@@EvillNooB because that would look bad on camera and place too much trust on himself for too long, if he did it this way he ensures his opponent chooses split because theres no point choosing steal because you think hes going to go steal no matter what, by saying youre going to go steal and then choosing split, you simplify the process while backing your opponent into a corner
@DrPonk2 жыл бұрын
@@EvillNooB Out of the kindness of his heart, basically, but also the whole gambit was just to remove the win condition for the other guy and force him into a split, as it would be the only viable option as a hopes of getting some of the money later on. By saying you're going to steal, you're telling the other person that they've already lost no matter what they choose. At that point it's just about manipulating them to pick the option more favorable for both of you, which is for them to split. You not only take away any possibility of the other person winning, but you can also then use that as leverage to ensure you both win, unless you're actually heartless and just keep it all anyway or the other person is incredibly spiteful and willing to take a guaranteed loss over maybe getting something later if you keep your word. Heads, I win, tails, you lose.

Last guy took the show’s theme of trust and manipulation and turned it completely on its head. He essentially gave the opponent a trust fall where he said “You either put all of your trust in me, or we both lose” by saying he’d steal, and then in the end he chose to choose split, putting his absolute trust in his opponent that they’d put their absolute trust in him. Actually poetic.
@zulubunsen90672 жыл бұрын
He doesn't choose Split because he trusts the other guy. He does it so he can make sure that the money isn't lost. He says he'll choose Steal while discussing to convince the other guy that he's not there to play againt him but against the game itself -- to put his trust into him, not the game. @SohakmetGameplay2 жыл бұрын
@Sam Lowe Him being a nice guy is overall irrelevant to the ordeal. It's like what OP said, the whole point is to force a split pick from the other person. From there you can choose your own without a problem and if you really are aiming to split the money with the other person, picking either choice as the one setting this up is the same, as with steal you can just split after the show. Him picking split on camera probably was more to show that the strategy really works.

Yeah, the whole thing of trying to convince your opponent you're going to pick split is pointless. If you manage to convince them, they could thing they could get money by stealing, and if you don't, why would they pick steal? Just to spite you? Picking steal because the other person might do so too is useless here because you're not better off. If instead they got a quarter of the amount each, then it would be closer to the prisoner's dilemma and probably more interesting.

My god, whilst i was watching i was thinking to myself "What if someone insisted on steal then decided to split after the show". lo and behold that was the strat that broke the show... however im disappointed that he backed down. in my opinion i would've gone through with it, done the steal, and given him the split after the show because of the precedent it sets, turning a game of deduction into a game of blind faith
@BOW4THECAMERA2 жыл бұрын
he didn't 'back down' per se, his strategy was to back the other guy into a corner of 100% picking split

I'm gonna be honest here, in the question of "Split or Steal?" I'd be more inclined to look at it contextually. Like if the prize pot is $12,000, that's nice, but in the grand scheme of game show prize pots, fairly low all things considered. Splitting would mean both parties leave with just $6,000, which is again, nice, but not that much money to win. The lower the prize pool, the more I'd be inclined to steal. Whereas with big pots like $40,000, $70,000, etc., I'd be more inclined to split since you're both still leaving with a bigger amount of money. That's like 20K, 35K for both parties in both examples, compared to something like 5 or 6K. Basically, lower prize pool = not that beneficial to both parties to split, just steal it. Higher prize pool = split, you're both getting something very substantial out of splitting even though the thought of stealing say, 50K, is tempting
@promethium-1452 жыл бұрын
That analysis is pretty interesting. I actually thought of it the other way around; if the prize is $100,000 wouldn't they want it all to themselves? But I actually think your analysis makes more sense from a rational perspective, whereas my angle is assuming maximum greed.

@promethium-1452 жыл бұрын
I don't know if that's harsh to the man in that situation, or the woman. Also, wasn't that the guy Pyro said became an incel? If so, I don't think that would be the right term; more like the guy is just angry because he was lied to, which is understandable, I guess.
@mattsterh77402 жыл бұрын
@@promethium-145 im just stating reality. that woman looks like a succubus and the man is an old man. seriously if you saw them in public, you would think thats her dad or shes gold digging. also pyro said a young blonde guy turned into an incel. hes from a different clip.
@promethium-1452 жыл бұрын
@@mattsterh7740 Oh, I wasn't sure which clips you were referring to, cuz I was too lazy to look at the time stamps. That's my bad lmao. And yeah, I think it's interesting how one of the participants seemed sadistically happy about stealing against the other guy. Some people are, as you put it, succubuses. I've had some experience with those types of people, and it scarred me for many months.
