I love this pod leanne! So needed to hear all of this 5 years ago when my only baby left for college. So happy this is out here for other parents that are lost during the empty nester stage and white knuckling life. What they don't say is as soon as you get acclimated they circle back so, you go through it twice. You appreciate the time even more the second time cause you know it's limited.

I’m 36 German living in Canada since 6 years it’s amazing how Canadians and Americans talk about having to share a washroom as it’s like a 3rd world country thing. We always had just one washroom growing up for 4 of us. I have friends that build houses they just have one full washroom and a small one with just a toilet and sink downstairs.

That question about the husband leaving at a party hit me completely different. I did this with my last girlfriend a lot. I am not big on meeting new people unless I want to meet them first. I've had too many instances where I'd meet someone and then blank of their name or what they do. It just doesn't register. I think I have bad facial recognition skills to be honest. I just don't like meeting people (putting on fake interest in the process) who I know I'll probably never seen again, or I'll rarely see them if I do. So we would go somewhere and if I didn't think she would care about meeting a person, then I wouldn't introduce her. In my mind, I was thinking that's me doing her a favor. She didn't see it that way. She saw me just ignoring her while talking to someone else. My good intention was never received that way. Likewise I would leave her alone if she was talking to someone I didn't know. I would get "Where were you? I wanted to introduce you to..." and in my mind, I'm like, yeah I know, that's why I was across the room.
