Q&A Midrash | Miketz | Bill Cloud

My husband and I listened to the midrash today, and some of the discussion related to the possible Messianic symbolism of Benyamin, but as Bill stated, Yoseph is the Messianic figure. The following is a note I took in my Bible from some years ago that resonates with me. I don't know who to credit. It reads, "Benyamin, prophetically, maybe the Hebrew Roots movement (for lack of a better name). We walk like Judah and have the testimony of Yeshua. To unite Christians and Jews, we are supposed to be "sons of the right hand. We need to have hearts of servants. We have the grain - the Word - and we possess the silver cup of redemption - Yeshua." Perhaps the name change from Son of My Sorrow to Son of My Right Hand represents how we began and our transformation into who we become - a people of helpfulness, strength, and purpose for the Kingdom of God who reflect Yeshua in how we walk, talk, and breathe. And Happy Hanukkah!

Yes, that is a very interesting observation. I also think Bill said something profound when he spoke of Joseph waiting to see if Judah loved their father as much as Joseph did - not whether Judah loved the father’s son/Joseph’s brother as much as he did. Perhaps in the modern case, the roles are reversed. Is Judah waiting to see if Joseph loves their Father as much as Judah does - enough to obey His commands? Does the western church love The Father more than they love The Son? What I mean is there are many churches that pray to Jesus when He said to pray to His/Our Father. Is there a possible connection there? I wonder . . .

@@tedvail5805 That is a thought for consideration, and you might be correct, but one big difference, from my perspective, is that Judah doesn't want the Western church to keep the Law. I don't think they know what to do with us who do try, like in Acts 15. Most of Judah today seem to treat God's promises as their own and as if God is limited in the blessings He has to give. (Bovine-wash!) I believe we will continue to be second-class citizens in their eyes, that is, until perhaps two years into the famine (when God does what only He can do) and Yeshua finally reveals His identity to His brothers. In reading this week's parsha, I believe the symbolism I originally presented holds true concerning the abundant provisions provided for Benjamin (Gen 45:22). Yet, as with all prophecy, God will reveal truth to those willing to search out the matter, and in His timing. Our own failure to recognize Who we pray to, Jesus or the Father, is just one more in an exceedingly long list of our own deficiencies while walking as "Gentiles." That doesn't mean I walk with arrogance in any way. It makes me more aware of how blindness affects us. Do we still have blind spots in our vision? I pray eyes will continue to be opened, understanding renewed, and hearts made as flesh so His Word will be written upon them, and we will all serve Him as one (echad) body.

Excellent discussion!! I love it!! I was thinking that Joseph had the divination cup cuz he used it. He was married to an Egyptian. Now Daniel in Babylon drank water and ate fruit/vegetables. Daniel had no wife. I believe Daniel was cleaner and more able to hear God. People can be confused with prophetic versus divination. Blessings
