I do really admire Catherine. She is the stuff Catholic saints are made of. As far as we know. It's hard to be considered as a mere breeder when she was so cultured, courageous and bright. I am glad that she was loved by her English subjects at least.

I'm glad someone commented that HENRY was Henry's soul mate. That game "who are the 6 people throughout history that you'd invite to a dinner party"? I always say Henry VIII so I could hear what he had to say about his reign. He couldn't behead me or burn me at the stake, so I'd happily ask him things we'd all like to know.

He could also easily lie. He could also choose not to answer because I imagine he wouldn't like being questioned like that. Hard to say.

Despite Henry VIII's tyrannical side, I think there was another side to him that was very dazzling as a King. He united the country and set it on the World Stage. I don't think he was the truly awesome King that say Louis XIV was, but he was a real Renaissance Prince, he was a Soldier, a Scholar, he composed and played music, he spoke several languages. He jousted, he was witty and charismatic. When he was young very handsome and fashionable. I think we always remember his "fat Elvis" period when he was a blue beard, beheading his wives. They say Catherine was very small, and petite under 5 foot, and considered a real beauty, and Henry at over 6 foot tall, must have look very masculine, next to his tiny pretty wife when they first married.

I think he started out as a Renaissance prince but sadly declined into a tyrant.

We know that Princess Catherine and the Tudors were related through John of Gaunt's marriage. Have you ever noticed how MUCH Arthur & Catherine's portraits look alike?
@dragoninwinterfell5213 Жыл бұрын
I love that so many want to come up with reasons why Arthur and Catherine's marriage wasn't consummated. At the time, it was believed that it was consummated. The idea that it wasn't was only played around with to smooth the way for Catherine/Henry's marriage and even then, the papal dispensation took the Arthur/Catherine consummation into account. And of course, her desire to remain queen played into her insistence that she didn't consummate her first marriage decades later. But this is the first time I have heard that Arthur's sexual orientation played into it. Usually, people will try to say that Arthur was sickly, but since that has been debunked, I guess a new excuse has to be made.
@dragoninwinterfell5213 Жыл бұрын
@garyallen8824 I agree. There's more evidence than that too. I think people just want to believe that it wasn't consummated so that Catherine wouldn't be lying during the Great Matter. Given the stereotypes the wives are shoved into, there's no room for humanity. But the evidence shows that Catherine was human, not a flawless Saint who would never tell a lie.
@cplmpcocptcl6306 Жыл бұрын
I find peoples view on whether or not it was consummated more to do with the person themselves. IE if THEY would of done it or not.
@dragoninwinterfell5213 Жыл бұрын
@@cplmpcocptcl6306 you're wrong as far as I'm concerned. I go off of the historical evidence.
@cplmpcocptcl6306 Жыл бұрын
@@dragoninwinterfell5213 There is no actual evidence. There is alleged here-say and sworn testimony. At that time people were very religious, the Queen even more so. I do not believe she would of risked her immortal Soul for anything. I mean anything. Besides the fact it didn’t make any difference anyway. I’m unsure why people focus on this.🤷♀️ The dispensation covered this. For Henry8 to claim he was childless was ludicrous. And the Bible states “do not lay your brothers WIFE”. Also states to take your brothers WIDOW. He apparently was quite confused by those words. (Childless, wife, widow)😉

There are a lot of articles speculating that Henry VIII might have been affected by Kell antigen. Out of 11-13 pregnancies only 4 children survived birth (if you include Henry Fitzroy), which is a very low percentage to have survived.
@elizabethmcleod246 Жыл бұрын
I agree there was a serological based issue which caused so many babies of his and his partners’ to die.

As a few of his kids died after being born I seriously doubt the kell factor. However, it was something with the King.

I didn't have "monetize" switched on for the live Q&A but I do have to monetize the replay as I really do need some income from my channel. I subscribe to KZbin Premium and love that - I can support my favourite channels without the ads. I think KZbin makes the ads personal to you, so each person viewing gets a very different experience, and sometimes there are lots and other times not so many.

Unfortunately I was unable to attend :( If you happen to see this, I've wondered for quite a while where the claim that Henry and Catherine were not intimate after 1524 comes from. Is this speculation regarding her reproductive incapacity (due to age) or are there primary sources reporting such a thing?
