As an arsenal fan I have to say Mainoo from the small amount of games ive seen him in has a high footballing IQ for this age and will no doubt be a baller as a 8 going forward . He has great ball carrying and passing ability and he can dictate dictate the tempo of the game knows when to slow things down and retain the ball or go forward and creates scoring chances for his teammates. He has great vision and fairly precise distribution.On a defensive contributions level he is timely with interceptions and tackles. His adaptability to different positions is also on a ridiculous level and has bags of agility in tight half spaces as well as amazing composure for this age. I cant see him failing at united he seems to be getting better and better in every game I see him in and doesn't shy away in difficult games and big games . United just need a certified 6 really like Amadou Onana which I hope arsenal can get.

Been waiting for this one! I think the main reason why he's not the best yet at progressive passes as others is due to the fact that MU lacks technical players to open up, receive and hold the ball, most of the time they hold possession for 5-10 max minutes then struggle to get the ball out of opposition team, can't even have 60% possession against teams like Fulham, Everton. Of course I'm not saying he's capable to compete with players like Rodri, De Jong yet, he's too young but he got potential to surpass them if he keeps improving, very talented player.

I dislike such comments by Ten Hag about trying to pace the kid to exert himself harder. He shouldn't try to make him a work horse at 18; let him grow to become one of the greats. I hope INEOS will steer Mainoo in the right direction so we can watch his amazing potential and let him develop into a true elite at his own pace (and he is already at an incredible level considering his age). Instead of trying to make him immediately be more, we should just be happy that we already have a player who can already contribute so consistently and at such a level. And as such, I disagree with comments like he should try to cement his identity on the pitch when, to me, it looks like there's still plenty more natural growth to be done. A Danish saying says, When you tighten the string, you strangle the child. Regardless, thank you yet again for a very intelligent and well-delivered analysis. I look forward to more!

Great video. Mainoo is probably the most intelligent 18 year old I've ever seen. His technique, strength, and tackling added to that makes him a great talent. My biggest problem with him currently is his completely lack of defensive awareness. Being a United fan, we've conceded a few goals from him letting players run past him too easily. I never blame him for it as he's 18 and he's just come from playing a more advanced role in the academy, so I put it down to inexperience, but it is a massive negative to his game. I think his long shots will improve with time. Pirlo never had the most power but was unbelievably good from range. His accuracy and technique was just such perfection that he could pass the ball into the corners from anywhere he was on the pitch. Granted, he still had a lot more power than Mainoo does, and Mainoo will never be THAT good from range, but with enough practice, I do think he has the technique to be solid from range without needing too much power. I agree fully with the point about him potentially struggling to find his best position. If he was to play as a proper DM, I think he'd need to be coming in as a backup to someone more defensively capable, rather than starting already. He's definitely not a 10 either. I think he'd be best in a double pivot as the more advanced of the two, or as an 8. Hopefully he finds a better midfield partner than Casemiro, who doesn't cover for him very well imo, and he can keep improving. I'm excited to see how his future goes.

Stop making predictions based on stats for a young player like Mainoo. You have not seen him play as a 10? He was actually a striker in his early academy days. I really like your analysis. Always grounded. Unlike these other youtubers who always think players are either perfect or trash. I think Mainoo’s main strength is his footballing iq. Everything a footballer does starts from the mind. He rarely gives the ball away because he has awareness, and already knows what to do BEFORE he gets the ball. This strength is also hard to teach. Look at garnacho and rashford. Doesnt seem like they will ever develop respectable iq. But mainoo has it at such a young age. Many other things can be taught/developed. Brains a but harder. If i were coaching him i’d have him further up the field and put two dogs behind him as cover, this way he can focus on the technical side of things, the physicality will come overtime naturally, and even if it doesn’t, his composure, technique and reading of the game will make up for it. Hyper-focusing on physicality is what always holds back English talent on the world stage.

On the eye he has everything in tight positions, very much an eye test player right now. I noticed his lack of athleticism very early and questioned if him and Casemiro would work, and it's proven that with Casemiro's legs looking like they've gone, the 2 of them can struggle when covering large distances. When you add that to the tactics ETH uses, the two of them struggle even more and this makes the Mainoo stats look very average in certain aspects and when watching him he can get exposed.

As people watch this I hope they keep in mind that this boy is only 18 lol coz he looks so good he can only be compared to the good and more established players like the ones mentioned in comparison statistically here, he will develop most if not all those attributes hes still not yet developed, we are genuinely witnessing a special talent and his ceiling is so so high

I would play Kobbie as the Martin Ordigard in Arsenal. I think he could be a great number 10 in a possession based team because of his control and ability to keep the ball

we need a video on wataru Endo. the way he gave the businness to Rodri and KDB, we need an explanation.

all the points made in this video were amplified by his performance after the FA cup game. It's like he's never afraid to lose the ball and he has the composure, the reflexes and technicality to back that "arrogance" up. And he's only 18. Generational prospect.

looks a good player, i get why utd are excited about producing youth players again. hopefully he's sponging the best bits from the older guys around him, and he grows into his body and becomes more dominant. reminds me a bit of milner, and i think the comment about finding his best position makes a lot of sense. the problem is, united really struggle to develop players, so it's going to be tough.

He is growing taller and stronger and once he gets his Seedorf size and gets more pace,he will be elite! Advantages for him is he is in a big,stable club and will grow with no pressure and proper guidance! He has a very high ceiling but needs to have his game time managed at club level to prevent burn out or injuries!

I see a lot of praise about this analysis. And I totally get a lot of it. But I for sure think Mainoo has debunked the “lack of explosiveness and can’t take on players at men’s level” killed both Liverpool and Belgium with his running with the ball. The way he turns and explodes out of tight spaces is immense!

Hi Jan, we didn't say he can't beat a man. Watch the dribbling section more closely. We said his dribbling suits players coming on to him and him breaking lines from deeper/central but not so much in final third time and time again. Secondly we said its about quantity of ball carry. So someone like young Cristiano could time and time again go on lung busting dribbles whereas Mainoo has to pick and choose when to beat a man. Thirdly we said with age this might change and is hard to predict, next 4-5 years will show us what his physical level will truly look like and we aren't in a position to accurately gauge that - but we do not see him as athletically matching a Seedorf (but technically/IQ wise he could).

@@PythagorasinBoots Just because he's being played in a deeper role. We've seen games lately where hes drifting into the final third and beating a couple people and laying the ball off. He has the ability to dribble in all phases of the pitch.

i think the problem mainoo is facing currently is that kobbie space is being occupied by casemiro. mainoo best trait is him getting on the ball and growing into the game but with casemiro being back casemiro himself likes to also sit between the two cb's so it leaves mainoo kinda in a no mans land. and much as i see mainoo as a 8 he's more of a 6 or a deep playmaking 8
@georgenjoroge62439 ай бұрын
When I watch him he reminds me of Clarence Seerdof and Moises Caicedo. He has a really good base, a natural feel for the game, some Casemiro-like nous and good arrogrance. He's fundamentally sound in all aspects of the game, offensively and defensively. He has a lot to improve upon but he's preternaturally talented like Pedri. That said, if he played for Klopp or De Zerbi he'd be much better and with a higher ceiling.

Just watched this video after the Liverpool game and I have to say Mainoo definitely looks like more of a Iniesta type of player and I think another thing he might need to work on is his work rate but that's expected when making the transition from youth football to first team football but nevertheless I can't to see him get better by the day.
