Bet it was hard to drag Nicole away from the shoes 😊. The museum was great but I was a little surprised they didn’t make y’all wear gloves to touch the items. Not even the guy showing them. My husband worked in several history museum collections departments and they always had to wear gloves to touch paper or fabric items. Photo shoots are fun. Y’all are so frigging cute.❤ And talented sewists.

Yes, I am a quilter and when I go to a quilt show, I cannot touch any of the quilts displayed on the wall. They call over people with gloves to lift up the corner so you can see the back.

The latest standards for conservation and curators are that gloves are not recommended for most textiles. Clean, dry hands are considered best practice for most situations. If gloves need to be worn while handling textiles, they are usually nitrile gloves since they are the most sanitary and don't limit your tactile feel as much as cotton gloves. Gloves are not recommended anymore for textiles because they limit your ability to feel the fabric, which can cause accidental damage from handling (i.e you can rip the fabric more easily in cotton gloves than with bare hands because the gloves make it harder to feel the tension in the fabric, etc.). Cotton gloves also carry dirt and bacteria, are never truly clean after the first wear, and the small fibers can snag or damage textiles. Nitrile are better than cotton gloves, and are what usually exist in museum nowadays if gloves are worn. Nitrile gloves are recommended if there are metallic threads or buttons in the garment, to protect the metal from tarnishing, if the garment is considered "dangerous" - so to protect you from the garment, or if you can't maintain clean hands easily - so it's simpler to throw on nitrile gloves and remove them as needed. This doesn't mean that all museums have updated their practices, some are still following old standards and protocols, it just depends on who is in charge.

@@AbbyCox Thank you. Very interesting. I cannot remember what kind of gloves they wore at the last quilt show I went to. I do remember that they wore gloves, tho, cause I got chastised by someone for looking at the back of a quilt. I had not touched it, tho, because there was a metal clip on it, and I only touched the clip. Luckily I had a witness! lol Quilts are serious business!!

I appreciate the bed chats where you give context for all the things that happened! If only looking at the footage, it looks like you do really much right after each other, but getting aware that these stuff happened on separate days and there was resting/just chillin out in between makes it seem so much more managable and I don't get overwhelmed at the thought. It seemed like you had a really good time!

The museum fashion and accessories were exquisite in their design, tailoring and embellishments. The stories of their creation, actual real-life use and how they ended up in this museum would fascinating to hear. Fun to see so many familiar faces at the ball, especially Abby doing early 21st century moves while in much older century's attire. I am following lots of trials (JH-ACH, Murdaugh) on You Tube so this vlog was the fresh air I needed.

You look gorgeous! But you do what I do! Get whatever requires makeup over and done with and then go wash my face lol! I put this on a couple of costumers that do medieval stuff. About 15 years ago there was a limited series on TV based on the Ken Follet novel “Pillars of the Earth”. I just noticed it is on Prime right down. Since you guys are all so darn young this wasn’t on your radar when it first came out. The novel is amazing and I wish I could read it again for the first time. It’s set in the 12th century and is very well done afaik. It was fairly well done for a tv adaptation of a novel. Lmk if you’ve seen it already.

Next time, I recommend powdered fixodent. So much easier and better for the teeth. Just fill the fang cavity with the powder. And wet your own tooth. Place it on your tooth (without exhaling 😊) and swish your mouth with water and it is attached. And. Just pull to take it off. That is the only way I wear my fans.
