I love CAs a lot, I wanted to be a CA, i was so obsessed with becoming a CA when I was on matric, I guess I want meant to become a doctor because I am on my 5th year now. I will probably marry a CA to close that gap.

Hey, new subbie here I love your advice. I often feel bad for not pursuing the CA (SA) journey becoz i tend to see so many stories about CAs talking about how worth it CA is and how great the salary or work is. For me that journey brought so much loss and pain and mental health problems And I often find myself worrying if I made a big mistake for not pursuing it. And also I tend to worry if I'll have a great job that's not me being a CA. So I love that you reminded me that I should continue looking for what I'm looking for and not being stuck and thinking CA is the only career path I should follow

hey how does one become a CA with a financial science degree. I heard after your 3 years undergraduate in financial science one has to do a bridging course for one year known as BCTA then do CTA/PGDA (POST GRADAUTE DIP IN ACC) for a year which is equivalent to honors. then you do articles for 3 years.

Hi Mpho. Boston city campus has been recognized by SAICA. Is it advisable to follow the CA stream there or University are better? Thanks
@mphomakhubele
@mphomakhubele 2 жыл бұрын
Hey :) I know their undergrad has been accredited, but is their CTA/ post grad programme accredited as well? I actually don't know if an undergrad from a university would be better (because also, not all universities have been made equal in terms of the quality of their programmes.) I would say: - consider an institution that is accredited for both undergrad & postgrad, so as to minimize risks of not finding a spot at another institution for your postgrad - judge institutions by their ITC/ APC performance. Top performers for the Jan '22 ITC exam were University of Pretoria(99% pass rate), Stellenbosch (96%), NWU (95%), UCT (89%), Wits (88%), NMMU (83%), UFS (76%)... UJ had a 73% pass rate Unisa was worst performer with 20%. I bring Unisa up because most people from institutions without an accredited postgrad end up going with Unisa (due to stricter requirements & limited space from other institutions) I hope the above helped!

Thanks for the information i just to know and understand as to what exactly is the difference if someone is working as a CA at a bank, a CA working at the big auditing firms and a CA working at SARS ??
@mphomakhubele
@mphomakhubele 2 жыл бұрын
The difference is the "duties" they perform really. CAs at a bank will also have varying experiences because the bank offers vast options. At banks, you find credit managers, bankers (i am here), those in finance and even audit. I actually realize I could never explain very well on here but feel free to email me, Mphomakhubele.za@gmail.com, we can chat further there.

Hey Bakoena, not sure.. SAICA does have a recognition of prior learning (RPL) program. They'd need to determine whether the work done falls within their competency framework. Get in touch with them to find out.

Do you think studying through unisa will impact if i get into the big 4? Like pwc/kpmg/delloite(which is my dream firm i have no idea why/ey. I heard employers are biased towards ppl who studied through unisa
@mphomakhubele
@mphomakhubele Жыл бұрын
Hey :) I don't know whether the big 4 would turn you away only on the basis of where you studied. If you have a SAICA accredited qualification, you should be okay. In fact, I know a number of people who were with me at EY, and some at other firms, who studied at UNISA. Maybe check with people who went through the experience.

@mphomakhubele
@mphomakhubele 2 жыл бұрын
Hello! I'm actually not too sure. You would need to demonstrate how SAICA's competencies have been met through the previous work you did. If your training office is comfortable that the previous role covers skills being "trained" as part of the training program, you should be okay. Are you currently in a non accounting role, looking to join a SAICA training office?

What happens if you failed your first year do still have a chance and what are marks expectations for someone studying bcom accounting
@mphomakhubele
@mphomakhubele 9 ай бұрын
You still have a chance even after failing first year :) In terms of marks expectations, do you mean marks required to move into the next year within the CA course? If so, it depends on the institutions. I am not too sure how things work now but previously in my time (and that's over 10 years ago😬), UJ had a 60% requirement for accounting, and if I remember correctly a 55% average overall for you to remain in the CA stream the next year. I hope I've answered your question 🤎

Hey mpho am at unisa 2nd year in Bcom business informatics... after am done with this degree can i do a bridging course? And also with the non cta programs do you earn a salary? If so do you maybe have an estimate? Asking kindly 😊
@mphomakhubele
@mphomakhubele 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Vinolia, with regards to the bridging course, I'd say get in touch with the institution you are considering and ask them if you'd qualify. May also be key to do it now so that should they want you to take on specific/additional modules, you still have the time to do so. With regards to training programs without CTA, I think they are paying jobs. The amount would depend on the size of firm you are with. If I had to estimate (lol, and this is a veeery rough estimate...😅), I'd say between R6k - R10k as a starting salary. Don't rely on this estimate for anything pls 🤣

@mphomakhubele
@mphomakhubele 2 жыл бұрын
Hey, Many firms would be willing to accommodate this, but they'd need to trust that you would be able to juggle studying with work. Because of the competition in the bigger firms (with more candidates wanting to train there), I think one would be more likely to secure a spot in the smaller accounting firms. Go for the firm/company you want, and ask the question.

I think it depends on what you want to do in the future. CA(SA) gives you a broader experience, so you can work as a management accountant as well, while CIMA is more focused on cost and management accounting (vs financial accounting). CIMA also excludes audit in my understanding. I think check the types of jobs you want to get into, and the qualifications they require (LinkedIn would be a great way to check this)
