thank you so much for the mention, and the thoughtful comments. and DHALGREN is a huge favourite of mine. I learned a lot about writing/thinking cities from Peter Ackroyd, particularly the novels HAWKSMOOR and THE HOUSE OF DOCTOR DEE - London is definitely one of the great real cities of the imagination. i hoped to do something similar for Bangalore in my stories.
@SherdsTube2 жыл бұрын
My pleasure. Very glad to hear I put you in acceptable company. :) I've been meaning to read 'Hawksmoor' for years. I've only ever read Ackroyd's non-fiction. Must correct that soon.

Maybe instead of a podcast, maybe set up a livestream book talk with your friend and some of your listeners and viewer's can join in with questions and thoughts for specific book or writer.
@SherdsTube2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the suggestion, but even just reading the word "livestream" gives me anxiety, so I doubt very much I'll be doing that ;)

My man, you are doing art right here. The visuals, your voice, all feels like a dream, it’s impressive. I felt so happy to see Thomas Ligotti mentioned, he is my favorite author. I want to be buried (when the moment should come, of course) with his books. His literature is the only thing that I want to take with me to the other side. This is becoming my favorite channel of literature.
@SherdsTube2 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for the kind words. Thomas Ligotti is definitely in a space of his own. One of my favourites, too.

Another wonderful video. For descriptions of cities, I really loved calvinos 'invisible cities', it was mesmeric and unsettling. Quite fitting for this channel I think.

Thank you! Yes, it's about time I got to that book. Have enjoyed a few other Calvino books, but never got around to 'Invisible Cities'.

@@SherdsTube Calvino is one of my favorite writers. 'Invisible Cities' is Calvino at his fabulist best (though I like 'Baron in the Trees' better).

I don't know if it was indeed me that turned you on to New Juche, but I recommended him to you in the early days of the podcast. Either way, delighted to hear that you enjoy the likes of him, Justin Isis, etc.

I find this channel to be so interesting. You have really found a way of communicating, discovering and discussing literature in a way that both combines research with artistic nuance and creativity! Talking about art very personal and therefore creative!
@SherdsTube2 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for saying so. Means a lot to hear that. I make this stuff in the belief that commentary/criticism can also be aesthetically driven. The slightly pretentious term I had in mind before starting the channel was 'ambient criticism'. Hope I'm pushing towards it in some small way.
@kasianfranmitja52982 жыл бұрын
@@SherdsTube It REALLY comes out it that way. Especially with the video edit too. I think alot of book-tubers (even if i really like what they are saying) sort of ignore the possibilities that the video format can provide. In your case however, close to everything (if not everything) seems to have been taken account for.

Thank you, Carl. You're very kind! I really hope to get better at realising the potential of the form as I go on.

Fantastic, as always. I'm so glad to hear you praise Brendan Connell. Many years ago, I co-authored a story with Brendan, one which I am particularly proud of. As a coincidence(?) I just finished reading and reviewing his collection Heqet at my blog.
@SherdsTube2 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much. Ah yes! I've just realised - was it 'The Search for Savino'? Great story! Post a link to your review here of 'Heqet' here, if you like?

@@SherdsTube You are correct. Writing "Savino" with Brendan was one of the more memorable writing experiences for me. I don't collaborate often, but the few times I have , they've been great experiences, with this one at the top of the list! My (rather pithy if I'm being honest) review of 'Heqet' can be found here: forrestaguirre.blogspot.com/2022/06/heqet.html

When I try to co nvince my friends to read Brendan Connell I give them a copy of The Translation of Father Toturo and say [SPOILER ALERT?] "Hannibal Lecter becomes the Pope". You're videos are not too long, but they are rich and dense and I think I would become motion sick from having consumed such a rich meal. Your videos leave us wanting more and guarantee return-viewers. Thankyou for sharing your original and thought-provoking videos.

Thanks for these enormously kind words! Great to hear from another Connell fan. I've picked up everything I can recently, and I'm working my way through it all at the moment. Haven't yet picked up 'The Translation of Father Torturo', though. I will very soon!
