Why aren’t there more videos from Esther? I’d love to see what she’s quilting!!!

Esther passed away in the fall of 2021. We do have a little more footage and we could definitely make a video showing off some of her work.

Hello Esther, do you have a recommendation on where to purchase one of these beautiful Quilt Frames? I would love to purchase one. I’ve been Hand Quilting since 2006, and I adore it. And thank you for sharing your valuable time and knowledge. ~ T.J. Cowling from Oklahoma City

Hi T. J., I used to have the same problem: I never could find a frame I was completely satisfied with. That's why my husband and son started making their own about 5 years ago. My son Angelo crafts every one of these in our small German workshop. They are only sold directly by us. You can visit our website at mqlt.de or get in tough through email. If you send us an email with your phone number we can call you back. We do ship our frames worldwide. mq@millersquilting.de

Hello Esther, I was wondering... How do you do the fine quilting (I don't know what it's called) we see at 0:59 on the video between the flower and background grid quilting? Thank you in advance.
@millersquilting3 жыл бұрын
Hi David. That is something we teach in our Extended courses. It is called stippling and we use it to create. Textural contrast. In this case Esther used a very fine fishbone pattern.

Good morning Esther, from Melbourne Australia. Thank you so very very much for this video. I have never sewn, neither by machine nor hand (ok I’m a theatre nurse/emergency nurse so I’ve done my fair share of stitching) and I started hand sewing a quilt for my only granddaughter during our very strict lockdowns last year, which really helped me keep it together. I stupidly became more ambitious and the quilt became bigger. It is a storybook, family tree, busy quilt with many different sized blocks of landscapes and photos, and a panel on the reverse side. I’m going to start quilting it soon and my plan is a simple straight line quilting except maybe around appliqué of which there are many. Do you have any advice on how to keep the three layers together effectively, yet maintaining the integrity of the photos and still emphasising the landscapes, please? I don’t mind taking longer because our borders are shut and she lives in South Africa. My husband made me a quilting frame like you have in the video. I appreciate any advice you may have. Thank you and greetings from Melbourne.

If you have a 3 rail quilting frame then you should be all set. Even without basting. If you only have two rails you should definatwly baste the quilt before quilting. My tip for quulting pattern? Don't quilt in the ditch. It does not give the quilt anything and is the hardest place to quilt because of the many layers. I would recommend taking a photo (black and white would be preferable) print as large as you can and play around with different designs until you find something that feels right and accentuates the idea of your quilt.

@@millersquilting thank you very much for your response as well as for the advice. Regards and stay safe. I look forward to your future videos.

I think you only start in middle of a basted quilt that you are quilting on a hoop.
@millersquilting2 жыл бұрын
Esther would never start in the middle. She rarely quilted in a hoop. Almost always in a frame.. No basting needed.
@joycej94152 жыл бұрын
@@millersquilting yes I quilt on frame now with no basting but when I started I only had a hoop. Thanks!
