Hello, Jose! I attended BIOLA College in La Mirada, CA about a few years before it became a certified university. At that time the Olive Grove took up the west rise of the hillside along La Mirada Blvd; I remember that the trees seemed to be spaced about twelve to fifteen feet apart. There were numerous olive groves throughout the city and in the area for the reasons you would expect; it was a well-respected marketplace for buyers and sellers. As the University added new dorms, teaching and auxiliary buildings, the grove diminished. In 2009, alumni raise funds to have a new grove created with sixty trees; some were new and many were mature trees originally planted on the property in the late 1880s. Since this is a private Christian university, the olive grove represents a very significant reference for followers to Jesus' life and the several thousand-year history of Israel. Thanks for asking. : )

Movie Jose, Pomona was a very good guess. I would have guessed a bit further to the east, Redlands.
@sherrillsmith83805 жыл бұрын
@@DanielinLaTuna - DLT, I thought it was an excellent guess and was surprized at the nearness to my unspecified college. La Mirada is about 4.5 miles directly SW as a crow flies, or 6 miles by freeway. I lived in several locations in LA and Orange counties, so the map is firmly in my mind from those days. Y'all have a great week! : )

Sherrill Smith, hello from SoCal! I’m not sure where Movie Jose lives, but I guess LA. We’re probably thinking along the foothills of the San Gabriels or San Bernardinos, where they had all kinds of fruit groves. UCRiverside still has a large citrus experimental grove, and CalPoly Pomona was a farm school. I always associate OC with orange groves, so BIOLA wasn’t on my radar. I love KZbin for all the learning, including in the comments section. Where did you go after leaving us in Southern California? Do you miss it? Blessings to you.

Absolutely beautiful home. You've shown so many beautiful homes, but this one really moved me. The creation of smaller, more intimate rooms by the curtains was a real feast for the eyes. Oh, and the well and little pool around the Olive tree was simply brilliant. Thank you for sharing this with us.

as an answer to many comments, in Greece we use concrete a lot anyhow. Every builiding or hotel you have stayed into guess what? It has concrete. We have to survive the earthquakes somehow, so that the way concrete with a lot of iron. If we had the wooden or brick houses that most of North america uses, guess what we would be dead by now. When you make a good or bad comment it's worth the try to hear the whole video. The architect said at one point immagine how the house will look when the plants will start to outgrow the wall. Immagine haveing all those colours.

No mention to the myth of Athens' foundation when talking about the fountain? Come on, a fountain and an olive three, Poseidon and Athena, the architect must have mused about it.

Trust me I'm all for modern houses and new thinking, but sometimes houses like these look so cool that they look ugly (in the aspect of a home). It doesn't look like a home, it looks like an artwork. I think in order to have a home being a home you need to have a line between modern and home. Integrate those two sides with each other. This is just bluntly all over all lines and just a thought, more than house with a personality in it But thats just my opinion

This was a wonderful visitation. I so much enjoyed this experience. I see that the gentleman was meticulous about the mathematics, but then the Greeks were/are great mathematicians. I was wondering about the overhang being sloped up that way, and I didn't see until he explained it that it unobstructed the exposure to the mountains. Love what you did here in your coverage Kirsten.

Architectural philosophy. What I like: large window wall that opens completely, the view, minimalism of the furniture, one level room arrangement, spacious, roof garden... What I don't like: triangular wall structure, the first thing you see when you go through the main entrance is the bed room, triangular showers and any sharp corners. In the end, the most important thing is that the owners are happy with the design and I got the impression that this lady is very happy. ☺️
@debracisneroshhp28275 жыл бұрын
Mimi Tea, I tend to agree with you. I prefer entrance near 'living areas', bedrooms more private. Besides, in Feng Shui pointy objects at/ near entrance denotes, 'stay away'! On the other hand, maybe that's also their intention! 😱😺

I agree, and you're being generous. This is a disastrous blockage of such magnificent scenery and landscape, except for the one glass wall. I do like the concept of upward sloping outdoor roof.
@iaJENKA5 жыл бұрын
@@jackfntwist yep and the upward sloping outdoor roof is just a copy that they took from what others have already done before them. The architect should be ashamed to show his face to the camera.

Thank you so much for these, and this one in particular. With minor modifications I could see a design like this working on the Gulf (of Mexico) Coast. The waterway around the house is truly excellent, I love the idea of combining the several forms of climate control, each making a small difference but ultimately eliminating the need for elaborate and expensive heating and air conditioning.

I don't understand when he talked about why the house is a triangle instead of a rectangle, can you help?
@debracisneroshhp28275 жыл бұрын
@@Danuxsy It's a sort of optical illusion effect. A small sq. meter footprint with the 'apperance' of more distance between the front and back of the property. Think back to art class when you learned about depth of field and drawing with the intention of making a point on the paper look like it was in the distance from your vantage point. Hope I was able to clarify the concept. 😺
