Many of your questions were answered!
This one was quite a fun one to make actually, hope you enjoy it.
What difficulties did you encounter while learning Russian?
What shocked or surprised you about the Russian mentality?
What can the British learn from the Russians and vice versa?
How did you survive your first winter in Russia?

The thing about Russian honesty and directness ... It helps a lot with knowing yourself. No western ambiguity. Helps with mental health, you are what you are, no need to confuse or second-guess to drive yourself crazy, less insecurity too. Keeps you grounded and less likely to be fooled or propagandized.

The trick for your problem with queing can often be solved by being proactive. The question you should be asking people is not "who is next", but "who is last to that office" Then you reply to the last person "I am after you". That way you don't need to follow entire line, just watch one person. Cheers

@@UngluedBrit For more confidence - ask the person, behind whom you took the queue, - Who is next in line in front of him - then you'll need to follow 2 people, but will have much guarantee, that you shall not get lost.

Being a Russian who has lived in the West for many years, I'm still very much confused every time random people ask me he how am I doing. It just feels so weird giving them an autopilot answer 😆 Also, happy to hear you liked the datcha concept!

Just got this video recommended and didn't expect it to be that entertaining because i'm not a fan of such format, but it turned out to be a very funny and interesting video, you are a very humorous guy. I don't know how long have you been here and where do you live, but want to say welcome anyway, i hope your experience here will only get better. Greetings from Podmoskovie (Moscow region)

In fact, in order to sell something from your farm en masse or supply it to grocery chains, you need licenses and a lot of all sorts of veterinary things. And in small volumes, this is not necessary, but in case of any problems, all responsibility falls on the seller, the seller must inform the buyer of all information about the product and how to obtain it, and the buyer himself decides whether he agrees to it.

That "directness" comes from people's diversity and urgency of so many situations. There are certain "unwritten" limits people nearly never cross (in order not to be/seem hostile or offensive, in case they do not want that), but within those limits there's a big variety of people's humors and ways. It's the matter of territory and selection. Anywhere in Europe, for centuries actually millenia, a duke burped some decree in the evening, and next morning they've been cutting off the heads of everyone who didn't fit, nowhere to run, nowhere to hide. Then these very much 'vetted-in-this-way' crowd settled in North America. Whatever much they vet, there still appear "varieties" among the people due to individual brain-morphology mutability, yet they kept "trimming" it on time, due to the same density of population and the speed/quality of decrees' enforcement. The share of "diversity" was and is quite low, yet still there of course. It was otherwise in Russia. Thus, this great variety within quite homogenous people (they are trying to achieve in the West through importing total aliens, unnatural extremes never do well together, it's the matter of moderation).

It would seem to me that this is also another reason why we are where we are, because Russia works well as a civilisation and her inhabitants can all drive toward a common purpose and goal, in America and the entire west is rampant individualism and they're now seeing the fruits of the tree that they've grown for themselves. Bitterness and scarcity are the fruits in which this tree bares, however, rather than amend their own ways they seek for the world to have such trees just like theirs.

To be fair. I have never worn my shoes inside the house. Or anyones house. We have these things called slippers if you wish to wear them. Or wear socks to keep your feet warm. But I agree with everything else you have said. I'd even say that when you get home in Russia. You need to take a shower and change into different clothes before you sit down on the sofa. 100% agree with queuing.

Well, it seemed like common sense to me, but it seems to be absolute law in Russia, usually when I enter someone's house in the UK I get "Nah we've got Dogs! Keep them on don't worry!", just take them off anyway because it's just strange and uncomfortable.

@UngluedBrit Yeah, very different. But like you say. It's a nice practice. I remember the first time I visited my girlfriend in Russia. We got to her apartment, and I went to sit on the sofa. She yelled at me, saying I needed clean clothes to sit in the sofa. I am always a very clean person. But now I take about 5 showers a day in Russia 😅

One Soviet journalist wrote a whole chapter in his UK book ( Всеволод Овчинников "Корни дуба") about a British penchant for queueing. As I Russian I dont like standing straight in order in a queue, it feels very forced like in the army.
