It's not the open dark sea exclusively, I think. If I were to guess, also the deep, freezing, dark outer space? Surrounded by nothing but darkness, and strange, bizarre phenomenon we cannot even comprehend yet. Every direction leads to death. Fiery burning stars, planets with no land, blackholes that not even light can escape. Worse still, zero gravity and vacuum means flailing your arms about will not make you go anywhere. I think it's mainly the dark and uncertainty of your surrounding while knowing death is certain to come from any direction. I can't even shower with my eyes closed because of these thoughts in my head.

Say hello to our new support! :D A guy based off Jack the Ripper... let’s do some speculating. Fun fact: in Bilgewater most murderes are done by drowning their victims. This is to avoid them from coming back to life due to the magic from the shadow isles tainting the land. I assume this guy was thrown in the water to be drowned, but died as a black mist monster killed him instead. He came back to life and now (kind of like Kalista) seeks vengeance on the ones who betrayed him.
