I really like that you give impartial answers and don't gravitate to "blue" as a lot of people have already made up their mind, not by performance or capabilities but out of knowing the Millers better or for longer. You just give it how it is for both. I actually just bought the Rebel 205, and like everybody I'm sure, I'm questioning my choice. The dealer had both machine side by side for the exact same price. After doing some homework and reading as much as i could about both as well as the Lincoln Electric 210 MP thrown in the mix too. I ended up choosing the Lincoln first, as I chose price point because I was going to add the 200 Square Wave onto of the 210MP. As they would have pretty much added up comparably the Miller and the Rebel all said and done. After considering all options, I took the Lincoln home, had it in my garage for a few day, without setting it up, I got buyers remorse and returned it. Reason being, I really didn't like the mig gun that came with it, as it was very, not to say cheap, but it was pretty cheap looking, and definitely a light hobby gun, and on top of that I wouldn't be able to weld 6010 electrodes with it. I have my pressure welding ticket, and not that I'd be doing a ton of piping projects in my garage (I mean none), I still wanted to have the ability to practice for pipe tests on 2" coupons with 6010 and 7018. I also want the ability to weld tig in both AC/DC, and the Rebel totally out performs the lincoln in that regard, functionality wise, with more capability and wider ranging options. I was torn then between the Miller and the ESAB Rebel, and chose to get the Rebel. Again I chose this one over the others due to performance and capability. If I wanted it purely for mig,, well there are lots of options purely for mig, cheaper options, but again I think the Rebel pulled me that way for this reason as well, it put out slightly less top end wire speed that the Miller, but being 220v machines, there really won't be a lot of top end welding due to duty cycle. The Rebel over all in my opinion offers much more, especially when you get more experience. Just like when you buy a bike or a quad, some people sacrifice getting the better model because they're new at it, but experience comes, and when it does a lot of the times people wish they had of splurged or chosen more of a top end model designed for more experienced people. That why I chose the Rebel. I'm now, like a lot of people, questioning that decision, not regretting my decision, just confirming my decision by watching more videos that cover their performance. Long story short, I think I chose wisely as the Rebel not only gives many more options for AC/DC tig, .045 Flux core and the ability to weld 60 series electrodes. So for when I do practice at home for an upcoming pressure test, I can comfortably do that with this machine over the others without having to bring in a different machine just to burn 6010, or have to practice at work, where you have to explain what you're doing, and put up with the looky-loos who inevitably never leave you alone to do your thing, without throwing in their unwanted change (2 cents) all thetime, and grabbing your pieces and "inspecting" your work like they are the authority on the matter, lmao. Happens EVERYWHERE. Unfortunately the Miller or the Lincoln are not made to weld 6010 properly due to lower OCV (open circuit voltage) So hopefully I don't end up regretting my choice, I feel better again after watching this and other videos. Goodluck to everyone else who will also be choosing their next welder.

I will say now that they have both been out for a while (they are both in stock) The Miller is more popular and overall easier to use/ higher rated by end users. ....However 205 still wins in the 6010 arena and TIG adjustability. I use a millermatic for odd jobs at work and i have an esab 205 at home. The esab is far superior machine for tig processes. I do a lot of aerospace titanium fit at work and cant use the millermatic at all but i could use my esab all day for it because of the diverse parameter controls.

You mention TIG differences like the frequency and amperage capabilities but what about different wave form or pulse functions? 2T/4T? I was also wondering does the ESAB use regular dinse connectors for both TIG and MIG torches? The Miller uses a flow through connector for TIG doesn't it? Just wondering for being able to try different types of torches and mig guns etc.. Thanks!
@BakersGas5 жыл бұрын
The front of the Rebel 205 has a regular 50 mm dins connection for your positive and negative polarity. As far as the MIG gun is concerned it uses a Tweco power pin connector, basically industry standard.

@Enonymouse_4 жыл бұрын
Most 1/1/1/1 are true-color, but when you get to shades beyond 9, color accuracy and luminance repoduction around the weld pool is still an issue for most ADF's. What annoys me is some of them will brag about color accuracy but only show it at shade 3, as if anyone will actually be welding at shades close to 3.

@shockwave8a1965 жыл бұрын
Howdy, thanks for putting this comparison together. A couple questions if I may. Will either one do mig spray transfer? Can the mig gun be left plugged in while using tig/stick and vice versa? Can either one use mig spool guns? Does the rebel have a foot pedal, and does either one have wireless foot pedal options? Is there a water cooler that can be used with either of these for water cooled torches? Can the firmware be updated on either one?
@BakersGas5 жыл бұрын
I can answer a few of them the others I will have to get with the manufacture/our welding engineer to confirm. Yes the MIG gun can stay connected on the 220 you can actually just pull the trigger/tap the foot pedal and it switches over. (QuickTech technology) which makes it super easy and fast to switch processes. Both you can add a spool gun. Miller you can use a wireless or hand control they would be a separate add on. I can get you pricing if you are interested. ESAB does not have a wireless foot control. It does come with the corded one. Feel free to email or call us too! 877-930-5690 support@bakersgas.net
@BakersGas5 жыл бұрын
Checked with ESAB and the 205 will spray arc with .035 wire with 90/10 argon/C02. You can leave the MIG gun plugged in while TIG welding however you will have to switch out the polarity out of the positive to the negative in order to switch over from TIG to MIG or vice versa.

I know you touched on this and you said the esab could run a 6011 Rod but the Miller had some difficulty could you explain why that is important?
@LT4Nova5 жыл бұрын
My guess it is because it's a popular rod with superior tensile strength? Therefore people looking into buying newer welders may want the capability to run that rod.
@BakersGas5 жыл бұрын
Michael 6010 deliver deep penetration and are popular because you can use them to dig through rust, oil, paint and dirt. 60 indicated the tensile strength of 60,000 and the 1 means all position and the 0 indicates the type of welding current so for 6010 DC Only. Its a big deal because many of the new inverter style machines don't handle them as well as an industrial transformer type welding machine. Here is a good post from ESAB about 6010 for you to check out if your interested: www.esabna.com/us/en/news/newsletters/may-2016/welding-and-machines-for-6010-electrodes.cfm

Both machines are great but it really does come down to whether or not you are going to need to weld 3/8" material or thicker.
