I got my kids, 7 and 10, to start with a Tenkara rod. Had amazing success, fixed length line, no reel, simple. I bought the HANE from Tenkara USA, inspired from the review on this channel. Loved it so much, I bought one for my nephew too.

This is great! my intuitions were right then. I have a niece that I want to get into fly fishing and so I got her a tenkara, I haven't given her the rod yet but now I feel more confident I made the right choice.

No, they require specialized, yet very simple lines designed for Tenkara.
