@@DavidDusek I had the PXG 0311P irons which i have had for about 4 years and loved them. Moved to PXG from the Callaway epic pro irons which were also a lovely iron but the buttery feel from PXG is just something i will never go back from. The Gen 6 P is a couple of degrees stronger but even still i'm seeing some very nice gains and my dispersion is really dialled in after the fit. So mine are on order and should be with me next week i'm told.

@@DavidDusek hey! The fitting went great! I had Callaway Razr X irons-got them like 15ish years ago from my home country club pro shop (never got fitted-I’m 6’3 so the pro had them ordered a 1/2 inch longer.) However, after meeting with the PXG rep, he said due to my positioning and posture that standard length would work for me. And, boy did they! We messed with different heads and shafts, I ultimately got the 0311 Gen 6 XPs with the Mitsubishi graphite looking black shafts that are actually composite steel-nice weight to them and the best results. Gained 20 yards comp to my old 7 iron and the accuracy is insane!! Way tighter dispersion thus far on my range sessions. Can’t wait to get out on the course with them for the first time next week. They arrived when I was in the hospital out of nowhere for 4 days of course lol.

I was amazed at the difference that shaft made compared to the others we tried. The Elevate shafts gave me a few more yards but the MMT dispersion numbers were undeniable. Thanks for the gouge Dave. I’m a bit older now (54) and had both hips replaced, and some back issues…I don’t have strike issues for the most part, and prefer a smallerish clubhead…I’ve grown addicted to the nice, soft feel of a blade/MB. I currently play MP 221s. My 8,9, PW are perfectly fine, but the longer irons don’t get the height I like (swing speed with a 7 iron is about 80). I tried the Mizuno Hot Metal Pros, which I find a bit big for me, and they don’t get the ball that high…how is the ball flight with these? And do you think they could be a blended set? I was thinking either the P and XP or the P with the 0317 CBs split at the 7/8 iron…
@DavidDusek Жыл бұрын
Pete, As you lose clubhead speed, it gets harder to generate lift using long irons, so if you have back issues and hip replacements, I'm not surprised that you are struggling with that part of your bag. The 0311 GEN6 P and XP irons both have a very soft feel thanks to the internal polymer. They also have a very low center of gravity, so getting height is not as challenging. I think you wanted to create a blended set of XP long irons and P mid- and short irons, that can be done easily. The trick is that you and your fitter will need to tweak the bridge clubs, meaning you might wind up weakening the shortest XP iron and strengthening the loft of the first P iron so the gapping remains logical and consistent. You could go with 0311 GEN6 P and 0317 CB irons, but the transition will be more abrupt. You're going from a hollow-body iron to a solid metal iron. Obviously, the key will be hitting everything and seeing how they all perform for you. Best of luck in your search and I hope you'll subscribe to my channel. - DD

Will PXG ever make a single length iron set?

What didn't you talk about lofts?
@Rifleman0311 Жыл бұрын
Question? The Gen6 XP irons are stronger lofted than the GEN6 P irons. Some reviews are saying the XP will give a lower trajectory/ longer distance from the carry + roll. Launch monitors are also showing a low trajectory and much lower ball spins than the GEN6 P iron. Should I be worried about holding today's hard fast greens with the XP iron? Any truth to these reviews?
@DavidDusek Жыл бұрын
Excellent question. I had a chance to hit both GEN6 irons at PXG back in February and found the trajectory of the XP, even with stronger lofts, to be as high and possibly higher than the P because the heads are slightly larger and the center of gravity is lower. An iron's CG plays a big role in shot apex. The P irons generate slightly more spin because they are for players who might want more spin to shape shots. The typical XP player is probably just looking for more distance, height and forgiveness. However, to find out which irons is best for you, work with a fitter and get on a launch monitor. I hope that helps, and if you have not already, it would be great if you would subscribe to my channel. There's some very cool stuff coming, including videos and Shorts from the PGA Championship next week at Oak Hill. I'll be there all week. - DD
@zazhou Жыл бұрын
@@DavidDusek your findings are probably true for high swing speed players, but for slower swing speeds there will probably be lower trajectory and height.
@DavidDusek Жыл бұрын
Good point. For the slowest-swinging players, you're right. In those cases, when a golfer has a swing speed of around 70 mph or less, going with slightly higher lofts in order to increase height and carry distance can help the most. Some brands are starting to make max game-improvement irons shorter and with higher lofts to help golfers make solid contact more often and to make it easier to get the ball up. Once you go above 75 or 80 mph, the higher lofts tend to generate excessive spin, and that's when lower center of gravity locations become more beneficial.

I play off 10hc and thinking of either these in the P model or Titleist T100. How do they compare? I hate chunky clubs but in the other hand right now iron play is the worst part of my game.
@DavidDusek Жыл бұрын
Marcos, The Titleist T100 is a better-player’s iron. Jordan Spieth plays it. Max Homa has a couple in the bag. Will Zalatoris uses an older model T100. The best best way to learn if it would be right for you is to work with a custom fitter and a launch monitor to see how well you hit them, but if you’re a 10-handicap who by his own admission is not a strong iron player, you probably need something that is more forgiving. In the Titleist world that means a T200. You could also look at the PXG 0311 XP GEN6, TaylorMade P•790, Callaway Rogue ST Pro, Ping i525 and other better-player distance irons or compact game-improvement clubs. Thanks for the question and I hope you’ll subscribe to my channel.

I went to the fitting hoping NOT to buy. I wanted 10 more yards with no change of dispersion from my Gen4 P. Gen6 P irons w/ KBS Tour Lite had me carrying 170 w/ 1.44 smash factor. My golf iron divorce rate has been exeeding California's. If you TRY you will BUY. No doubt PXG's best irons. I wouldn't dare tell Mr. Parson's how to run his business but perhaps launching products every TWO years would roll back some of the resentment users are having. The two-year hype would generate major buzz also allowing those users to enjoy their "new car" smell a little longer. I bought the Gen6 P's. You will find me at the tips!
@DavidDusek Жыл бұрын
Brian, I hope that you enjoy your new irons. I think you speak for a lot of people when it comes to product cycles, but brands typically fall into cadences, and there is almost always a new game-improvement iron released every year. It's the biggest iron market. Brands always like to have a new driver out every year too. Titleist gets around this by releasing woods in one year and irons the next. Mizuno also releases MP irons one year and JPX irons the next, but Mizuno has started releasing woods more aggressively in recent years. Regardless, thanks for the comment and I hope that you will subscribe to my channel. Thanks, DD

@@suprand congrats, you will enjoy. One thing to note. When you get them to the range, use the same swing and tempo from the fitting. Then tinker with your evolving swing only after memorizing your "A" setting. I installed some grip master kidd grips (amazing) but noticed the sw change (6 grams); which slightly effected my timing. I then rented a bay and check my new gen6 numbers. I have noticed more confidence on those 165-185 yard par 3's. Enjoy your new sticks, mate!

I've played PXG 0211 full set and Gen 4 xp/xf full set...while I liked both sets and shot more often in the 70's with them as mid-handicap, they seem to be getting a little gimmicky and releasing stuff faster than ever before. I bought the gen 4's less than a year ago when gen 5 just came out and now here comes gen 6 a year later. PXG pricing is all over the place day to day and fluctuates constantly, and they don't hold their value because of that on the second-hand market. While I do believe in their product, it's getting more and more about marketing and sales and less about creating the best club out out there as Bob Parsons likes to claim they do. I'm thinking about switching back Titleist this year to get of the here today/gone tomorrow direction of PXG.
@DavidDusek Жыл бұрын
Ustulo, You have an interesting comment and take on PXG. The brand's pricing has certainly become more fluid. When the first PXG clubs arrived in 2013 and 2014, they were ultra-premium and that became part of the company's identity. In recent years, the prices have come down and we've seen some heavy discounting. To some people, maybe including you, that makes PXG clubs less appealing. However, you wrote, "...while I liked both sets and shot more often in the 70's with them as mid-handicap..." which leads me to think that you played better and shot lower scores with them. Isn't that the point? Are you motivated to change clubs and start considering other equipment because you don't like the marketing? If you are not getting the performance you want, I could understand the idea of making a change, but you seem to be playing better with the PXG stuff but thinking about changing because of better they hold their value better ... not because you'd score better with them. Regardless, thanks for sending me your comment and I hope you will consider subscribing to my channel. - DD
@greghurdle4021 Жыл бұрын
Interesting that you are going to change brands because they are releasing new and better clubs possibly every year because you find that gimmicky. Then will be switching brands to one of the major brands, in this case Titleist, who also release new models every year. That reasoning makes no sense.
@ddeboy002 Жыл бұрын
tried them. no better than the p790s.
@DavidDusek Жыл бұрын
Good comparison as the clubs are designed in the same way--both have a hollow-body construction, tungsten weights and an internal polymer (or foam) to soak up vibrations. A seven-club set of the PXG GEN6 will cost about $150-$200 more.
