One thing that struck me as a huge difference on my one visit to Turkey (from Ireland) was how safe it felt walking alone anywhere I walked at night be that Istanbul or any other city there due to the fact that there were no drunken gangs partying or arguing on the streets outside pubs or at takeaways. The attitude to alcohol is so different. Young people seemed to be able to enjoy themselves without getting piss drunk and making a rowdy spectacle of themselves in public. A very refreshing change.
@tkendirli
@tkendirli 3 жыл бұрын
That's because if they (these bullies) pursue this kind of behaviour there will be consuquences. There is a saying in Turkish "Dayak cennetten çıkmadır." Which means "Whacking comes from heaven." Not only legally also socially. By example if they were not dealing with police, another group or a couple groups of young men will deal with them in a not so friendly way. :)) Let say the instant justice of social fabric.
@shooster5884
@shooster5884 3 жыл бұрын
@@tkendirli Yes it used to be socially unacceptable decades ago in Ireland to be drunk in public and making a scene because of it. If one if your friends looked like they were getting slightly drunk you would take them from the pub/bar to not let it be noticeable.. to protect them from the embarrassment! So different with young people today... well before covid-19 anyway.. it seems to be obligatory with some of them to get drunk and make a spectacle of themselves which means to them they had a good night out... !
@tkendirli
@tkendirli 3 жыл бұрын
@@shooster5884 thanks. I didn't know that. The social fabric can be only more reliable with the help of social interactions and public response. If everyone sees such things as a shameful act the young one's will also notice and take that in an educational way. Basic values, morality, respect and good manner are often far more powerful than rules, law or punishment.
@shooster5884
@shooster5884 3 жыл бұрын
@@tkendirli In most cases in Ireland it's just the young ones out for the night in good form, having a few beers, loud and noisy, laughing and chatting, not all get piss drunk, absolutely no harm in them at all. In Turkey however I never saw any such loud groups at all. I imagine it's just the social norm around alcohol there.

Yes, I too believe interviews with different cultures living in Turkey is beautiful every part of it and very interesting, people are the most hospitable in the world, we have been to Alayna, love it there...I am married to a Turkish man, so have been so fortunate to be part of the culture and enjoy the experiences of the way of life. I am sure many other expats also love it there,, the only thing I have trouble with is the extreme heat in the summer, otherwise beautiful place to visit or live.

Suggest you move to a little bit north, starting from Datça, Marmaris, Didim, Kuşadası, Çeşme, Seferihisar, Foça, Dikili, Ayvalık and so on :) You make decision after you visit to those towns. ( The problem is this, you may wish to be splitted into pieces in order to live in all of these towns at the same time :)) )

Turkish is a difficult ancient language because it is VERY different than Latin/Germanic/Semitic languages. Turkish people originated from North Eastern Asia. Turkish is one of the oldest languages in the world. There are still people talking Turkish dialects in China and Mongolia. Turkish is considered in the same language group as Korean for instance.
@nurettinsarul

Not North Eastern Asia, but Central Asia and South Caucasia.
@Valkyraw
@Valkyraw 3 жыл бұрын
@@nurettinsarul no, north east asia is right. we turkic people moved west wards and migrated into central asia. Martine Robbeets suggests that the Turkic peoples were descended from a Transeurasian agricultural community based in northeast China, which is to be associated with the Xinglongwa culture and the succeeding Hongshan culture.[34][35] The East Asian agricultural origin of the Turkic peoples has been corroborated in multiple recent studies.[36][37][104] Around 2,200 BC, due to the desertification of northeast China, the agricultural ancestors of the Turkic peoples probably migrated westwards into Mongolia, where they adopted a pastoral lifestyle.[34][105]

Turkish is important to know or have translated when using a hospital, as the fees are bargained... Sad to say that I was in a private hospital with a serious infection in my back and I was advised to change to a different hospital... I did... If I had stayed where the doctor wanted to operate , I would have died.. the surgery would have let loose the infection throughout my body. I had good care in the other hospital, but it could not compare to possible care in Istanbul, and definitely not as that of the U of Washington Hospital in Seattle where I went... I had to use my Medicare as I did not have enough cash to stay in Turkey.. I had family help to return.

@@sonbahar5296 gosh!! Nobody not even Americans can get even basic help without having to go bankrupt in the U.S. Bills are in excess of $100,000 for overnight stay in a hospital. Millions of Americans don't have insurance and as a visitor, you'll also have to pay a very high out of pocket fees which in other Western countries would cost fraction of that price. So, I totally agree with great quality and somewhat more affordable care even for locals in Turkey.
