~38:30 "Anything you can do for 124 reps is not really the type of load that would cause a strength adaptation to take place. If it's light enough to do 124 with, honey, it's not heavy enough to make you any stronger. This is the same thing as doing 100 air squats. 100 air squats makes you sore and that's all; that's all it does. You don't get stronger doing air squats. You get stronger by doing set of 5 with 5 more pounds than you lifted last time. That's how you get stronger. Nothing else is going to make you stronger. 124 reps of anything is not going to make you stronger any more than running 5 miles is going to make you stronger." So many people need to hear this!

I've had back pain since I was 12 years old, honestly. The difference now is that when my back is hurting and it's squat day, I go squat, I don't baby it. Squatting 375 doesn't make it worse, and most of the time makes it better. You can either have a weak back that hurts, or a strong back that hurts. Go squat, it will probably change your life in a major way for the better.

That was some serious "tough love" towards the newbie guy who exposed himself by listing his stats and finally found that he could stick to lifting weights, and felt good about himself. I hope you didn't completely turn him off the gym. While I realize that he did some silly shit (yup), being consistent and motivated is a huge factor of training as well. Good luck to you, random 79 kilo dude off the internet! You can do it (stick to the program, though)!

Good episode. I thought this was very productive. I did not expect you to endorse TRT, however. My big fear is once you're on it, you are on it forever and it ain't cheap. I also have "heard" the effects taper off fast.
@sydneybird116
@sydneybird116 5 жыл бұрын
I started TRT about 7 years ago when I tested around 120 when I was 52 years old. Creams and lotions did not get my numbers up; waste of time and messy. Once a week self injections into the thigh worked and now my numbers are 500-600 range. Really helps with mood for the first 6 months until you get used to the good mood and you want more, so that feels like the effect tapers off. It is just getting you back to "normal". One side effect is that you may need to give blood donations every two months to keep your blood cell count below max, but that is good for society. It is still intimidating to see all the lean hard bodies at the donation center doing the same thing, because I'm not. TRT is no substitute for training, just makes you feel better so that you do train. Another side effect may be intense nightly woodies. If you are already low test, then it is a life long treatment. Also, over time your gonads stop making the little it did make to begin with since you are taking over the supply with the TRT. May not be reversible if you stopped TRT. Syringes are $1 each and my 10 week supply of TRT is $20 copay insurance.

I can understand the point of active recovery or light days just so you can stay active, but I wouldn't think of them to help the heavy lifting days. The only reason I would consider them is just to stay active, have the mental strength to be sore and still go on a 2 mile jog the day after squatting, etc that kind of thing. .....but BIG LOL at "this guy has been working out 2 months and needs active recovery"

Can an intermediate lifter, who has made significant strength and muscle gains, benefit from switching to “starting” strength? In other words, will they eventually get to where starting strength will take them, or is there some untapped strength gains in the starting strength program that they will never achieve otherwise?

What are your lifts, height & weight? You can probably run a linear progression for a month if you squat & deadlift less than 365 for 5, bench in the low 200s, press around a plate, clean in the 200s, & eat & recovery well.

Rip is someone who is soberly and genuinely engaged in his field; and like God, he has no desire or obligation to chase you down and stop you from being a moron. I see so many people criticizing Rip and they give away the fact that they don’t have the tiniest clue about the book or program within 20 seconds. They’re all female minded; right from the desire to draw eyeballs instead of develop excellence in the field to the catty and illogical way they feud with those they disagree with. The spirit of the father is largely dead in the west, and that’s how I know that Rip is right at least half of the time; because everybody else is approaching the issue from a spiritually lacking position.

What is wrong with a trap bar deadlift? If you can keep adding 10 lbs to it regularly do you not get strong?
@FinalHeresy
@FinalHeresy 5 жыл бұрын
@First Last Trapbar is a much riskier exercise than the deadlift according the Rip. He's did a podcast with Mark matthews and he went over it in detail for a long time. trapbar is less stable at the top position essentially, and everyone can do the deadlift who can do the trapbar.

Ok no let's talk about this. The lad here is NDTP and we can all agree about that because his 20 points basically say so. That said, it's just unfair to shit on his gains. 40kg to 80kg on the squat means +40kg in 2 months without even doing the program properly. If I could put 40kg on my squat in that length of time I'd be butchering lambs on the top of a mountain singing lode to zeus. Not everyone can get his squat to 405x5 on his first linear progression, otherwise every gym would have a few 600+ raw squatters and that is not the case in my experience. What if we just say "mate, forget the BS, stick to the program properly for 2 more months and get back at us when you weigh 200lbs and squat 300x5"?

Don't put yourself down like that, just because you're a 43 year old female doesn't mean that your standards should be that low.

@@ggrthemostgodless8713 Hers are low as well, by the way she commented. Rip himself said in the vid that even a 90 year old granny could do this, so it shouldn't really need pointing out that a 43 year old woman benches more. Of course she would bench more, unless you somehow think that this amount of strength would be surprising.
