I am 65 years old. When I was a kid we would visit my aunt, uncle and cousins often. My aunt was a coffee drinker and the pyrex 9 cup percolator was her coffee pot. I remember being just tall enough to be eye level to the burner of the stove. When she made coffee as she did every time we visited, I was fascinated and mesmerized watching this pot do its magic. I was amazed how the blue flame created the stream of bubbles at the bottom of the pot that eventually rose up the pump creating coffee. Magic! Jump 35 years ...I am at a flea market and I see this coffee pot sitting on the gravel all by itself being ignored. I ran to get it and scooped it up. It was $20, and I couldn't have been happier. I would have gladly paid whatever the price was. I lived about an hour away and looked at that pot the whole time we were driving home. It was filthy from neglect, but in good shape; no chips, nicks or scratches. This had been a family's coffee pot. I wondered how many times it was perked before everyone started their busy days. What was its history that led me to discovering it that day? Thoughts and memories of Aunt Mary Anne and her coffee flooded my mind. When we got home I couldn’t get out of the car fast enough. After a serious cleaning, I was ready for some coffee. I filled the pot up, turned on the burner, and waited. I remembered all the times I watched my Aunt Mary Anne make coffee. I was still fascinated and mesmerized by the rising bubbles and distinct sound this percolator made as the aroma quickly filled the my kitchen. Amazing how those senses have the power to transport you to your childhood… I have been making coffee with that flea market Pyrex Flameware percolator for all these years. My Aunt is gone now but every time I make coffee I am a little kid in her kitchen watching magic before my eyes again. I toast my Aunt Mary Anne with the first cup in thanks for introducing me to this work of art. Thanks Aunt Mary Anne. I can’t wait until we are once again together sharing a magical cup of coffee...

♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️ I LOVE YOUR STORY 👏👏👏 AS A YOUNG PRESCHOOL CHILD, I REMEMBER MY MOTHER PERCOLATING COFFEE ☕️ IN HER PYREX 9-CUP ON A GAS STOVETOP, IT WAS AMAZING TO WATCH THE THE WATER BECOME COFFEE, THE WATER/COFFEE PERCOLATE, THE SOUND THE PERCOLATOR MADE, THE SMELL WAS DELICIOUS, AND HEARING MY DAD AND VISITORS BRAG ABOUT HOW DELICIOUS THE COFFEE MY MOTHER MADE WAS….. SO I AM NOW 62 AND I JUST PURCHASED A PYREX 9-CUP AND VERY EXCITED TO CLEAN & EXPERIMENT WITH IT, HAD NO IDEA I NEEDED A HEAT GRID TO PLACE UNDER THE PYREX PERCOLATOR IF USING AN ELECTRIC STOVE WITH COIL BURNERS ❗️ IT CAN CAUSE THE PYREX TO BURST 💥 AND OR SINGE THE COFFEE AFFECTING THIS DELICIOUS ELIXIR…SO I WILL BE EXPERIMENTING WITH DIFFERENT COFFEE, GRINDING MY OWN BEANS AND DECIDING HOW LONG TO PERCOLATE 5 OR 7-MINUTES ☕️ OH WHAT MEMORIES I HAD WATCHING MOM PERCOLATE COFFEE ☕️ EVERY MORNING AS A CHILD 😁♥️✔️ SO I CAN RELATE TO YOUR EXCITEMENT OF THE PYREX PERCOLATOR ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️

@bdianes, I'm so glad you get it! These percolator have stories and memories attached to them. I'll tell you what works for me. I have a 15 oz. coffee cup and I fill the pot with 3 of those mugs of water. I measure out 6T of beans and grind them coarsely. I put it on med heat (I have one of those diffusers) and wait. I know it takes some time to get going but oh so worth the wait. I monitor it the same hole time. As soon as the coffee in the bottom gets to where I can't see through it I set a timer for 14 minutes. I know that sounds a long time but the trick is to keep it low. I perk every couple is seconds is enough. I turn it down until a slow stream of bubbles is coming up. This is all to your preference of course, but the trick is to never let it boil. Low and slow ! You will for nd your niche and will have the best coffee too! Enjoy!!!

Hey bdianes! I have seen some people use pyrex without the heat grid and I shudder! A while back I bought a grinder. I'm ashamed to say I haven't used it yet but I will. Lovely story :)

Another great video! I have a 9 cup Pyrex percolator, but I have not tried it out yet. Mine came with both a small and large percolator basket. The bottoms and tops on my percolator baskets are all aluminum vs stainless steel. Thank you for making this video!

If you own the “glass-transparent” Pyrex Flameware Percolator which was aluminosilicate glass then you should follow the Pyrex advice for and always use what they called a “wire heat spreader grid” to keep the bottom of the glass pot from resting directly on the electric coil element. Remember: the large coil on an electric stove, set on the highest setting, can reach 1,472°F to 1,652°F. Neither borosilicate glass nor aluminosilicate glass should ever be sitting directly on such a cherry red-hot electric element. BUT: if your Pyrex pot is one of their later classic percolators made of Pyroceram- the NON-TRANSPARENT, “”SOLID-WHITE-MODELS”” you will-NOT need any sort of heat diffuser on an electric stove element even on high heat. Corning’s Pyroceram, they invented this GLASS CERAMIC MATERIAL which had such a fantastic low-co-efficient of thermal expansion it was used by NASA for the nose-cones of rockets. THE “HEAT GRID SPREADER” ALSO WORKS GREAT UNDER POTS, PANS, IT HELPS (( PREVENT )) SCORCHED FOOD, SINGED FOOD ✔️ AND IT WORKS GREAT UNDER CANNERS, PREVENTS-HOT-SPOTS ✔️ HOPE IT HELPS SOMEONE…

Love your videos! I run a Pyrex percolator twice a day, seven days a week, great workhorses! Anyways I actually have two models, the pre-WW2 blue glass 6 cup 7826 (With stainless spreader plate and basket bottom) and the newer 6 cup 7756 in a bi-weekly rotation, great machines

If you do use yours as heavy as I do mine, I recommend setting a time on Saturday’s or Sundays to do a boil clean with vinegar

@Ikura I like trying out vintage coffee makers too and I recently found a Corning Ware P-118 drip coffee maker and I can’t wait to try it out when it arrives. It works like Revere Ware Drip-o-Lator that you showed in an earlier video.

Lololol…when you said it was 5:45 in the morning, I pictured the face of “angry cat” on Gracie, almost I thought I heard a primal, low tone guttural growl🤣🤣 then I realized it was my tummy saying HEY JERK!! It’s TIME TO EAT🤣🤣 That is a interesting way of making a coffee filter pouch!! NO WAY I could do that on the daily, but..in a pinch, good to know!! Thanks for posting Mr.Prime!!

Just take a paper coffee filter, fold it in half 3 times and cut a small hole out of the bottom triangle. Unfold it, boom there you go fits right in the holder and slides over the basket stem

Love the coffee pot. Only one problem with clumsy me using it --- it is made of glass. I would bump it the wrong way and break it before too long.

I see you had a “top” aluminum piece - but I don’t see that you used it the next morning when you made coffee. The one I just bought at an estate sale is missing the top aluminum piece - do I even need it? Thanks!!

Good morning. Yes, you do need it 'IF' the coffee is loose and not encased by a filter. Or not if you don't mind some grinds in there :)
