If we can just leave it in the comments then I have the following qeustion: Dear Rip, You've said many times that ones body will adapt to proggressive overload, ones tendons, ligamenta muscles, even bones adapt by getting a higher bone density. But what about the spinal discs? Do the spinal discs adapt to a proggressive increase in axial loading? If so, how? The walls of the spinal discs have to withstand the outward pressure of the fluid within when compressed during axial loading. Do the walls of the spinal disc adapt somehow by getting thicker or stronger in some way? Kind regards

Thoughts on 5/3/1? Working with 90% of your one rep max seems odd to me.
@marceldavis76074 жыл бұрын
Because you don't normally use 90% of your 1 rep max. Normally you would use 80-90% of your 1rep max as your training max. The percentages in 5/3/1 are referring to your training max. So essentially you will be using 90% of 80-90% of your 1 rep max.

just curious, i'm a foreigner. why "OK boomer" is considered a "hater comment" in the US? what does it mean?
@ChanaRo6134 жыл бұрын
"OK Boomer" is a catchphrase and internet meme that gained popularity among younger cohorts from 2019, used to dismiss or mock attitudes stereotypically attributed to the baby boomer generation. The phrase first drew widespread attention in a 2019 TikTok video in response to an older man, though the phrase was coined years before that. Considered by some to be ageist, it has been used in a variety of contexts including by Chlöe Swarbrick, a member of the New Zealand Parliament in response to heckling from another member. The phrase has also been used commercially to sell merchandise, and there have been multiple trademark applications submitted for the phrase." (Copied from Wikipedia)

Two Aggies were trying to figure out a way to make some money. they got all gussied up and wandered into the big city and started looking around. One of them, Maynard, said to his sidekick "Cletus, look over at that sign!" Cletus read it aloud "Dress Shirts $1.50, Slacks $2.00." Maynard said, "Ain't that great?! We can buy up all them shirts and slacks, take them back to our town and double or triple our money!" They looked over their reflections in the storefront windows, fix their bolo ties, and went inside to talk business. The guy behind the counter smiles and says, "What can I do for you gentlemen?" Maynard speaks up, "Sir, my business partner here and me want to buy up allll the shirts and slacks you got." At first, the guy behind the counter looked confused, then his face relax into a grin. He asked, "Are you two fellas Aggies by chance?" Maynard and Cletus both smiled and looked at each other and Maynard answered, "why, yessir, we are! How come you knowed that?" The guy started reading his magazine again and said, "This is a dry cleaners."

And there we go with the nonsense again. Exercise does not affect body fat? Why the need to be so obtuse and illogical? Any cretin knows that an active lifestyle (NEAT activity or just moving around a lot as part of daily activity) has an enormous affect on fat gain or loss. I regularly monitor my calorie consumption with monitors and the difference between a sedentary day and active day can be as much as 1500 to 2000 calories. Weight loss is primarily a function of TWO variables: input and output. Insisting that everyone focus on input only is idiotic and makes zero sense especially when we consider the dire compliance rates of most dieters. One is left with the suspicion that RIP advocates this mostly because he only advocates SS training at the expense of any other consideration. For a coach to be this narrow minded and frankly wrong about weight management is appalling. Stick to strength in a 1 to 5rm range and dont get involved in evidence based discussions about weight management, cardio health or anything else. And dont get me started on why running is a good thing for the military to train. RIP still thinks the military dont need to run because they "ride to battle" and yet somehow a 2.5x bodyweight deadlift is a requirement in Rip's mind. One can just as easily reply that we dont fight with axes anymore either. If you are looking for a balanced, nuanced and objective opinion on all matters health and fitness, you don't find it at SS.
