Hi, Jay. I’m a huge fan of your work. I noticed for all of your tattoos your stencil work always come out so perfect and details. I bought a cheap standard machine on Amazon but it can only handle simple lines and whenever I try to print out a realistic image it just burn and make it really difficult to see anything. I was wondering what machine do you recommend for realistic tattoo

what I use is an epson 3000 series printer. and stencil ink liquid loaded into it. it gets pretty expensive considering the printer price and the ink is $150 a bottle(patented) I also Use photoshop to prep the image. So add that to the cost too. You can always trace out the important guide lines for your realism image. You can search how to do this. All the old-school realism artists used to do it this way before the stencil technology was more developed. This is more work but will save you money. It's also good for your artistic and hand training so I recommend this.

Sorry, but I am very confused about the greywash issue. Greywash is it when we use gray or white paint to make the shades of gray or when we take pure black and dilute it into several shades with the thinner itself? I know this question is kind of dumb, but it doesn't seem to me to be something well explained because each one does it in a different way.

no problem. From what I know, 1) There are people who dilute black ink with white ink to make different grey tones. 2) you can buy already made grey ink bottles from some brands so the ingredients is black ink with some dilution material. 3) you can mix your black ink with distilled water to make different grey tones. or you can achieve different grey tones with ALL black by controlling depth, speed, and layering. so just by changing your hand techniques. this is what I prefer but it takes a lot of practice so be careful..
