wow~ doing a masters in Korea! Since you are a German academic I have a question for you. Do you feel like Germany has suffered or is still suffering from the re-unification of the East and the West? Is the aftermath of the re-unification still linger in the society and in the people's mind, economically and politics wise? I heard there are lots of racist in the East part of Germany. I always wondered what kind of life Koreans would face if we ever re-unite with the North in the future. Thanks.

Hi Emmy, thank you for your informative video! May I know what other activities (clubs, cultural events, or academic workshops) you had at AKS besides taking classes? And did you get to meet professors from other departments often? Thank you !
@emmyemsvlogs7 ай бұрын
Hello! ☺️ There’s no clubs and not many cultural events happening at AKS. But we have many chances to go on field trips or one day trips for different cultural experiences, some of them you can see in my vlogs! For your second question, I personally didn’t really meet any other professors, but I know there are some classes in English offered by one or two other departments and if you speak Korean well you can also take or audit one of the classes taught in Korean! I think it’s possible to meet other professors if you put some effort into it! :)

Thank you for this video.❤ I am very interested in Korean studies research but I am not sure about applying, Does It need to have a hard research skill or having a good publications before apply in AKS?
@emmyemsvlogs5 ай бұрын
I think AKS might be the right place for you! If you're applying for the masters degree you don't need more research skills than what you learned during your bachelors degree. It is not necessary to have any publications to apply for the masters degree, but I am not sure whether it differs for the PHD-program, so you would have to check that in the application information material if you want to apply to do a PHD (:

Thanks for this video! Emmy, I’m from Brazil and I will try in this spring applications. My doubts is, do we need to have money to survive one year in Korea? If we get the scholarship we still need to presentation the money on our bank account?
@emmyemsvlogs Жыл бұрын
Good luck for your application!! 🤞🏼And unfortunately yes, even if you receive the scholarship you need to prove that you have enough money on your bank account. I applied for German student support and worked full-time for one semester before coming here to be able to do so. I really hope you can find a way! ☺️🤍

I have all documents ready for apply, but not sure about recommender. I am from science background. Whose recommendation should I include?
@emmyemsvlogs3 ай бұрын
You mean the person who writes the recommendation letter, right? For me the professor who supervised my bachelor thesis wrote it. I think it’s best if you just ask one of the professors you worked with before!

This video is very informative. Is AKS right for art students who are just beginner in research but want to experience and study korean culture and music?
@emmyemsvlogs9 ай бұрын
Yes, if you already have a bachelors degree, you can apply for the masters degree at AKS. The major “Korean Culture and Society” is taught in English and will give you the opportunity to learn about Korean culture. Regarding music, AKS has a music major, but it’s taught completely in Korean. So if you’re looking for a place to study about Korean music in English, AKS might not be the right place. But for studying about culture and for experiencing cultural activities it is the right place :)

Hello!😊 I have a question. If you don’t receive the scholarship the first semester, what are the chances that you can get it in the second semester? What is the evaluation criteria? Based on your grades after the first semester? Thank you😌
@emmyemsvlogs7 ай бұрын
Hello! ☺️ Yes, the evaluation criteria for receiving the scholarship in the second semester is your performance in the first semester. The possibility of receiving it always varies, depending on how many free places they have and how many students apply for it! But I personally think the possibility is relatively high to receive it :)

Hello, I have a question 😊 You mention that they asked about your research topic in the interview. What things did you talk about for this part? And did they ask three questions in the interview or were there more?
@emmyemsvlogs Жыл бұрын
Hello! ☺️ Regarding the research topic: They had me shortly explain what I want to do research on and asked some follow up questions, for example why this topic and they were a bit worried since they don't have a professor who is specialized in my topic, so they talked about that as well. Other than that, they actually don't ask that many questions. The interview is pretty short and I would say most questions they ask are follow up questions to the conversation. Just be ready to talk about your research field, why you want to study in Korea and why you want to study at the AKS. They might also ask about former experiences in Korea and how you learned Korean. And be sure to look up their professors on their website and think about with which professor you'd like to work. Good luck for the interview! 🍀

Hello I have a Q., as you said in the video, we have to write a research plan by choosing a research topic, like I am applying for Korean Cultural Studies and I have to choose a topic from it and write it which I want to study further. I am right.
@emmyemsvlogs Жыл бұрын
Yes, you're right! You should choose a topic you're interested it. If you don't have a specific topic yet, just go with the general direction. For example "Mental Health in Korea". You can still narrow it down during your studies. Write why this topic is interesting for you and why the research would be beneficial to the Korean Studies. Review any research that other scholars already have done on it (articles, books, studies etc.) and if you have already done some research on this topic, describe that as well. If there's already a lot of existing research on the topic, try to point out why you think there should still be more research done. In connection with you research plan also go to the school's website and check which one of the professors might be suitable to work with you on the research. They will surely ask you about this if you get invited for an interview! And after all, don't worry too much about your research topic, it's okay to still change your mind while you're studying here. Just give them an idea of what you're interested in and what background knowledge you already have. Good luck! ☺️🍀
