I made a Cinderella costume for my granddaughter years ago. She was six years old and the pattern called for 5 yards for the skirt. It was like a many circle skirt with godets and wedges. It was a perfect Cinderella dress for a six year old. I put 2 gross of Swarovski crystals on the skirt and it looked like nothing so I put 2 more. I thought I’d wasted my time until she got dressed in it and as soon as she twirled that skirt just was electrified! And my granddaughters eyes sparkled even more.

@@robintheparttimesewer6798 I know, and the little darling told all her friends that said “you are so lucky to have that dress!” that they could borrow it any time. And she did lend it plus she gave them hints on how to twirl so they got the best effect of the sparkles. She’s now working on her masters degree at university! How quickly they grow up.

Somewhere on my list of stuff I want to make, is a butterfly skirt. I am soooo tempted to make one in all the colors, and I might. I have finally got the mess in my sewing room down to the point where I can sew, again. Reading wise, I am just going through my old magazines, and taking out the inspiring pictures. I am listening to anything I can get a hold of, just to keep me moving , because if I sit down in someplace quiet, I will fall asleep. Over the last couple of weeks, I have acquired about a dozen patterns. I get excited every time I have to move them, (they need a stamp, and to be cut out before I put them away) and I can't wait to get situated enough to be able to cut them out and maybe make one or two sooner than later. Currently, I have a UFO on my dress dummy. It's one of those that I had trouble with, and come back to later and go, "What the H#%% were you thinking when you make this blunder?" This particular UFO is a floor length version of a 1948 McCall 7498 skirt pattern.. I had managed to sew the back flounce on upside down. It's been a year since I set it aside,, and all I can think is "How tired and stressed was I when I slapped this together? Dang!" Here's to clear thinking when we sew.

Love the dress and the video! I’m one of those folks that has watched your channel for ages. I live in Denver now but was born in Seattle and raised in the Bay Area and you just sound so familiar to me. Nothing like California. I am a seamstress and do everything from hemming jeans to making wedding dresses and have done so since I was 16 (I’m 70 now so do the math!). I’m also a quilter, knitter and embroider. Gotta keep those hands busy when I’m watching tv. I’m not reading anything new but just reread The Red Tent which is one of my favs. My daughters are in their 40’s and were raised in the Bay Area too. Okay, I guess I’ve taken up enough of your time. Take care. 😊

I absolutely love grabbing a popcorn and riding the train until its gone (or um waaaaay after). It's so peaceful, I love watching families get on and off and listening to their lives for a little while and enjoying the park in a passive and leisurely way. Same with sitting on Main Street and just taking it all in. ❤

Also an 80s kid here! All the reproduction Strawberry Shortcake, Rainbow Brite, Care Bear, and MLP toys over the last few years have made my heart so happy! (Especially since I never had a Rainbow Brite doll, and now I do, plus I gave all my Ponies to the little boy next door when I was in elementary school because he loved them so much, but now I have some again.) And STICKERS! Mrs. Grossman's were my favorite. I loved the flat style, and also loved going to the office store where they had them on rolls and I could tear one off for a quarter. AND THEN, a couple years ago, I learned that Mrs. Grossman's now has a sticker club subscription thing where you get a bunch of stickers and they will also include a "sticker from the vault" which could sometimes be ones from the 80s. I had to stop my sub because I really didn't have anywhere to use them (all the new ones, that is), and keeping a sticker book just isn't the same when you're an adult. But the moment I find an excuse to get it again, I'm all over it. I can't usually watch this type of video when I'm wanting to WATCH something, but when I also have something to work on (tonight I'm going back and forth between knitting my first sweater and doing some classic 80s plastic canvas needlepoint), it's PERFECT, because it feels like just a nice chat while I work and I don't have to worry about missing something when I'm only looking at the screen once every few minutes. The gems kinda feel like dew drops on the wings - it's such a lovely effect

Les Mis will be up here in SF in July. Just FYI. Also, I really like this kind of video. "Crafting with a buddy", like someone else said. ☺ I don't know if they'd be strong enough, but there are clear sew-on snaps that might work to keep the wings in place. What I'm working on: I turned 2 skirts into 1 8-panel skirt and I'm almost done, just the closures and hem left. I'm also making Ora Lin's pirate pants in a printed cotton (felling allll the inside seams). After that, I have a 5-panel walking skirt in a light weight printed cotton (butterflies and flowers!). Before I do all of that, though, I'm crocheting a WIP basket for a crochet-a-long.

That butterfly dress is so beautiful! I love it! And I actually like Q&A's - it's fun to hear about what folks are up to. When you watch someone on KZbin, questions sometimes pop into your head (hopefully all happy ones) and its cool to get those answered. Like which Disney rides are best - OBVIOUSLY.

Lol, I hate-watch Outlander too! Love the format of this vlog and the camera angles were great. As a child of the eighties, your answer to favorite kid toys was alarmingly similar to my own. I played with My Little Pony, loved He-Man, and loved CareBears while ALSO not having any, which was oddly specific?! Beautiful gown and great job, as always!

Up until a couple of days ago, I had been listening to "I Thought It Was Just Me" by Brene Brown and "Tanqueray" by Stephanie Johnson, but really needed a break after a few heavy chapters in each. In the last couple of days, I watched a few of your videos and fitted a tank top pattern I traced from rtw and cut on the bias. I spent this evening transferring my marks, binding the edges, and hemming it to the audio of this video. I've noticed that I feel a lot more in the mood to sew when I watch you sew, so I use that to my advantage when I want to sew but feel stuck. I found your "stream of consciousness" style and the candor you capture in your videos comforting to listen to.

I watched the Ted Lasso finale yesterday! OMG so good! Spoilers: Super Happy Rebecca found the Amsterdam guy! I threw my arms up in the air and yelled with excitement when it happened! :D I figured Nate would be the head coach, but i understand the 'work your way back up' attitude. I always hoped Nate would be redeemed, and was not disappointed! Issac's net wrecking goal! Amazing! When they're checking the the office after Roy says he wants to join the DD, Ted looks right at the camera! lol! Then i spent like 20 minutes pausing it any time there was a paper, book or magazine! So many little Easter eggs! Honestly, one of my favourite shows ever! I'm heartbroken it's over, but was happy with how they ended it.

😂 We were so poor, we had goodwill toys, and my favorites were paper dolls because i could always make new clothes for them. I was a game master for a larp that was a charity program. We ran games with disadvantaged children as part of therapy. Because they could choose violence to solve the problem but it never leads to the best outcomes. The goal was to teach them problem solving in a safer environment. Sorry info dumping about Larp. I'd like to say I'm reading Nettle and Bone by T. Kingfisher. It is sitting on my nightstand, I'm reading trashy paranormal romance that is boarding on X-rated. I'm actually sewing, for the first time in 2 years. It's just mending historical small clothes but it is thread needle and thimble taking two pieces of fabric making them into clothing currently. 😊

That dress is amazing, so beautiful! I love the photos, and your friends costumes as well. Yep"The rape show", I only made it through about 5 min of one, that's all I could handle. Ted Lasso is on our list of watchables too. Ugh, I don't envy you your job search. That's how we ended up in the Netherlands, almost 7 years ago my husband lost his IT job in Palo Alto, and at his age, 58, could not find another, till a place in Amsterdam called him, it was a life changing experience we are loving, but totally unexpected. As for healthcare, even at our age, we pay per year here, what we were paying per month in the states, and get better service, it boggles the mind, and I was working as a nurse in the states! Wishing you luck in finding something you really enjoy, life is short, enjoy the journey!

Pretty Butterfly gown, the bedazzles didn't show that well in a computer screen, but I'm sure in real life they are awesome. I'm still knitting socks, but only have 1cm of knitting to go on the sock I'm on now, when I'll knit some vintage gloves. It's almost winter down here so it's the right season. (NZ). I'm reading some books that were made into TV series, like "Miss Fishers Murder Mysteries" and "Vera".

I would love a life where wearing a butterfly gown could be in my experience. That gown is worth what looked like an enormously labor intensive use of rhinestones. Beautiful photo shoot. I love fantasy gowns, so much room for making it your own. While (at least for me) making comic con cosplay is anxiety producing hence my usual _____ (insert your fav IP there) bounding method of costume creation!

This kind of video is great for body doubling/keeping me company while I work on something of my own. Currently hand-sewing a Seamwork Aims blouse because I do not have a dedicated sewing room and I don't feel like cleaning everybody else's mess off the dining room table and dragging out the sewing machine and rushing to finish it before someone gets mad at me for getting in their way.

Hi! I’ve been following this channel for a couple of years and have never said hi! I guess I was afraid of the comment section and interactions 😢 My name is Alex and I’m from Southern Virginia, USA. I’m a pediatric crisis counselor, a foster mama and I (try to!) make 18th century out of whatever material I can find and afford. Right now I’m trying out my very first set of stays from some thrifted curtains! I loved this video because it pulled me out of a depressive funk. Our most recent foster kiddo went home last week and the house is too quiet, so I willy nilly chose this video to fill the silence, and it worked wonders for me. I ended up getting out of bed and have started working on my stays. It feels like having a buddy in my sewing room with me. Thank you for being you! 😊

Thanks for answering my Disneyland question, we have some of the same favorites! The same favorite big rides and I also enjoy pin trading. I would probably live just relaxing on Main Street but I don’t go often enough to not feel in a hurry to DO more. I enjoy Star Tours but inevitably get a little motion sick. One of my favorite more peaceful things to do is to get on the last car (facing backward) of the Casey Jr Circus Train at night. The view is so different and storybook land is so enchanting lit up.

I spent last weekend teaching my friend how to sew a dress from concept to bent needle..... Next installment hopefully we will actually finish it. She picked out a wrap dress and we successfully did the arts and crafts (pattern prep) and laundry (fabric prep), followed by cutting out and darts, and two seams before the machine frustration set in. After she left I got it fixed, but I thought for sure it was going to need servicing. I'm currently reading the second Brandon Sanderson secret project from last year's Kickstarter. It's pretty good, but the first one was better.

Hey Noelle! Gorgeous dress, and your photos look amazing. And now obviously I want a bedazzling tool as I *obviously* have a massive need for one.... obviously... I have heard you and a bunch of other people talk about Ted Lasso and how awesome and wholesome it is, and still haven't watched it, but my devices are listening, and now I keep getting reels- I may have to find out which streaming service has it here in NZ!! I have to find a book to listen to- I'm in an indecisive drought at the moment. The options are there, I just don't have the spoons to look at them and do decisions. I'm going to have to meander through the library site later and see what I can find that piques my interest. Finally getting around to finishing my OG Pokeball crochet trilogy- have the pokeball and the great ball done, just finishing up the 'H' on my ultra ball. For literally no other reason than my Pokemon-obsessed partner had the audacity to wonder, out-loud, whether such a thing could be made 🤣

Crocheting a sleeveless top. Knitting the second sock to finish a pair. Wish projects are to knit a 1890s cycling sweater and generally change out my wardrobe to 1890s. Have you thought about possibly using mini magnets to hold the wings in place? That way you can change the orientation without permanent installation. I have done this with matching fabric covering the outside piece but you could also glue a gem on to match the rest of the dress.

I love videos like this!! I watch/listen to them while sewing and it's like having a friend over to chat with who shares my values :) Currently working on a #seamworkaddison blouse with the bonus bow. After it is done I have some house skirts to make that are going to be based on 18th century(?) petticoats, with pockets. Agree 100% on South America - have only been to Peru but it was completely amazing... Also, I don't like beets and still try them occasionally because maybe this time they won't taste like dirt :D The ironing mitt is genius - I've found myself ironing on my body more than I'd like to admit... in other news, super excited the Righteous Gemstones is coming back

I totally enjoy these videos. They are such good company while I am sewing. I am finishing some linen sheets. I am using the fabric-store linen and they are so lovely when they are done, but pulling the threads takes for. . . ev. . . er.

Such a pretty dress :D I adore it! (I also have a thing for butterflies, my favs are the blue morpho, but monarchs are very neat, too [high up the list ^^ probably 2nd]). Also, the photos at the end are utterly charming! I finished relistening to Super Powereds because love and also 2 omnibus sets from one of my favorite authors (fav partially because of said omnibus editions, but also I really enjoy their paranormal cozies and suspense books). I released a pattern for a support demon on ravelry that I'm proud of. I know you're not a crocheter, so I just wanted to brag because pride ^^ Happy PriDE MONth :D

“Tell me you’re a child from the 80s” I had 1st gen mlp and learned the difference between and how to use the remotes to play/rewind beta and vhs by the time I was 2 years old. I remember having a mlp movie on beta but forget it’s name. Sadly they are all loooong gone.

Such a pretty dress on you! And a work of art, too. I was wondering if you've read The Bridges of London books by Ben Aaronovich? Paranormal police procedural romps...funny and fast, with great vampires and witches and goddesses and gods. Ben was the writer on Dr. Who for many years. There is also a graphic novel series featuring the same characters, but I've never read them. The series of books consists of 8 or 9 books and I've really enjoyed all of them. Love your page and really look forward to new additions. And I'm so down for more Q and A's. Have fun1

Such a gorgeous dress. Instead of the snaps could you sew on short lengths of ribbon (1/8” wide, 8-10” long, attached to the dress at midpoint) to match up to where you want to secure them on either side of the wings. That way you could tie them in a bow when they aren’t in use, and tie them with the double piece of ribbon to secure each wing. I hope that makes sense, it’s hard to describe what I’m envisioning

Love the butterfly gown!! It's stunning! I'm also find with the long chatty videos, they are fun to listen to while working. With all the confusion of the last few weeks our dog has decided that too many things are changing. This caused a stress induced problem with medication he will be find but he hates the meds! So yeah survive the month and the next is my only plan right now. Oh and waiting for the next phy-changling book from Nalini Singh! I so want to just send the publisher emails asking if it's ready yet! Just like a kid. Are we there yet?!?

I am SHOCKED you didn't get more likes for this video, so I guess, (😢), I'm in the minority here, but I love your lengthy vids AND your talky vids. The biggest selling point of your channel is YOU, so this was great-and I am glad I finally got to see the butterfly dress in it's full glory. (You look awesome in it.) Since you mentioned New Zealand with regard to moving there, I was just wondering if they have a costuming community there. (Not just Middle Earth costuming, but historical. I'm SURE they have Middle Earth stuff, lol.) And if NOT....well that could be your next calling, starting that community. ❤

Instead of snaps, what about tiny magnets? You could glue them in with the E6000 between the layers.

Lovely photos! Just a thought re the snaps - you used to be able to get adhesive backed velcro dots - no idea if you still can though. Or you could cut little squares of adhesive backed black velcro? That might work? Currently knitting a beret, sewing a victorian nightgown for an upcoming costuming weekend and just finished Kate Strasdin's The Dress Diary of Mrs Anne Sykes which was very good - not fiction. I don't think it's out in the USA yet though and is a physical book not audio.

I could not finish Project Hail Mary! I love Andy Weir too but that book had one too many dire crises. I couldn't take one more. I can't tell you how many times I've read The Martian - at least 12? - I keep trying to figure out the science! LOL I have started The Wheel of Time. There are 15 of them! I did not know that. I've made it through four of them so far. And I'm watching the current season of Mandalorian. I really really like your butterfly dress. Do you have a making of for it? I'd love to see how you conceived the idea and put it together. You are very talented and I love your stuff!!

I've been watching for a while, this is my first comment! Hi! For the wings, maybe you could do thread loops on the edge of the wings and then use small sparkly buttons or beads to attach them to. The loops would blend in and the attachment points would be pretty even when visible.
