Big up. You summed it up nicely. The lack of keeping hold of possession is the one thing that kills us. We lose structure, and we're always chasing both attacking and defending. You we're spot on when you said that when Bruno and Rashford keep losing the ball, with unnecessary risk taking, "it cultivates a mindset that possession is not something to be treasured" 💯👍🏻

Great video. However, concerning Bruno, people, including you, overstress his risk taking mentality and pass accuracy. This is not his fault but a team issue. If you look up the pass completion of KDB over the years, it is very similar to Bruno's average. But do you see anyone criticise KDB? No! This is because he plays in a team with way better structure, cohesiveness and direction. Additionally, if you take a look at the way Fernandes plays for Portugal - the difference is night and day. He loses the ball much less often, keeps things tidy, and yet retains his chance creation volume. A better tactical setup, structure and fitting teammates profile at United will give you a Bruno who loses the ball much less and still creates chances.

As much as I appreciate the video, I have 2 problems with it: 1. This playing squad is clearly a Frankenstein not intended to play in any of those combinations due to injuries 2. You completely ignore last season's glimpses of what was planned. So for me the plan is quite clear - play out from the back. Build style from the back. Last season's press breaking with Licha and Shaw were amazing, so the manager added Onana and Amrabat. The latter was supposed to be an upgrade on Eriksen (same passing ability, more energy) to play alongside Casemiro. No bear with me here: Shaw-Licha were on the pitch together in 2 out of 30 games, Case-Amrabat simultaneously fit: 3 games, Case-Mainoo:0 games. So for me, we just shouldn't be over analysing the "style" because it's just a survival mode Pressing with Rashford is barely possible, but counterpressing is a different animal. And united were top of the league for high turnovers, following shots at the time of the recording. Now top 3. The problem is - we didn't score. All chances wasted, the first goal came against villa, Tottenham had 6 of the kind while behind us in turnovers and shots. Poor front 3 decision making. Maybe even front 2 since Hojlund is completely ignored

Imo Chelsea's problem is finishing. Sterling can finish but he's not someone you can rely on to score a lot, Palmer can create a lot but his finishing needs a lot of work, Mudryk can finish but he's too raw (and has had a lot of issues outside the pitch), and Nkunku, who's probably the best finisher in the team, has been injured. This leaves Jackson, who as a striker has failed to impress with his finishing, but I don't think it's fair to expect a 22 year old to come in to a team like Chelsea and immediately become a goal scoring prowess when nobody around him can do that. Combine that with the fact that Gallagher, who generally plays highest from the midfield (and imo can be a decent scoring option), just does not seem to want to shoot much, and you get the problem - nobody to score goals.

@HIM3153

The simple explanation is that their finishing is awful, especially against a low block where they are surrounded by many defenders. That is all. If they had taken at least half of those missed chances, they would've been on 4th or 5th spot.

Chelseas issue is their whole attack. Sterling is hot and cold they dont have a good finisher as a striker, Cole Palmer is solid not great. They need to w8 for Nkunku and get Kendry Paez back as soon as possible. Then they need to sign a good finisher and they are a title side. If Fofana stays fit.

If we had just looked to the locker next to Mount's in Chelsea's dressing room, we would have seen that we could have signed Kovačić who is in that similar mould. Do I blame the manager or staff behind him? Klopp and Pep have people around him who simply KNOW good scouting and recruitment. I doubt EtH has that. Hold up play- this is where Martin Ødegaard excels at Arsenal in my opinion. (Bruno F's main weakness) Remember Pep's criticism of KDB not to keep it simple. That's what an intelligent midfielder does. He must control l pace of the game. Fans always looking for flashy things from their favoritemidfielder- through balls , crosses and other stats but forgetting how important hold up play, switching sides and recycling possession is. Controlling the midfield- This one aspect what making Scholes , Xavi, Pirlo, Kroos such geniuses.

Solid points on all phases of the game. Just wanted to add something about our aerial game (admittedly not the most glaring issue) - you say we are an 'impressive' outfit but I'd still argue the opposite. Maguire, Varane and Shaw all 'win' a lot of their headers but the vast majority of the time the ball gets picked up by the opposition because they don't direct the header. That's also a team issue since none of the midfield seem to have any anticipation but I'm regularly tearing my hair out watching Maguire et al boom headers aimlessly into the air instead of nodding it down to a teammate. Just watch VVD or basically any of the other top teams' retention in this regard. On the other side of the pitch Rashford and Martial are just pathetic in the air

I think you’ve undervalued AWB here as a partner for Antony. I agree that neither RB should be starting for us long term but AWB is definitely a better partner for Antony than Dalot - he overlaps far more frequently and attentively than Dalot, who across 2023 has tended to go through the motions. As a partnership on the right, Dalot & Bruno have been poor with Antony because they are both naturally static and prefer to wait deeper for a pass. AWB also has that feel for inventive close range interplay, whereas Dalot is more technically clean but far less imaginative & improvisational with it. Dalot does have the odd game where he underlaps well, and this tends to get remembered disproportionately - in general he is less observant with when he needs to make such movements, and often jogs which doesn’t peel a marker away from Antony.

I've said it countless times, and I'll repeat it. Bruno Fernandes' "ball is a bomb" mentality is over-stated. You wouldn't believe what KdB's pass completion rate is the way Bruno is talked about. The lack of a clear plan and the right players encourages him to attempt the audacious. Fix that, and you'll have a better Bruno. Additionally, I find that XI at the end frankly ludicrous, might as well include Haaland, Lamine Yamal and Pedri. Spending all that money to have Shaw in at LCB is laughable.

Easy 250M. I know this won't happen. But if you want a rebuild then these players need to go. I would have loved for us to keep Sabitzer and Fred. This summer window was one of the worst ones in recent memory.

Put Shaw in as LCB to find ways to save money. The ultimate truth is that this United side has been spent on so poorly, that major upgrades are needed across the pitch to get it to a title winning standard. Obviously in an ideal world, a new taller physically dominant RCB would be signed. KDB rarely spunks the ball away in general build up phase, he only loses it if he is trying to create. Bruno loses the ball not only when he is creating but even in general build up play. Stats do not pick that up but it can be seen via the eye test. It is criminal to put them both in the same tier of quality. The big name players we suggested will all be on the move in the next few years.

What's shocking is the amount of replacements needed for a guy who has spent 400m on his squad (never mind the wages). That should have easily rebuilt the 21-22 squad. Instead they're looking at another 400m needing to be spent, that they don't have because of FFP and wasting what they had and it's mostly double ups (2x FB, 2x CB, 2x RW, 2x CM...) which is indicative of nothing but bad planning.

You could sign Casemiro for 70m... or you could sign Kamara for free 3 months previous like I was begging. They're not 5D chess moves if **I** can come up with them. As you say, unjustifiable.

When I look at how spurs played against city with 9 of their starting line up players either injured plus 1 suspension and match city toe to toe and play exciting and high tempo football just makes you think what spurs would of done with every one fit. ETH has no excuse hes been there for 18 months and there's no identity or style of play whatsoever and in some ways you can say football was better under Ole . Ange has been at spurs for 3-4 months. (and even after the first month it was clear how they were playing )and there's a clear identity and style in possession and out regardless of whether players are injured or not and makes no difference to the opposition. I truly feel the only way for united to progress now, is to just play the youth players and building around them as they are more likely to follow instructions and been more disciplined/ (not motivated by money). There's too many bad apples at the club still that have too much influence. id promote and start Mainoo, Gore, Garnacho,Hannibal, Amad, Alvaro Fernandez. Only players I would currently keep are Shaw, Martinez, Fernandes (questionable). Or buying as they wouldn’t normally do buy players but the right players United need a Frimpong RB, Olise at Rw , Amadou Onana to partner Mainoo and two CB as well as a striker .

Man this analysis is so nice I have to watch it twice. People are quick to jump to injuries as an excuse but the likes of Newcastle have had more injuries than us and their season is still going pretty well. I know it’s only one slice of the pie but some of Ten Haag’s decision making during this crisis we’ve been having have been diabolical. Every time he plays McT next to Mainoo, I think but why? McT isn’t really a midfielder and the likes of VDB (who he’s frozen out) give you some of that off ball movement that allow Mainoos passing and movement to flourish. He also refuses to drop the likes of Rashford and Bruno who are some of the most anti possession ballers in the game. THEYRE clearly the shoot first, ask questions later type of player which is the antithesis of how Ten Hag wanted to play. Ten Hag is also a pagan and a coward for abandoning his philosophy in order to accommodate for quite frankly, dead ballers so he can keep his job. I’m fed up of people acting like Ten Hag is blameless. If I were the owner of that club I’d clear both the manager and players to start again.

The truth of the matter is Onana Mount Casemiro Martinez Shaw have hardly played together this season at all. Also ETH wanted an upgrade on Maguire to suit his system and it didn't happen. So it's basically like ETH is on his first season implementing what he wanted to do (but couldn't cause of DDGea) but with Oles counterattack heavy squad due to the injuries. Sancho Greenwood Ronaldo have also been lost to the team since then and we are woefully light up top. I think (not a genius though) it’s our over emphasis on winning trophies and not accepting the fact that the good old days are gone. Every new manager has had pressure to live up to those Fergie standards. Only if they could have learnt something from Liverpool, Klopps’s first two year he only focused on making everyone follow his high press style. Results followed. At Utd, after ETH’s first two disastrous games, everyone questioned him. Eth after those two games has had only one target- to get a result. Long balls, counter attack. Same old OLE and Mou techniques. Even though I think out of every manager ETH was supported the most by the board but he’s basically a coward. I will always hate him for his treatment of Ronaldo.

To be fair, ten Hag has been allowed to spend considerable sums of money on players who should fit the bill. I love Bruno so much, so it's tough to hear he may need to move him on, but that's a sacrifice we should be willing to make to realize ten Hag's vision. That being said, competent football people should be replaced by the new regime to make sure such "diabolical" transfer practices aren't the norm.

@LiamGO

Havent seen the video yet but my biggest gripe with the team is the amount the ball is turned over a lot of hit and hope going on when it comes to shooting and crossing. Bruno has talent and is capable of magical moments but is very inneficient in the army they "say keep it simple stupid" and i think a lot of players at united arent capable of keeping it simple. Onana was used to having a two lumpy strikers to hoof the ball to where lukaku and dzeko would bully and win the ball aeriely. Also pretty slow in transition from defense to attack due to maguire and that whole back line shitting themselves and just opts for a backwards or sideways pass sllowing for the opposing team to get back into shape. The key for united going forward is rashford being a bench player as i dont think hes capable of changing his ways. Ten hag needs to rid the toxicity and remenants of thr past failed regimes to go forward, this means riddimg players that have a track record of letting down multiple managers Rashford,McT,Shaw, Lindelof and Martial. Even with the glazers i feel we are capable of succeeding as other clubs who have spent less have had success Liverpool is the prime example klopp rid the shite, instilled his own philosophy, has all the players marching to his beat, competitive in the league and europe.

Interesting comment on the discipline and respect for the manager. My view was that the Ronaldo thing was pretty much manufactured by ten Hag to prove a point and it did seem to have a short term effect on the team, but it hasn’t lasted. I think a big issue is that Sir Alex ran the whole club & when he left there was no one person with a big enough personality to take over the whole club. As impressive as LvG & Mourinho are, they are short termers who need a strong back office to run the the non-football side and link it up with what’s happening on the pitch. I think a similar thing happened with Chelsea, where Marina had been running the club, but then Boehly had no equivalent staff or back office management to hold everything together.

We all know the Owners haven't been good for the club but they've given the fans money to previous managers, EtH has wasted over £150-200M already on signings, that cost at least 3-5 players short from where we should be so EtH has to take the blame for that but there's room for improvement with the addition of SJR by offloading Arnold & Murtough who has overstayed their welcome already is a sign to send us in right direction! EtH is talking Rubbish when it concerns the January's transfer window cos we want at least 5 players 2CD, 2CM & 10 and release at least 5 players e.g. Dalot, Maguire, Lindelof, Willams, Bruno, Mount, VDB, Antony & Sancho.

Great great videos as always, coming from a United fan as well, I think 1 problem that has to be addressed as well is that Wingers take opportunities on their own too much in many occasions as well which makes a pure Striker like Hojlund useless up front. Unlike the golden days of United who utilized Van Nisetlrooy similarly a pure striker having the ball delivered all the time by Becks, Giggs, Scholes, young Ronaldo. Meanwhile Hojlund only gets proper delivery by Rashford only when he does the right decision which is rare. For some reason Bruno fails to properly provide for Hojlund and focuses more on passing to the wingers. Garnacho is very productive but creates opportunity for himself more than for Hojlund.

You're highly mistaken if you think Carrick wasn't highly press resistant. Of course, he's not at the level of Scholes but who is? No premier league midfielder till date is as press resistant as Scholes. Carrick will always be the most underrated midfielder in the premier league because his predecessor is literally one of the greatest midfielder of all time. Same goes for Frankie De Jong at Barcelona, he's a great press resistant midfielder but will be underrated because his predecessors are Busquet and Xavi.

Carrick was not press resistant. I watched every game he ever played being a United fan and that was not his strength hence he got exposed by Barca. He was not someone who could dribble out of a press but would end up passing backwards and sideways when pressured. He thrived more when he was given space to work with. He was not a Busquets type who thrives in tight spaces.

Bruno is currently not the problem at MU, he is often the best player on the pitch. But of course, when we want a team and club that challenges for titles consistently (realistically a long way off) Bruno might need to go as well. Bruno is no de Bruyne, but Kevin doesn’t play for MU. Also, don’t expect ten Hag to buy the best players. He doesn’t have the status as a coach to do so, neither the contacts, and neither the experience. On top of that, who in his right mind wants to play for MU. Only people who are over the top, mediocre, and earn star player wages. So, as long as the best players can come from the academy, invest there, build culture and take a step back. I don’t think that the people who own the club will want that, so on it goes, the biggest drama story in football, season 12.

spot on. But in my opinion ETH is not trying to play control possession football. like pep. hes abit direct in his approach fast football. he wnt his CB to progress with the ball more often be brave and carry the balll foward, hence the only single pivot and other CM higher up. Martinez is injured and thats why. Lindelof is same type but lack that confident and HE CANT DEFEND. Hes not even championship level interms of defending. Maguire is not a ball playing CB and he cant be. But respect towards him handling all the negativity towards him and came back strong. But that is waht to be expected from him week in week out. on the RB, should bought one. Is ETH really relying on wan bissaka for positional play and dalot who cant defend and cant handle the pressure on important matches? Should have bought a new RB. Simple. Rashford? because hes born in manchester united fan and the club itself treats him like king. So what do you expect if a king is spoiled? Just shame on rashy,if he doesnt changed, i hope he live with guilt for the rest of his life just because hes born in mancherster. Cant really blame bruno yes he act first then think but he created alot of chances and without him united are worse. The problem is ETH playing him as free role and dictates the tempo. For me ETH to be blame here on the case of bruno. He should just tell bruno stick to your pisition at no10 and help the front three, leave the center of mid to others. Eriksen is no where near his last season form and his out injured and all of sudden we are relying on a 18 years old boy to do the hardest job in a football match. ETH should know eriksen cant do it this season because last season we saw erksien declining and is he seriouly depending on amrabat to do that job week in week out in the EPL? Why ETH bought Mount? We already have bruno, mount's purchased is confusing for me. Bought him and not playing him and giving him the no 7? is mount really who ETH wanted? On ST's, should have gone with cheap and proven EPL STs. Bought an unproven kid with high price tag and with high expectation and burden, is he expecting hojlund to doit week in week out? Everyone knows we wanted kane and the whole world knows we cant and will not get kane, SO MOVE ON. Money that bought hojlund and mount could buy us a RB, a ST, and a CM. poor organization from top to bottom. He came from a club where there is structures, higher up helped him on and off the ptch, came to united and suddenly he is expected to do all and when things got bad, the higher up just raise their hands and say i have nothing to do with it. Pathetic.

Big up yourself. The rating you gave them didn't make it onto your scale. That's how diabolical this team is. The culture in that club is a disgrace. A culture of toxicity and lies. It starts at the top, but Ten Hag is also culpable. The players are also culpable as well. Imagine Bruno, Shaw, Maguire, and Rashford being your main leaders in that locker room. Shocking. People are waking up to Bruno and Rashford. Especially Rashford. That guy and Bruno ain't superstars. Their behavior on the pitch as well is a shambles. Even their transfer business is hilarious from a view point of a Liverpool fan. They sign Onana, who I felt is a bit overrated, but you go and sign Mount, who is hella overrated and ain't that great. 2 players who function best in 2 different types of football. Also, since towards the ending of SAF's tenure, its as if you guys forgot how to build a competent midfield. You sign Pogba, and you don't build your midfield and team around him. Shocking. If I'm you guys, I'll bin Ten Hag, and I'll bin majority of these players, Todd Boehly style

Some of the blame should be down on ETH. I do like him, however few issues of the club are arised from him 1. High incidence of injuries, mostly not secondary to contact injury. This is likely due to high intensive training regime, which does not translate to performance on pitch. 2. Man management. Issue w sancho, varane and multiple senior players, as quoted in several sources. 3. Static football.Look at other top 6 teams, who constantly running channels, overlaping and changing shape of the team. United formation is so static, every one standing at the same spot, waiting to receive the ball who never comes. Only holjund making effort in forward runs. This is down to coaching and team strategy. 4. Keep playing the under performing players, eg rashford, Anthony.

I want Ten Hag to succeed at United but giving Bruno the captaincy basically means he's part of the long-term project and signing Rashford to that massive contract means the same thing. There's no way we'll become a possession based team that can compete for major honors with those two playing week in and week out. Sure they have moments of brilliance and we've seen that before but on a consistent basis, we need to revolutionize those positions and bring in players that actually suit the style we want to play. There's no way Ten Hag can build a squad he's happy with when we still have players who were signed under Van Gaal, Mourinho, and Ole. No manager can overcome that obstacle...

EtH took on a club in dire straits following Ole's sacking & the weird Rangnick situation. He showed ability to implement a style last year & by all accounts had a good season. Now less than half a season into Year 2, he has missed a raft of key players & wasn't sufficiently backed in terms of striker signings. It is clearly below par atm, but not enough for the 6th knee-jerk sacking in 10 years. We might as well give him 4 years to see if it all comes good like it did for Arteta and Klopp because if there’s one thing that’s a sure thing is that if he’s sacked and someone else comes in, 18 months we’ll be back to square one with “[Insert Manager Here] has lost the dressing room”. It’s pretty clear that no manager is being set up for success at United. The player power is ridiculous. There’s deadwood that can’t be moved on because of their enormous salaries and they’re likely the ones because of the security they have, constantly leading the charge to throw managers under the bus. They didn’t like Ole's nice guy approach and the don’t like disciplinarian Erik. At this stage we might as well let them pick who the fucking manager is.

The detail in this video is incredible. However, I do have a couple of points that I disagree with, or I think could’ve been included. First of all, Amrabat is the perfect profile for the 6 mentioned here. He does seem to lose focus at times, but considering how little game time he’s had in a brand new team and a brand new league, I think that can be put down to not being used to this new environment. He’s a combination of the Busquets and Scholes style of players. Including great physicality and good defensive intelligence. He couldn’t be more perfect, he just hasn’t been given a chance, and I’m very surprised that he wasn’t mentioned here. On the point at 16:13, no, Casemiro, Bruno, and Rashford do not suit a possession based system, but this is where Ten Hag should’ve had some balls and dropped who he needed to drop to implement his philosophies. Even if you play a midfield of Mainoo, Amrabat, and Mount, that’s instantly perfectly suited to a possession based system. We have the players to do it. He’s supposed to be ruthless, but I’m not seeing that in examples like this. I also think it’s worth mentioning that almost all of your points are due to poor tactics from Ten Hag. From the build up, to the chance creation, to the player signings and selections, it’s on Ten Hag, and it’s not good enough. I fully back him, and I think he’s the right man for the job, but he has to stop being so stubborn and change what’s SO clearly not working.

Honestly, I feel like too much of the blame falls on the players. Are the players not fit for the possession system? Yes, absolutely, but given how much time ten hag has been given at utd and how much of the players that were released and acquired based on his philosophy that he's very vocal about. Man utd should at least be reflecting that identity already as it's been also 2 years already. He wants to make possession based football but he's rewarding players like Rashford and Bruno. And players that give you results like varane and casemiro are the ones being punished for making up for brunos and rashfords mistakes. Man utd still has a long way to go imo

Onana truly was a useless signing this season... We need De Gea back at least till the end of the season or maybe for another season and Onana needs to be benched for a few games... But man that'll mean Bayindir will be another useless signing for us and the only thing left for him to do will be to leave the club... I don't think a decent GK who played for a good Turkish club before joining us would want to be behind two goalkeepers who'll obviously get way more game time than him in the pecking order... And our season was further ruined due to our luck with injuries... Our defence was in sixes and sevens in many games because of the absence of one quality defender and that is Martinez and that's just the reality of our club rn ... We don't have two or more good defenders and wing backs to compensate for the absence of one... Look at what's been happening to us almost throughout the season with Luke Shaw and Martinez injured... Good thing Luke is back but it'll take some more time for him to get back to his previous form and that'll only mean more heartbreaks and defeats for us... Cz I don't really think we have genuinely good players apart from Martinez and Shaw... I mean they are all world class names but just look at how they've been performing this season.. our form last season was based on defence and De Gea protecting us multiple times and this season we don't have that sort of protection and that'll explain why we've been so poor so far.

What we need is a defense and midfield that works not DDG onana has faced at least the top 3 most shots this season in the league which is crazy how much he gets exposed. We need two defenders and two midfielders we also need to sell off some players in those positions I.look at the team and you see Martial still starts Mctominay still starts and same as Maguire and these are players we have wanted to offload for some time and that tells you all you need to know. Rashford thinks he's Prime Ronaldo and doesn't press any more these players want to get the manager sacked and I think they should be the ones to go.

I personally would still keep faith and upgrade the rest of the team first. If he's still blundering next year then yes, it is curtains.

I still think Martinez should be moved to CDM and play alongside Casemiro .

So glad someone else sees this. Bruno is good but he does not fit the way we should play. Rashford also, he is lazy and will not pass or play for the team. They both should be moved while they are still great players for big profit.

I think our biggest problem is long balls. If only we can learn to play short passes and only play long when it’s necessary we’ll be good…

Lisandro at RCB seems dodgy to me, great video overall 👍🏿

That suggestion was only because I was trying not to replace everyone in the side and utilise Shaw in a position where he could still offer some value. Obviously not where I would ideally put Lisandro and i would recommend a new RCB.
