One of the most covered tunes in the history of recorded music. A prime example of what was called in the 1960s "Blue-eyed Soul." Believe it or not, the original tune was from 10 years earlier! (1955) in a prison movie titled "Unchained"!! You're exactly right, Pzo Malone, there aren't many love sonnets put to music nowadays.

Yes, Flute....but I actually believe this performance is un-reproduceable (if that is a word..ha). Bobby Hatfield does so many things technically, that individually might be learned and reproduced...but surely not even close to the total...by any other singer. AND...Bobby infuses the technical with emotional elements...that I've never heard or seen before. I believe...a review of the now many Reactions to this performance on KZbin...will verify this. By the way....this is the Best presented Reaction Format I've seen. Pzo Malone deserves high praise for this.

The way he modulates and enunciates certain words like "need your love", "much" and "touch". Most other singers just drag that out. That's just one of the elements why most women feel Bobby personally serenades them. He sing-speaks on their wavelength folding his longings and yearnings into 9-syllable runs like "I (need your love)", he's "killing them softly with his song" (Thanks Roberta!)

Yes, Bobby was one of those Artists that had Women saying "Please have my Babies !!!". As a fellow Vocalist ... Bobby Hatfield this is probably the best Live Performance ever performed of any Song ever. And yes, there are 2 "Giveret" ... but if you search for the intro to this performance with Andy Williams, you'll find out the story behind the Band name and why only Bobby performed this Song solo. Having been in Studios where we can "punch in/out" to get the best outcome and performed "live" as well, there are "choices" are made ... SO many factors go into it ... climate, mood, sound guys, et al. As an "old guy" a reminder that this was "pre-Auto Tune", Tube Amps and a Mic with far less dynamic range that what's available today. So few of us (and certainly not me) can hit high C ... post puberty (LOL and MJ could do it RIP). Utterly amazing IMHO. Just a "visual" note as well ... pre-MTV and the part where he begins to sing about how "lonely Rivers flow to the Sea" sync'd with the fade out with the yellow Globe bulb lights was SO cool ... again, IMHO. And BTW, Todd Duncan was the original release Artist in 1955.

This was live on the Andy Williams show. Bobby Hatfield sang this as a solo. He was ill with a cold and worried about being able to hit that note at the end of the song. Also, his Mom was in the audience and had never heard him sing live before. No pressure! The Righteous Brothers got their name from the Black Marines at El Toro base in SoCal. After a performance they yelled "that was righteous, Brothers!" The name stuck. Check out You've Lost That Loving Feeling, and Soul and Inspiration. His 'brother' is Bill Medley who sings bass/baritone. Bobby's range was tenor all the way up through the top of Countertenor. Most folks think it's falsetto but for him it's not. His voice is so relaxed he could get all the way up there. If you notice his jaw when he sings there is no tension there. No autotune, one shot at it: this is perfection. It's even better than the studio recording that was played on the radio. IMHO!

You know the Righteous Brothers! I was born in 1947, they’ve always been one of my favorites. I have several other CDs I used to have the records. It is wonderful to see them recognized as one of the greatest duets, which, each individually can do a solo and stand on their own. Neither is dependent upon the other, but to gather ❤❤❤

Amoung the greatest live performances of all time! Bobby Hatfield was one half of the Righteous Brothers, the other member is Bill Medley. His name was Bobby Hatfield who died in November 2003 at the age of 63. They( Bobby Hatfield and Bill Medley) were not brothers. You can hear both their biggest hit " You've Lost That Loving Feeling". Sometimes they would do solos. Other songs: Soul & Inspiration ", Ebb Tide, You'll Never Walk Alone, Rock n roll Heaven, I Just Wanna Make Love To You" and many others.

This is Bobby Hatfield. The other part of the duo is Bill Medley. Bobby passed away in 2003. Check out "You've Lost That Loving Feeling", "You'll Never Walk Alone", "Ebb Tide" and "Soul and Inspiration". This song was used in the movie "Ghost". They each did solo performances in each performance. I grew up with this music. No auto tunes. Just pure talent. The artists could actually sing, you could understand what they were saying and they dressed well. This was a TV performance. They were called Blue-Eyed Soul.

In the 60's, 70's & 80's, a period which I refer to as the Golden Age of Popular Music, if you did not have real talent, you did not get a record contract, PERIOD! All of the music from this era is top notch, even what was considered passe at the time. Music today has no soul.

This performance was done by Bobby Hatfield on the Andy Williams Variety Show. He is one half of the Righteous Brothers, being that Bill Medley is the other half. They were both 25 years old then. I was 15 at the time and remember these boys and let me tell you that us girls were so in love with the Righteous Brothers. Can't say which brother won out over the other with the girls back then. I watched this performance on TV. Bobby's mother was in the audience behind him in the blue dress. He was nervous performing. But when he was done with that performance, he totally owned it!! There is an original version sung by Todd Duncan in movie called "Unchained" about an inmate singing to his love to wait for him. This became a hit in 55' and was nominated for the Academy Awards, didn't win but made it to #1 on the Billboard Charts. The recorded version of this song sung by Bobby Hatfield was on the B side of a record because the A side was supposed to be the hit song, 'Hung on You." This b side was most played by the dj's instead, which became the hit song and made the Billboard Charts at #4 in 65.' It later was re-released for the movie "Ghost" in 90' and became a hit all over again with another Billboard top 100. They got their name back when people and things were referred to as being 'righteous, brother.' So after their performance the crowd would yell out "that's righteous brother.' Hence, they decided that was a good name to call themselves. Bobby has since left us to join the Band in Rock n Roll Heaven. To this day no one has ever bested Bobby's version!!! RIP Bobby.

Young man you are so right about music nowadays isn't anything like it used to be. There are so many more voices from the past that you have yet to hear. Ask yourself how many singers in this day and age sound the same if not better live than they do in studios? One I can say in the present would be Chris Stapleton but I can't name any others. Just be open to honestly listening to anything suggested to you and it will open your eyes to endless possibilities. Also once you listen to a song check out who originally sang it because a lot of songs are covers of songs from long ago. One in particular was Whitney Houston's I Will Always Love You which was originally written and sang by Dolly Parton. You will also hear a lot of covers for the song Crazy which was originally sung by Patsy Cline (another Angelic voice).

The Righteous Brothers consisted of Bill Medley (not seen in this video) and Bobby Hatfield. They had two big hits in which Bobby sang the song solo -- "Unchained Melody" and "Ebb Tide." But hearing them together is truly a special treat. Check out their songs "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'" and "(You're My) Soul and Inspiration." Honestly, you haven't really heard the Righteous Brothers until you've heard them both together. They were one of the biggest singing duos of the 1960s and were one of the main "house groups" on an ABC-TV prime time popular music show geared for the younger generation called "Shindig!" So they got a lot of air time on TV in the mid '60s when the show was popular. Sadly, Bobby died in 2003 soon after they were inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Bill still performs under the name Righeous Brothers with a new, much younger partner, Bucky Heard. But it's just not the same. Nobody sang like Bobby, and nobody's voices ever blended together quite like Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield, the Righteous Brothers.

Bobby Hatfield and Bill Medley were not' biological brothers but were magical together...and they got their name while playing in a club down south where a man did stand up and yell out 'that's righteous brother'...it was not at the El Toro base in SoCal. In 2003 Bobby Hatfield was found dead in his motel room in Kalamazoo Michigan and a coroner concluded that cocaine use had precipitated his fatal heart attack...so sad that such a beautiful man left the world the way he did...Thank You for sharing..peace be the journey !!!

You need to back this video up to see the humorous chatting with both Righteous Brothers and Andy Williams. They are all wearing pink that night because it was Valentines Day (1965). The Andy Williams show took place in a large studio with a live audience. In the chat scene, Bobby Hatfield and Bill Medley talk about how they got the name, Righteous Brothers and that Bobby sings Unchained Melody by himself. Bill was kidding when he said he didn’t think it was going to be a hit. They had decided to include a solo on each album and flipped a coin to see who would sing that first solo and Bobby won. The studio recording from 1964 was an immediate and giant hit. I like this live version better because of the more dramatic ending. The song became a big hit again in 1990 when it was featured throughout the movie, Ghost.

It was October 25, not February 14. Have no idea how that story got started. There probably was never a coin toss. I think Bill just got tired of being asked why Bobby sang it and not him. The earliest comments by him were that Bobby brought it to the recording session for his solo for that particular album. In fact, Bobby said he had been singing it for years even before he met Bill. It was so easy for him to sing it because he had it in his pocket. It was always Bobby's song.

This is a solo and he and Bill Medley were the Righteous Brothers and each did many solo's. They were dubbed 'blue eyed soul'. This solo of Bobby Hatfield's hit the charts twice! This song was song at the end of movie "Ghost " I got to meet Bill Medley who is the other brother( n of course they are not real brothers) Bobby here was one of the best tenor singer of all time hitting that high not at the end( most women singers can't hit that note) No Autotune just pure vocal. Listen to Soul and Inspiration n You've Lost That Loving Feeling n Rock n Roll Heaven( the 1981 version) n many more. Bill is still singing at 83 I grew up loving Righteous Brothers and Elvis. If you haven't reacted to Elvis you must( Bill n Elvis were good friends) Elvis sang RNR, Blues, Country n Gospel ( he got 3 grammys) Of all his music he loved gospel songs) I love all his songs( I think he sang over 500 songs I think) Suspicious Minds Vagus 1970 was one that showed all his moves gyrating I was friends with Charlie Hodge his confidant and best friend for years after Elvis died n he told me many great stories about his friend.
