for the 8th frame. To tell you the truth IDK why she changed because she was throwing a good ball. I guess it doesn't matter @ this point since she won the match.....but i just thought it was interesting that a key factor like that was not mentioned. Good bowling ladies.

Real question here: why do they have different associations(PWBA and PBA)? There is no reason to separate them in bowling, they can compete with men easily.

I've often wondered this myself...since the average score for women is not far off the average mens....(i think the top few women avg 220's, most in the low 200's, where the majority of top men bowlers average in the 220's+). Id like to see them playing together myself. I believe in 2004 the PBA opened up to allowing women to compete in some/all of the competitions, but i dont know the details. I know in MOST sports, its just not realistic for a woman to compete with men. Women are VERY capable at many things if not almost all things men can do...however science is science. The best of the best men are taller, stronger, faster, etc than the average best of the best women. So the numbers just wouldnt even add up and women would generally never be at the top (like track, weight lifting, wrestling, football, soccer, etc).But non contact sports where form and consistency are dominant like Bowling, Id love to see men and women combine their stats.However it is true that men typically throw heavier balls and throw them faster...i know speed and power has a lot to do with striking out vs just closing a frame (in my experience).

Men have more power and rev rate in bowling. 80% of the time a guy will win. Every other sport has it the same way. It may look like they can compete, but when you consider the consistency they need to have throughout their career and the difference in power and rev rate, guys will win in almost every way

I agree with Eternal X. The men throw their balls at 17-21 MPH and the rev rates generally go from "low" of about 375 rpm to high at almost 550. ALL the women throw their balls slower than this, and the rev rate simply cannot compare. If their respective skill levels were exactly the same, they would get crushed. They look like they can compete, but not really. Can they beat the men? Sure, they can and they have, on rare occasions. But if you put the PBA and the PWBA together into one giant pool, the women would almost never win a title and ALL the women would rarely cash. Just think of it like golf. If a woman pro's drive off the tee is 175 yds and a male pro can do almost 300 yd, the woman would have to be much better and much more consistent to compete. It's just not as even a playing field as you might think.

Women are bowling men's events all the time...The only argument I always state is that their handicap in international events (roughly 8 pins/game avg) should be removed, and definitely for the stepladders (which the international events continue to allow them to keep) They whip ass all over the world, and the playing field with the new reactive equipment surfaces is definitely a great equalizer. Back with urethane, strength was an advantage, but with these ball surfaces, the balls do all the work in that category.

What a moronic statement.. Male bowlers impart way more speed and revolutions on the ball and have way higher strike percentages. Let the women bowl on the same sort of oil patterns as the men and they'd get slaughtered. Even in sports where power is totally irrelevant (snooker perhaps) the men still dominate. Hate to be the bearer of bad news but equality doesn't pertain to sports.

Watched the first game before league. Went to league and bowled like utter crap. Shot 20 pins below my average. Although i did shoot one 224 game, but with 8 effing strikes in that game and still only got 224. I really wish i could practice more to get ready for the college season

watching bernice, i think my timings just been off the past couple weeks since i havent been able to practice. I'm a 5 stepper and i start pushing my ball forward to start the swing during my first step and bernice doesn't start until she's pretty much into her second step. And i remember trying to fix that a long time ago. Hopefully i remember this on Monday so i dont embarass myself at our center's memorial day tourney
