I just can’t thank you enough for your lectures! Even though I’m a medical student from Russia, and the exams that we’re supposed to take here apparently differ from those you have in the US. Your videos really help me expand and organize my knowledge - by looking at things from a slightly different perspective.

Wanted to add how, if there is splitting of monozygotic twins past the time period of mono-mono twins, you get conjoined twins because the embryos do not fully divide.

I'm expecting triplets but this definitely still helped as there are two babies in one sac.

While superfecundation is certainly medically interesting (and really, everybody should watch what they enjoy as long as it's not hurting anybody) twins looking that different can definitely happen with the same parents. Especially if both of them have a mixed race background. Fraternal twins can look as different as any siblings and mixed race families have lots of differences in phenotypes. (And in at least one case the parents had a paternitiy tests done after having twins that looked very different, because people kept assuming different fathers and the father was the same for both kids.)

Amazing to have twins anyway! My old childhood’s dream was to be a mom of beautiful twins. When I met my husband we started planning our family and thinking about children. He even wanted to have three boys from one pregnancy. Madness but I supported him. When we were in one clinic working with severe cases of infertility we discussed this theme. We’ve been told it was impossible because of high risk. Now I really agree to have only one tiny sweet baby. I don’t ask for anything else

Fantastic series of video's, thank you. Isn't clamping the cord after delivery of the first twin only an issue if you are doing a delivery of MCDA twins? With DCDA twins they both have their own placental circulation, so could you do delayed cord clamping? In MCMA twins, if there is TTTS and you are delivering the donor twin first (likely preterm, so it would benefit from extra blood from delayed cord clamping) would delayed cord clamping be a possibility as the recipient twin will be polycythemic?

Africans, especially nigerians eat a lot of phytoestrogen rich foods. Phytoestrogens increase the chance of becoming pregnant and of having multiples. So because of their phytoestrogen rich diet, it totally makes sense that african americans would have more twins on average than native americans and any other race.

I think the high twinning rate is exclusive to Africans, not African Americans, but for all the reasons you listed (the typical African diet is very distinct from an American diet most African Americans consume which is why the two groups are not equivalent). I think Nigeria more specifically was actually surpassed in highest twin rate, not surprisingly by another west or central African country (Benin? Cameroon?)

@@folumb we were told by our teacher that it's actually just a specific tribe/ ethnicity over there with a super high twin preg. rate, so likely genetics involved
