Pyogenic Granuloma: History, Clinical and histological features (Pregnancy tumor), DD & Treatment

Pyogenic granuloma represents an exuberant CT proliferation to a known stimulus or injury. The term pyogenic granuloma is a misnomer in that it is not pus producing, and it does not represent granulomatous inflammation. Hormonal changes of pregnancy modify the gingival reparative response to injury, producing what was once called a "pregnancy tumor." Pyogenic granulomas as typically red, pedunculated or sessile and may range in size from a few millimeters to several centimeters. Microscopically, they are composed of lobular masses of hyperplastic granulation tissue. Clinically, this lesion is similar to peripheral giant cell granuloma, peripheral odontogenic or ossifying fibroma and rarely metastatic carcinoma. Pyogenic granulomas should be surgically excised along with removal of etiological factors

This was great. I’ve had them a few times and now I have one bigger than ever on my leg due to a bug bite that didn’t heal properly. My parents call it my cherry fruit gusher because it looks like a cherry flavored fruit gusher candy and it acts like one when it ruptures and spews blood. I almost bled to death when it ruptured the first time as it was a blood fountain out of my leg. Gross right?
